Black United Fund of Texas has a classroom that our non-profit uses for many different educational opportunities. Recently this classroom was used to store furniture and clothing from an old daycare. We want clean out this space so it can be used for its intended purpose again. 

Join us for some good old fashioned cleaning and organization! We’ll be categorizing items for re-purpose, recycling, donation or landfill. Many hands will make light work of this space. We appreciate your time and energy. Volunteers make our work serving and building resilient communities possible.

Airport Volunteer Ambassadors help create a welcoming and positive experience for travelers from around the world. As a volunteer you'll be stationed at the information counter, serving as a friendly knowledgeable resource for the airport travelers. 

Providing directions throughout the airport and information about airport amenities

Assisting passengers with finding appropriate transportation and accommodations

Providing suggestions to sightseeing attractions in the Houston and surrounding area

Facilitating communication between airport tenants, airlines, and passengers

Volunteers are staffing the airport information counters, on occasion volunteers may be assigned to roam in the baggage and security area.

Relieve passengers stress and anxiety by providing a big southern hospitality greeting "WELCOME TO HOUSTON".

Black United Fund of Texas is cohosting an event with TWST4Girls to tech students about conservation, the history of Houston’s Fifth Ward environment and give them hands on experience in gardening principles.

We are looking for volunteers to assist with event set up and event clean up. This will involve setting up tables and chairs, ensuring stations have materials and provide general support to the staff and educators at the event.

The event will start at 10am. If you are wanting to assist with event set up, please arrive by 9am. If you are wanting to assist with event clean up, please arrive by 12pm. We plan for volunteers to contribute for an hour during the set up and an hour during clean up. 

Volunteers are welcome to stay and participate in the event as well if they would like!

Geenius Innovators Inc. is preparing our Downtown Houston warehouse for the next phase of community impact, and this day is focused on organization, structure, and elevating the space that serves thousands of families across our city.

We’ve received a large volume of donated items, and our goal is to transform the warehouse into a clean, efficient, and well-organized distribution hub that supports our Each One Feed One program, which provides food and essential household items to families and partner organizations — while also reducing landfill waste and lowering our carbon footprint.

April is Child Abuse Prevention month, which puts a spotlight on challenges facing child welfare and highlights the importance of our mission here at DePelchin. Every year, DePelchin recognizes victims of child abuse with a display of blue ribbons along our Memorial fence line. This volunteer opportunity offers a chance to support this initiative by assisting in tying blue ribbons on our fence. 

This opportunity will first meet at our Volunteer Services Building, and then we'll walk to the fence line together. Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes to work outdoors, and bring a water bottle.

At the GBF EcoCenter Greenhouse, staff and volunteers cultivate native plants to restore and manage coastal tallgrass prairie across the Galveston Bay region.

Every Thursday and Saturday from 8:00–11:00 AM, volunteers work in the nursery to support one of the most endangered ecosystems in North America. This work helps create habitat for wildlife and strengthens natural flood protection.

Getting There

Your time in the nursery helps grow native plants that restore habitat, support wildlife, and protect communities around Galveston Bay.

Join the staff of Cornerstone Family Resource Center as we distribute healthy food and produce to families in need.  We expect to distribute fresh produce and other items to over 150 families and we NEED YOUR HELP!  This is a drive-through food distribution. The Houston Food Bank will deliver a truckload of items and we need volunteers to:

Cornerstone Family Resource Center (CFRC) is seeking community groups, businesses, churches, schools, and individuals to host a toiletry and cleaning supply drive to support low-income families living at Premier on Woodfair Apartments.

For many residents, everyday essentials like soap, detergent, toilet paper, and cleaning supplies are not covered by SNAP or other assistance programs. These items are often the first to be cut when families are choosing between rent, utilities, food, and medical needs. Your drive helps fill that critical gap and directly supports families’ health, dignity, and housing stability.

CFRC makes it easy to participate:
 - We provide collection boxes
 - We provide a ready-to-use flyer
 - We pick up all donations at the end of the drive

Suggested donation items include:
 - Soap, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant
 - Toilet paper, paper towels
 - Laundry detergent, dish soap
 - All-purpose cleaners, disinfecting wipes
 - Feminine hygiene products

Why this matters:
Access to basic hygiene and cleaning supplies helps families maintain healthy living environments, reduces stress, supports children’s well-being, and promotes stability for households working hard to make ends meet.
Whether you host a one-week or month-long drive, your effort will have an immediate and meaningful impact on families in your community.

