Eyes on Me is in need of Chid mentors for our Houston Communities. We offer mentorship programs for kids who need a big brother or sister to help guide them with love. Our boy's program is called Star Players, and our girl's program is called Ignite. If monitoring and working with kids is one of your passion, join the programs and become a volunteer.

Hospice volunteers provide a variety of direct and indirect services to patients and their families. Visits to provide companionship, caregiver relief, errands, music therapy, pet therapy, and other services are examples of direct services. Phone calls, pen-pals, and special projects like blanket crafting are examples of indirect services. Volunteers can also get involved with administrative support by assisting in the office. Participate in events at assisted living such as bingo or karaoke. Attend fairs to recruit volunteers at campuses. Hand out flyers to the community to recruit volunteers.

What hospice volunteer does is determined by their abilities and interests.

Volunteers are needed for our See to Succeed initiative beginning the week of October 21, 2024. Through this program, we provide complete eye exams and eyewear at no cost to children in need. We need volunteers who can serve at least one day and will be glad to make a difference in children's lives!

Background on See to Succeed:

The Houston Health Department (HHD) has partnered with the University of Houston, San Jacinto College, Kids Vision for Life (The Essilor Foundation), and the Berkley Eye Center to provide free vision exams and eyewear to children and youth in need.

These vision clinics are held at our 190 Heights Blvd location. Each day we are hoping to serve between 100-150 children.  We need volunteers to help guide and escort the children through the clinic and ensure each child is safe and receives services.

Project Saving Smiles reduces the prevalence of tooth decay in underserved children and remove barriers to learning.

This is accomplished by providing dental screenings, dental sealants, fluoride varnish, and oral health education free of charge targeting Houston’s at-risk 2nd graders who are enrolled in schools with 50% or more students on the Free and Reduced Lunch Program.

The 2001 Dental Needs Assessment in Harris County revealed 68% of 2nd graders had untreated decay. It is known that children who suffer from oral health problems cannot learn well and miss days from school. According to the 2000 Surgeon General’s Report, more than 51 million school hours are lost each year due to dental-related illness. Additionally, children who experience pain from tooth problems are likely to be distracted and unable to concentrate on their schoolwork.

Since its inception, Project Saving Smiles has provided dental screening to 98,800 students and applied 217,878 sealants.  The Project also provides oral health education free of charge to pre-k, second grade, middle school and high school students enrolled in a free or reduced lunch program across Houston.

AccentCare Hospice is piloting a Virtual Reality Experience Program for hospice patients. Virtual Reality Experience Volunteers will be trained to work alongside the Hospice Social Worker to bring provided virtual reality equipment into the patient's home and engage them with experiences they would never have access to normally. Virtual Reality Experiences include touring cities around the world, joining deep sea divers, exploring nature preserves and more!

Our founder, Traci Johnston, spent nearly two decades working as a special education teacher in our community. She saw the lack of opportunities available to her students following high school and the anxiety it caused her and their families. With the help of one of her former students, she created an educational and exciting day program in Deer Park, Next Step Transition Center. As the day program grew, so did the feeling she could do more. She felt the calling to create a program where young adults could continue to grow in their independence and skills. S.T.E.P.S. provides vocational, independent living, and social skills through hands-on experience.

The continued increase of individuals with intellectual, physical, and emotional disabilities has created an even greater need for programs for these individuals following high school. Texas has one of the highest populations of individuals with disabilities at 12.9%, most of whom live in Houston and the surrounding gulf coast region. Our local community, Deer Park, comprises 7.9% of individuals with disabilities, while the surrounding communities of Pasadena and La Porte have 8.1% and 11.6%, respectively. With your support, our program can grow and provide additional opportunities to adults in our community.

Our Women's Ministry meets on Monday evenings for a time of fellowship and fun activities. 

Join the group on a second Monday of the month to lead them in a fun fitness activity from 7:00-8:00pm.

The Mentoring Monitor will work with our 20 mentor pairs by checking in once a month via phone/text/email to ensure that all parties are satisfied or if there are any challenges. The position also includes sending a monthly newsletter and setting up a service project activity each semester. When a new volunteer signs up to mentor, we have an orientation that is virtually led by the Mentoring Monitor. We provide a cell phone for this role.

The skills required are the ability to communicate professionally, have consistency in their work, and be comfortable using google docs as this is how we store our information for this role. A person who has a background in working with teens is a plus but is not required.

The position is 75% virtual. We are located in Dickinson off of 517 as well as in Dickinson HS. It is extremely flexible and can offer much in how a non-profit functions as well as working with better understanding how mentorship is powerful! 5 hours per week is what we need but if the potential intern would like other areas to develop, I am open to offering more hours.

We work with homeless  between young adults the ages of 18-30. We provide clothing, a home cooked meal, resources to the community and their needs at the time.

As a Resume reader, you will be shared high school and college students' resumes via google docs or word docs to review and provide feedback. We will ask you to focus on format, style, vocabulary, grammar, and syntax of the resume. The time commitment is 30 minutes/month. 

As a Community Outreach Volunteer, you will help coordinate (in conjunction with staff) outreach events and activities including; attending fairs and community events, tabling booths, networking meetings and more to help connect the community with Wesley's services for both external and internal community outreach purposes to communicate the mission and purpose of the organization.

