The Business Development Manager will provide cross-cutting coordination and support for the development of EEGS program initiatives and business development. You will work closely with the Grant and FPS team to develop and support strategic initiatives under the direction of the Project Manager and Founder. You will work to build our donor, partnership, and sponsorship pool and devise a plan to connect with organizations that align with our organization. Services include financial assistance, immigration legal services, post-release services, case management, employment education, and more. The Outreach Team @ U.S.VETS - Houston needs your help. Each and every day, our team canvasses the Greater Houston community to educate homeless veterans on our services and programs and encourage veterans to get off the streets and begin the process of regaining a healthy quality of life through our program. Alzheimer's Association Support Group facilitators create a safe, open environment where people share their feelings, thoughts and experiences in a combined effort to better cope with and manage the shared problems of dementia. This support group will be meeting virtually for the time being.

After orientation and training, you will be joining an experienced facilitator of an ongoing group that meets the 3rd Wednesday, 2pm - 3pm in Clear Lake.

Qualifications:

· Ability to be empathetic and separate personal needs from group needs.

· Strong listening and effective communication skills.

· Ability to redirect and facilitate discussion as well as fulfill the duties and responsibilities as described in the Facilitator Agreement.

· Commitment to promote the mission and services of the Association and willingness to act as an extension of the Association.

· Experience with dementia as a family member or health care professional preferred but not mandatory.

Commitment Expected:

· Support Group Facilitators commit to a 1-year term meeting monthly.

· Orientation includes: online general volunteer orientation (1 hour) + program volunteer orientation (1 hour) + self-study or in-person role training with staff partner (~4 hours). Background checks are required as part of the volunteer selection process.

The foot traffic in our building is constant. Our Lobby Greeter will station at the front reception to greet guests. Small project tasks may be asked of this person. Bloom leads adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to a lifetime of community-driven health and wellness. We offer in-person classes at partnership locations and virtual classes through our fitness app. Classes include strength, dance, yoga, Pilates, indoor cycle, and chair fitness. Bloom is always looking for volunteers to teach or help facilitate a class.  

Please note that to facilitate a class (in partnership with a live or virtual coach), no fitness instruction experience is needed. Bloom provides the training. The only requirement to enjoy this position are a desire to commit to the athletes over time. 

To teach a yoga or Pilates class, volunteers must be certified. To teach any other class, fitness experience is preferred.

The Information Desks may well be the first contact a patient, his family or visitor have with Baylor St. Luke's  Medical Center Hospital, the Texas Heart Institute.  As such, the role of the volunteer is very vital in representing these institutions.  Please, above all, be patient and kind while serving at one of these desks. Remember it is possible that the person you are dealing with may never have been in a hospital before.  Keep in mind also that many people coming to the Information Desk could be very worried about themselves or a member of their family so you must be very polite, understanding and helpful. 

 To be able to escort or direct a patient or visitor to a certain area one has to know where it is.  For this reason all information volunteers must receive orientation and take a tour of the hospitals to become familiar with the many different areas.  You will be informed of any changes made in an area location as soon as possible.

McGovern Centennial Gardens, a paradise for garden lovers, offers many opportunities for volunteers in the various horticultural-themed gardens. To commemorate Hermann Park’s centennial in 2014, Hermann Park Conservancy transformed the former Houston Garden Center site into the eight-acre McGovern Centennial Gardens. The Gardens were custom-made for Hermann Park and add a new dimension to Houston’s garden attractions. Visitors can explore a variety of themed garden rooms arranged situated along a spacious central lawn, the Centennial Green, and are home to more than 490 new trees of over 50 species, 760 hedge shrubs, 55,000 perennial bulbs, 650 azaleas and 4.5 acres of grass. They include the Arid Garden, the Rose Garden, the Celebration Garden, and the Woodland Garden, and an educational Family Garden, which produces seasonal vegetables, herbs and fruit trees. The main entry into the Gardens is through the Cherie Flores Garden Pavilion, which was designed by Peter Bohlin, architect of Apple stores worldwide.

The age range from newborn to 18.  I know sometimes it is hard to buy for teens so gift cards are welcome too.  Gift cards for fast food, Walmart, Target , Amazon are great examples. With the number of donations we received, the closet can get disorganized quickly. Because of this, we are looking for volunteers to help sort and organize our donation closet so the families we serve can have a safe and easy time finding the items they need to acclimate in Houston.