Volunteers are needed for setup, registration, traffic control, and to load food/relief items into vehicles as they drive through. The volunteers are needed from 7am-12:30pm. Partial shifts are acceptable.

All minors will need a Minor Waiver. Seven years old is the minimum age for distribution days, anyone 7yrs to 13 years of age must have an adult accompany them  Please complete the Minor Volunteer Waiver for anyone under 18.

Bread of Life. Inc. is located on the campus of St. John's UMC Downtown at 2019 Crawford St., Houston, TX 77002. The distribution takes place behind the church, underneath the Pierce Elevated. Parking for volunteers is available in the parking lot across the street from the church on Gray St., all other parking is metered Mon - Sat until 6pm, (with the exception of Jackson St. where street parking is free).

At our monthly food distributions, volunteers sort, assemble, and distribute grocery items for drive-thru clients. Volunteers may also help by assisting clients with the intake forms.

This is the perfect opportunity for volunteers who can work quickly and carry up to thirty pounds of food.

Our food fairs take place on the fourth Wednesday of each month.

When you arrive, you may park in any space in the lot. Many of our clients will already be lined up around the building. You will find our staff and volunteers carrying supplies from the food pantry located in Suite B-101.

The Afterschool is Cool Youth Expo:  Game Plan for Success brings together middle and high school students from across Harris County for a full day of exploration.  This year's event will be at the University of Houston- Main Campus.  This high energy event helps students develop a Championship Mindset as they learn about future opportunities in education, careers, and the workforce.  

Students will participate in interactive workshops, hear from professionals during a kickoff panel, and connect with colleges, career programs, and community organizations in the Opportunity Arena. The goal is to help young people explore their interests, understand their options after high school, and begin building their personal Game Plan for Success.

Volunteers play an important role in helping the day run smoothly by supporting student check-in, guiding groups between sessions, assisting presenters and exhibitors, and helping create a welcoming and engaging environment for students. This is a great opportunity to encourage and inspire the next generation as they prepare for their futures.

Help Fuel the Cleanup Crew

Trash Bash® is the largest single-day waterway cleanup in Texas, and GBF proudly hosts the Bay Area Park site. With nearly 500 participants joining us from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM, Event Support Volunteers play a key role in getting the day off to a smooth start.

As a Lunch Support Volunteer, you will work alongside the GBF staff in several ways to help make the lunch at our event a success! You will help with setting up the lunch area, food prep, serving food to participants, and tearing down the lunch area at the end.

By ensuring a smooth and organized start to the event, you directly expand our ability to clean up more waste and increase the impact Trash Bash® has on the health of Galveston Bay.

No experience is necessary. Bring your family and friends! All volunteers will receive a t-shirt and are welcome to join us for lunch at 11:30.

Help us prepare for summer by getting our tents ready prior to sending them out on our summer trips! This involves setting them up, checking for damage, identifying any missing parts, and then breaking them back down and packing them up. It's a simple task that goes quickly with 15 to 20 people. If time allows we will do simple repairs involving gear tape.

We will meet at Bayland Park on Monday, April 20th to kick off National Volunteer Week! Please arrive at round 9:45am in order to begin at 10am. We should be done by 12:30 pm. Please dress comfortably, and bring a refillable water bottle. We will have breakfast, cold drinks, and snacks.

Even the smallest pieces of trash can have a ripple effect on marine life, communities, and future generations. As the second most productive estuary ↗ in the United States, Galveston Bay supports both wildlife and the people who depend on it.

This cleanup is part of the regional Trash Free Gulf initiative ↗, a collaborative effort to reduce marine debris and protect coastal ecosystems across the Gulf.

As a shoreline cleanup volunteer, you and your team will:

The Trash Free Gulf campaign, a program of the Gulf Trust, is presented by H-E-B's Our Texas, Our Future

Our Marine Debris Survey Program is a partnership with National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration to help measure the amount and types of marine debris that wash up on our shoreline.

You will assist staff in conducting this survey by collecting and documenting your findings. Once the survey is complete we will clean up any remanining trash in the area.

Get dirty helping grow the Bay!

The Gessner Center is Galveston Bay Foundation’s new visitor hub in Kemah, TX. It will be home to our aquatic nursery program—where we grow and prepare wetland plants that are critical to restoring habitat, improving water quality, and supporting the long-term health of Galveston Bay.

As an Aquatic Nursery Volunteer, you will assist GBF staff with hands-on plant care.

Depending on the needs of the nursery, may help with watering, weeding, trimming, shifting plants, repotting wetland plants, and removing algae buildup from nursery ponds.