Location and Time Commitment: Our Wesley office is located in Near Northside of Houston. Opportunities are flexible and can fit around your routine. Time commitment and location is flexible and dependent upon outreach efforts and events.

Skills, Abilities, Knowledge:  

Revival Sport (revivalsport.org) serves the refugee and immigrant communities of Houston, TX. We are looking for a few tutors to assist us in providing academic support to students who are struggling.

We specifically need tutors for:

-high school classes like Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, and Chemistry

-All grades English

If you are skilled in this subject matter and passionate about empowering local youth, please reach out to us! Tutoring would be one evening per week, or every other week depending on availability.

If you are a college student, there is also potential for applying for a paid internship. Please contact us for more information.

WINGS Ministries serves at-risk women in lock-down and rehab facilities, teaching job-readiness and life skills. We offer the opportunity for participants to fill out a Résumé Worksheet, and have a volunteer create a professional Résumé. As part of our clients’ journey to stability, we offer vocational training and counseling to help them establish financial and vocational wellness. We are looking for a computer savvy volunteer who can teach a basic computer skills course. Purpose: This position supports the Regional Development/Fundraising department. Assist with thanking our donors through acknowledgement letters, thank you phone calls, and other stewardship materials

Key Responsibilities: 

This is a hybrid volunteer opportunity with a mixture of virtual and in person activities. 

We would like to find a volunteer who would be interested in coming once a week to lead a service for our residents. Our volunteers tell us working at our Shop is meaningful and rewarding, because they know with each item sold, all proceeds go into directly helping the women of our Home. We are open Monday through Saturday from 10am until 4pm. Volunteer hours can be flexible, but we do ask that you make an on-going commitment.

Hello, Galveston County!

We need your help, delivering delivering lunch meals and brief, friendly visit to homebound seniors, throughout Galveston County, including both mainland and the island. We have needs in areas, including Bolivar Peninsula, Bacliff, Santa Fe, Texas City, Dickinson, San Leon, League City, La Marque and Friendswood. We are also looking for additional Hubs/Sites, so please let us know if your faith community, business, civic group, etc. is open to learning about what it means to be a Meals on Wheels Site. :-) 

Responding to this need will register you, as an individual, for becoming a Meals on Wheels Delivery Volunteer. After completion of your New Volunteer Training, we can share with you where we most need volunteer support and you can choose your delivery area, from those needs. All of the seniors on any MOW route live close to one another and a volunteer route typically delivers to 12-15 homes, between 10:00 AM and 12 noon, on your assigned weekday. Our MOW Galveston County Program utilizes volunteer delivery support Monday-Thursday, weekly. Delivering should take approximately 90 minutes, including loading your car and delivery time. It's a great way to spend your lunch break! 

How do I sign up? Two steps: 

Kiddos are welcome to tag along on meal deliveries, but do not need to register. The Driver must be 18 years of age or older. You are invited to bring along a Delivery Buddy, so long as all adults in the vehicle complete their volunteer registration and training. 

The American Red Cross Disaster Mental Health responder provides disaster mental health services to individuals and families who have been impacted by a disaster.

The Family Hope Center is a child-centered, family-focused place where families go to find hope, support and empowerment in their community to reach their fullest God-given potential. The key to the Family Hope Center's success is found in combining effective programs and passionate people to help families that are experiencing poverty, family issues and a lack of services.

A part of our Aldine Family Hope Center is a twice a week food pantry (Tuesday and Thursday). At this time the pantry is open to anyone that is in need. As a volunteer you will be helping to stock the pantry, fill the donation boxes, and meet with the families. There will always be a staff member present as well.

Our North Houston Area patients need YOU! Become a patient companion volunteer providing companionship, active listening, reading or other activities with our North Houston area hospice patients. This is a very rewarding opportunity to support the patient and their family at this juncture of their life journey.

Requirements; A commitment to visit assigned patient(s) a minimum of 2-4 times per month. You choose the number of patients you are able to take on and the location of those patients.

Orientation & Training provided at no charge to the volunteer.

We are looking for volunteers who can provide support when patients and families need it most. Services include, visiting to offer companionship, socialization, assistance with enjoyable activities and pet therapy, helping with errands and providing a break for caregivers. Items are donated by members of the public, who drop them off at our facility's donation center. In faith and partnership with the community, Cypress Assistance Ministries (CAM) turns stumbling blocks into stepping stones by making resources available to individuals and families facing adversity, providing a helping hand as they regain self-sufficiency.

CAM needs volunteers to help us sort and prepare clothing items for sale in our resale store. Volunteers will take bags of donated clothing items that have been donated by members of the public. Items will then be sorted out by type, with unusable items being recycled.

We need detail oriented people who are able to look at items carefully to determine their quality, with some basic familiarity with brands and labels.

You will test donated electronics to ensure they are in working condition to sell in our resale shop, Angel's Attic.

CAM's Donation Center needs volunteers to clean and sort toys. If you have an eye for detail, and prefer a sedentary role, this may be a good option for you. 

You will sort and fold linens in preparation for resale in our store, Angel's Attic. This is a great opportunity for you are detail oriented and organized!