As a Tour Guide, you will share the history of the structures in Sam Houston Park with visitors from around the world by providing tours of the historic structures. Tour Guide training prepares you to discuss Houston and Texas history as well as the decorative arts and lifestyles represented in the structures.

This position is similar to the tour guide position, except that your main focus will be on giving tours to school groups. This position is perfect for people who work with children often, especially in an educational setting. Children’s Educators do not need to know all the houses as there are specific ones included in our curriculum for different age groups. We mostly handle kids from kindergarten to eighth grade. Children’s educators are also asked to help with girl and boy scout badge workshops, which allow for more one on one time with children and more activity oriented learning.  Background check required.

Are you tech-savvy and like to help behind the scenes for live media events? If you are a pro at optimizing the use of your cell phone apps, have social media experience, and know traditional media, then we could use your talents here! Behind-the-scenes duties include setting up the set, running errands, breaking down the set, meeting guests, and assisting a show host before, during, and after a show. All our events are in Downtown Houston, and our museum has free parking.

These volunteers get to work hands-on with real historic artifacts. Bring Houston’s history alive for people who cannot personally visit the park. Outreach programs include children’s trunk shows and presentations about local history, architecture, customs, and people. We also have an educational booth program that brings booths on different aspects of Houston history to events at other organizations.

Ever wonder where those Red Barrel donations go – they go to your local food pantry!

Volunteers are needed to pick up Red Barrel food donations from two nearby grocery stores in the Cypress area and deliver donations to the Cy-Fair Helping Hands Community Food Pantry at 9204 Emmott Road on a Monday or Thursday morning between the hours of 9:00 am – 12:30 pm. Volunteers must be over 18, have a large vehicle (e.g., pick-up truck, van or SUV) and car insurance. Adopt A Cat is a non-profit, no-kill cat shelter that cares for the abandoned and relinquished cats of the Greater Houston Area.

Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and foster homeless felines until safe, caring, and permanent homes are found for them.

We are a grassroots organization whose success and growth is a result of caring individuals working together in their communities to rescue cats.

We need volunteers who can help with the day-to-day direct care of the cats and the shelter, including things such as:

Anyone interested must be comfortable being around and handling cats, as many of our cats are outside of cages and are allowed to freely roam the shelter.

At Adopt A Cat, we know that it takes more than just a roof over a cats head to consider them saved and ready for a new home.

Many of our cats were previously strays, or have just left their homes for an extended period of time for what is likely the first time in their lives.

We want all of our residents to receive love, comfort, and specialized time that works with their comfort level. Whether that means lap time with lots of pets, playing with wand toys from a distance, or even just staying safely inside of their cage while listening to someone talk about their day, every cat can start or continue the socialization process somewhere.

We are looking for volunteers who are comfortable with being around and handling cats who can come in to the shelter and spend time with all of our kitties to help them flourish into the happy and healthy cats we know that they can be. This will also help them to get ready for adoption and entering their new homes.

(We'll absolutely understand if there is some bribing with treats and catnip that occurs during the process.)

One of the most important aspects of the shelter is building up and maintaining the health of our cats, and that is accomplished in part by visits to the vet.

Unfortunately, our shelter vehicle has been of service to us for many, many years now and the toll of that is starting to show itself.

Between the state of our car, the general (and sometimes unexpectedly intense) busyness that comes from the average day, and understaffing, we are relying largely on volunteers to help us get the cats to and from their vet appointments in a timely manner.

Outside of assisting in our cats overcoming existing and/or sudden health issues, you will also be helping them get ready to go to their new forever homes, as every cat that we adopt out is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, combo tested, flea treated, dewormed, and receives any other essential medical care that is necessary to get them on the path to recovery.