Some workdays may also include planting in our wetland pools and will be communicated in advance.

If you would like to help rotate or retrieve plants from the aquatic pools, you are encouraged to bring tall rubber boots.

Expect to get dirty and muddy!

By caring for nursery plants that will be used in restoration, you directly support healthier wetlands and a healthier Galveston Bay.

No experience is necessary. Staff will show you everythingyou need to know. Be prepared to walk across uneven terrain. Restrooms will be available onsite.

We've recently received a large volume of donated items at our Downtown warehouse, and we need a solid team to help us organize our South Houston space so we can move these items and better serve families and partner nonprofits across Houston.

Help us build the system that helps the city!

We are looking for people to come out and hide for search dogs while they are training. These people need to be willing to come out for at least a few hours and be willing to run, walk, and hide from the dogs in all different types of scenarios. When found by the dog, they should also be willing to play with the dog per the handler's instructions or offer the dog it's treat reward. It is a lot of fun and a unique experience to help these dogs out!

You'll be provided with a location to walk to in order to "hide" from the canines. The canines will then come find the missing person. Of course, you will never actually be missing, but we always need new people to pretend to be missing. We will be enjoying nature, so dress appropriately with closed-toed shoes and comfortable pants. Be sure to bring water, sunscreen, bug spray and maybe a good book or electronic device to keep you busy during the down time. A confirmation email will be sent after sign-up to confirm your volunteer slot. A waiver will be attached. Any participants under 16 years old will need to be accompanied by an adult during their volunteer time.

This community event supports housing initiatives for homeless veterans and individuals in need, and we need helping hands to make the day run smoothly.

BakerRipley's Adult Education program gives our neighbors the skills to succeed in the professional world. Our initiatives help build economic mobility and stability in our community by supporting our neighbors career growth.

We need organized, dependable, and friendly volunteers to welcome in our students. Additionally, volunteers help our office connect students and neighbors to the resources they need in the community, easing the stress of getting help. Volunteers gain experience in essential office skills and are provided letters of recommendation upon request.

This is a long-term position, we are looking for people to commit to at least one shift weekly. Shifts are in the morning (8:30AM - 12:30 PM) or afternoon (1:30AM - 5:30 PM) on Mon, Tue, Wed, and Thur.

The Hobby Airport Emergency Exercise is a planned and controlled simulation of an emergency situation at or near an airport.

The exercise is designed to test how airport personnel and external emergency responders work together during an emergency, such as an aircraft accident, fire, security incident, or medical emergency.

As an Application Advisor, you play a crucial role in helping our students submit outstanding job applications. Using the Application Feedback Form and the guidelines provided, you will review, proofread, and offer detailed suggestions to ensure each application meets the highest standards of professionalism. Volunteers will receive 1-3 applications per session to review, helping clients craft "pristine" applications that set them up for success in their job search.

This volunteer opportunity occurs three times a month, aligning with each JSA class cycle, and is conducted entirely electronically. Applications are sent out on Wednesdays, and reviewed submissions must be emailed back by 8:00 AM the following Wednesday. This one-week turnaround is vital as student training programs operate on a tight schedule. By contributing your time and expertise, you’ll directly impact the confidence and success of our clients as they take their next steps toward meaningful employment.

The Volunteer Prayer Warrior Lead is a spiritually mature leader called to anchor WorkFaith in prayer. This individual will oversee our community of Volunteer Prayer Warriors, ensuring that our clients, staff, and mission are consistently lifted before the Lord. You will not only lead prayer but also build the infrastructure to grow and mentor a team.

Commitment: One Year (Renewable)

Key Responsibilities:

- Team Leadership: Oversee, inspire, and shepherd the Prayer Warrior team, fostering a culture of consistency and spiritual fervor.

- Virtual Gatherings: Host and facilitate weekly or bi-monthly virtual prayer meetings, incorporating Scripture or a short devotional.

- Strategy & Onboarding: Develop and implement a streamlined process for welcoming new Prayer Warriors and a communication strategy (email/text) to keep the team updated on urgent prayer needs.

Represent WorkFaith at College Career Fairs!

You will be there with a WorkFaith employee and help to speak with potential clients, volunteers, or anyone interested in learning more about WorkFaith. You will be helping to spread the mission of WorkFaith to the next generation or anyone attending the college fair.

The Community Engagement Ambassador position strengthens WorkFaith’s presence in the community by helping us build awareness and connect with individuals and potential partner organizations who may benefit from our programs. Community Engagement Ambassadors will represent WorkFaith at resource fairs, outreach events, and in everyday interactions, sharing our mission and introducing people to the opportunities we offer.

By engaging with community members, partners, and local organizations, Community Engagement Ambassadors help expand our reach and support our mission of empowering individuals through faith-based job readiness training. Their involvement ensures consistent visibility for WorkFaith and creates meaningful connections that benefit both our clients and the broader community.

When you sign up, the Volunteer Coordinator will reach out to you to schedule a quick Zoom meeting. After that, you will get in contact with the Partnership Specialist to learn more about the role and events you may go to. When opportunities come up, the Volunteer Coordinator will reach out to you for availability. Ambassadors will be asked to join our Manager of Partnerships, Partnership Specialist, or another WorkFaith staff member, to attend these events.

As a Care Caller, you will:

Engage in warm, supportive follow-up conversations with individuals who have recently completed the WorkFaith program.

Ask thoughtful questions to understand how they’re doing, celebrate their progress, and identify any challenges they may be facing.

Provide encouragement, share helpful resources, and guide graduates toward next steps that align with their goals.

This opportunity allows you to strengthen your communication and listening skills while helping graduates stay connected, motivated, and supported as they pursue employment and long-term stability.

Celebrate Earth Day with us by helping spruce up Woodland Park and Nature Preserve and Freed Art and Nature Park. At the same time, participate in the international event called Nature Challenge by taking photos of wildlife you see in the park. 

We'll collect trash and conduct trail maintenance (cut vines, spread mulch, mark trails).

We will provide gloves, trash grabbers, bags, tools, water, snacks, sunscreen and bug spray. 

We recommend you wear long pants, closed toe shoes that can get dirty and a hat. 

Volunteers conduct interviews with individuals who need identification documents, assisting with paperwork and research throughout the process. MSM covers all associated costs to ensure clients receive the support they need. Bilingual volunteers provide additional guidance for Spanish-speaking individuals, helping them navigate each step with clarity and confidence.

A Handyman provides basic maintenance and repair services to ensure safe, functional working spaces. Responsibilities include handling minor repairs such as painting, replacing lightbulbs, helping maintain clean, comfortable, and well-kept environments, and more.

Tech Support volunteers provide in-office assistance to ensure staff devices and systems operate smoothly and efficiently. Responsibilities include troubleshooting common technical issues, setting up and maintaining equipment, and providing day-to-day support, helping volunteers stay connected and productive.

Volunteers are needed for the Texas Challengers Quiz Tournaments (TCQT) high school Quiz Bowl tournament at Bellaire High School on Saturday, April 18. Most volunteers will serve as moderators and read questions to the students. Moderators will need to complete a quick 10-15 minute training before volunteering. Volunteers can also serve as scorekeepers. Training for scorekeepers takes about 5 minutes. Free pizza will be provided for lunch. Partial shifts are welcome.

Life Empowerment provides education, community, and financial support to help Houstonians move out of poverty through workshops. We empower workshop graduates to secure housing, achieve stability, and build long-term sustainability through targeted programs and strong community partnerships. As a facilitator, volunteers make sure workshops run smoothly throughout the program.

Volunteers interview individuals needing documents of identification. They will do the paperwork, do the research, and MSM will cover the cost to support clients through this process.

The Missouri City Crawfish Fest is a community celebration featuring authentic Creole crawfish, local vendors, and scholarship fundraising activities benefiting the Missouri City Chamber Education Foundation.

Volunteers will help ensure a smooth and enjoyable event experience while supporting our goal of raising funds to award scholarships to graduating seniors in our community.

Artist's Load - In

Direct traffic and flow as the Artists arrive to and on to the festival grounds. This will be a crucial support role for Artists and festival staff to ensure a successful setup for the festival! Volunteers will be stationed at various points throughout festival grounds directing Artists driving into the festival and may answer a few questions. Volunteers will work closely with the Artist Relations Committee. This is a great role for someone with lots of energy and great leadership! (Volunteers must be 18 and older)

Greeter

Welcome guest, assist with patrons with locating tickets for validating (as needed), direct foot traffic, give directions as patrons enter and leave the festival, and answer questions. Usher Assistant

Between getting people in place, you'll support the Volunteer Check-In team as needed. Familiarity with the festival and volunteering is a plus. There is a lot of walking, and this is a great way to see the festival from every direction!

We offer weekly tennis clinics for children & teens with autism. Volunteers are paired up with a participant, hopefully for the duration of the session and beyond!

If you know how to fix a bike, Freewheels Houston needs you.