TERJA hosts monthly workshops in the Houston community focused on Menstrual Health for girls and young women. These workshops address crucial topics, including menstrual health equity, period poverty, sustainable solutions, and breaking the silence, shame, and stigma associated with menstruation. Participants watch videos and listen to stories from girls and young women in Kenya who are combating period poverty by creating reusable sanitary pads using local materials. The workshops include discussions on TERJA’s reusable sanitary pads, which are made from organic, biodegradable materials, and explore how sustainable, eco-friendly solutions can help alleviate period poverty. A local tailor will demonstrate how to create reusable pads and underwear using both sewing machines and traditional hand sewing techniques. Following the demonstration, attendees participate in hands-on activities, where they create their own reusable pads, underwear, and bags, with ongoing support provided. We are seeking volunteers to serve as facilitators during these workshops.

Volunteers will be required to attend an orientation and training session before the first workshop. Your involvement will be instrumental in empowering girls and young women through education and practical skills.

We provide free soccer practice at various local schools in Alief ISD Monday-Thursday 5:00-6:30pm. As a volunteer, you would be working with the head coach to follow the provided practice curriculum. The curriculum guides you through warm ups, soccer technique, drills, and activities. The unique thing about our program is that all of our soccer sessions are based around a Bible story and life value. Position: Volunteer Cooking Instructor

Schedule: Every Thursday, 9 AM - 3 PM

Role Overview:

Teaching: Lead simple cooking lessons for approximately 30 students, with the option to break them into smaller groups throughout the day.

Planning: Develop engaging and budget-friendly meal ideas.

Shopping: Calculate the necessary supplies for our students to shop for in advance.

Kitchen Use: Utilize our fully equipped kitchen to prepare and teach the cooking lessons.

Requirements:

Commitment: Must be available every Thursday from 9 AM to 3 PM.

Skills: Strong organizational skills and ability to stay within a budget. Proficiency with calculations is essential.

Experience: Experience working with special needs is a plus but not required. Patience and a positive attitude are crucial.

Position: Volunteer Vocational/Life Skills Instructor

Location: Friends of Down Syndrome, 8425 West Road Houston, Tx 77064

Schedule: Every Tuesday, 9 AM - 3 PM

Role Overview:

Curriculum Development: Plan and design engaging vocational and life skills curriculum tailored to the needs of our students.

Teaching: Lead a group of approximately 20-25 students, with the option to break them into smaller groups for more personalized instruction.

Supplies: Assist in obtaining donated supplies from various sources to support the training sessions.

Program Management: Introduce new and innovative vocational and life skills ideas to our facility each week.

Requirements:

Commitment: Must be available every Tuesday from 9 AM to 3 PM.

Skills: Strong organizational and planning skills. Ability to develop and implement engaging curriculum and manage classroom activities.

Experience: Experience working with special needs individuals is a plus but not required. Patience and a positive attitude are essential.

Background Check: Ability to pass a background check is required.

Training: Must be able to attend a training session before starting.

Role Overview:

Classroom Support: Accompany a group of students throughout their day, assisting with various classes including Reading, Math, Art, Social Skills, PE, and Music.

Individual Assistance: Help specific students with their daily work and tasks, providing support tailored to their individual needs.

Lunch & Enrichment Assistance: Support students during lunch hour and enrichment hour, ensuring they have a positive and productive experience.

General Assistance: Provide help wherever needed throughout the day to ensure smooth operation and support for both students and teachers.

Requirements:

Commitment: Must be available for the full academic day 9 am-3 pm, Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Skills: Patience, enthusiasm, and the ability to work well with students. Experience with special needs is a plus but not required.

We work with homeless youths between the ages of 18-30. We provide clothing, a home cooked meal, resources to the community and their needs at the time.

We are looking for volunteers to help out in the kitchen preparing the meal, cleaning dishes, greeting our youths, helping our youths in the clothing room, visiting with them at the table, No Experience is needed to volunteer with our wonderful team and our youths.

Our mission is to provide a safe, affirming environment for youth and young adults experiencing homelessness regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, disability, and/or other identities. We firmly believe in meeting our participants where they are, without judgment or expectation, and letting them guide us toward their individual needs.

We are looking for a volunteer to help us set up digital signage on the tv in our lobby. We would like it to show photos and important announcements using an app to update. Volunteer will provide us with options for apps and help us get it set up.

Due to disasters occuring acrosss the country, the American Red Cross Texas Gulf Coast region is looking for volunteers to deploy to our neighboring regions to assist with disaster relief. A Board Member experienced in management of charitable organization.  Ability in public speaking and promoting activities.  Fund raising experience a plus.