Our volunteers repair donated bikes that go to refugees, veterans and young people from low-income families in Houston — people who depend on these bikes to get to work and school. Last year our mechanics repaired and distributed more than 640 bikes. The bottleneck is always skilled hands.

Our shop is well equipped with tools, parts and a repair checklist developed with input from a master bike technician. If you know most bike systems — drivetrain, shifting, brakes, wheels and tires, handlebars and steering — you will be repairing bikes on your first visit. If you're still building your skills, our experienced volunteers are generous with what they know.

We will put you to work cleaning bikes, fixing flats and helping around the shop. Each time you come back, you will learn something new. A lot of our most experienced mechanics started exactly where you're starting — with no idea how much they'd love this.

The work has an immediate payoff. People come to the shop every weekend to pick up a bike that will get them to work, to school, to the grocery store. You will see that happen.

BEI's journal club focuses on helping students practice writing in English, learning tech skills, and creating community. As a volunteer, you will help edit students' writing, lead discussions, and build relationships with students and other volunteers.

Volunteers meet for the club every Monday from 6:45 PM to 8:45PM.

Cornerstone Family Resource Center is seeking compassionate and dedicated volunteers to serve as GED or ESL tutors for adult learners at Premier on Woodfair Apartments. This is a wonderful opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of individuals seeking to improve their English language skills or earn their high school equivalency.

Commitment:

2-hour sessions

Once per week (day/time flexible based on volunteer availability)

Minimum commitment: 3 months preferred


Responsibilities:

Facilitate small-group or one-on-one tutoring sessions in EED Science preparation

Support learners with basic skills

Encourage and motivate participants as they work toward their goals

Follow a flexible curriculum provided by Cornerstone or recommend resources if you have experience


Qualifications:

Patience, empathy, and a desire to help others succeed

Experience teaching, tutoring, or working with adult learners is a plus, but not required

Bilingual (English/Spanish) is helpful but not necessary

Company Description
Young Homeowners League is a 501c3 nonprofit to empower high schoolers and other youths to work, save, buy land, build starter homes, and become young homeowners.
Revolving fund will be used to acquire lower priced land to develop into lots, with target cost $30k each.
Our first focus area is within the City of Houston with sewer line, and our second is communities within a one-hour commute of Houston.
We organize youths into project teams with experienced members to build starter homes, 1000 to 1400 sqft size, starting $120/sqft.
Young team members earn the majority share (80%) of project labor costs, with experienced members receiving 20%.
Team members have priority to purchase the homes they help build, at cost.

Role Description
An Affordable Homeownership Champion is an unpaid volunteer role, unless actively participating in construction work, in which case compensation comes from the experienced members portion (20%) of labor costs.
Champions can contribute in one or more of the following ways:
1. Help future homeowners, including yourself, plan to work, save, build credit, invest in land, support the construction of starter homes, and prepare for homeowner.
2. Support or supervise construction teams (ideal for teachers, retirees, tradespeople, or business professionals) building starter homes, especially part-time or during summer.
3. If you own land or a home and need a shed or smaller home built, consider placing an order through our project teams. Shed reference $35/sqft. Home within 1400 sqft reference $120/sqft
4. Help connect us with organizations offering grants or low-interest loans for our land revolving fund.
5. If you can put money into our revolving fund as a loan, let’s talk.
6. Help design starter homes that are attractive, efficient, using lower cost materials, and easier to build especially for less experienced youths.

Join us at Woodland Park and Freed Art and Nature Park for the Trash Bash 2026! Friends of Woodland Park is participating in the largest single-day waterway clean-up event in Texas. It is held at locations throughout Houston each spring in continuation of the Galveston Bay Foundation's mission to clean up and promote healthy waterways that lead to Galveston Bay.

Woodland Park, located at 212 Parkview Street, is one of the City's oldest public parks and an officially designated nature preserve.

We'll provide trash bags, gloves, trash grabbers, sunscreen, bug spray, snacks and water. 

We urge you to wear long pants, closed toed shoes and a hat.

Help refugees take the first step toward U.S. citizenship by joining our team as a Civics Outreach Volunteer. 

In this role, you’ll make phone calls to clients to share information about our free civics classes, which help prepare adults for the citizenship exam. Your calls help ensure more people can access the resources they need to succeed. 

As a volunteer, you will: 

You don’t need to speak another language or have prior experience—just a welcoming attitude and a desire to support others on their citizenship journey. If you do speak a language like Spanish, Dari, Pashto, Arabic, or Urdu, that’s a wonderful bonus!

Volunteer shifts available Monday through Friday, between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Training and scripts are provided.
