Volunteer: Bike Around the Bay: Supply Inventory Day
Behind Every Great Event Is Great Inventory.
Bike Around the Bay doesn't begin when riders roll out. It begins long before the first mile, with volunteers preparing the supplies, equipment, and resources that keep the event running smoothly. Join us for Supply Inventory Day as we count, organize, and prepare materials for break points and event operations. This is an opportunity to work alongside fellow volunteers, get a behind-the-scenes look at event logistics, and help ensure our teams have what they need when ride weekend arrives. As an Inventory Support Volunteer, you will: Work with Team Leads to count, sort, and organize supplies and materials Restock break point bins and prepare equipment for deployment Assist with organizing event resources that support volunteers and riders across the route Help create a smooth and efficient foundation for a successful Bike Around the BayNo prior experience needed. Staff will provide guidance and direction throughout the day. Please bring a reusable water bottle and snacks. Restrooms and wi-fi are available onsite. Be prepared for standing, walking, and light lifting throughout the shift. Getting There Search for “EcoCenter Sponsored by Reliant” when using Google Maps - View site on Google.com . Alternatively, you can enter the coordinates (29.750970027078534, -94.91775406482465) into your maps application as you would a street address. From TX-99 and W Bay Rd/Old F-M Rd 1405 Head north to turn into Bayer Rd. Turn left on the restricted road; you will see an EcoCenter directional sign (its like a small yard sign with a blue arrow). Continue on the restricted road for 200 ft until you reach the EcoCenter on the left.Note: The Ecocenter does not have a public address and is a part of the larger NRG Cedar Bayou campus. Getting here can be complicated without a map application. Prepare your route in advance. When you help prepare the people and supplies that power Bike Around the Bay, you help create an experience that inspires others to give towards protecting Galveston Bay. Volunteer: Come Hide from Search Dogs - Jack Brooks ParkWe are looking for people to come out and hide for search dogs while they are training. These people need to be willing to come out for at least a few hours and be willing to run, walk, and hide from the dogs in all different types of scenarios. When found by the dog, they should also be willing to play with the dog per the handler's instructions or offer the dog it's treat reward. It is a lot of fun and a unique experience to help these dogs out! You'll be provided with a location to walk to in order to "hide" from the canines. The canines will then come find the missing person. Of course, you will never actually be missing, but we always need new people to pretend to be missing. We will be enjoying nature, so dress appropriately with closed-toed shoes and comfortable pants. Be sure to bring water, sunscreen, bug spray and maybe a good book or electronic device to keep you busy during the down time. All high school students or older are welcome to participate. Feel free to view our website to see what we are about: www.AlphaSar.org. A confirmation email will be sent after sign-up to confirm your volunteer slot. A waiver will be attached. Any participants under 16 years old will need to be accompanied by an adult during their volunteer time. Volunteer: Volunteer Online as a Conversation PartnerReady to change a life from the comfort of home? Join ENGin as a conversation partner and be matched with a learner in Ukraine for weekly one-on-one English conversations. In just one hour a week, you can help someone build confidence, break the language barrier, and feel supported, all while discovering a new culture and making a genuine human connection. We’ll pair you up with a learner in Ukraine for weekly one hour videochats at times that are convenient for you. During your conversations, you’ll facilitate English practice for your partner, learn about each other’s cultures, and offer an empathetic, authentic space for connection. Our only requirements for volunteers are English fluency, a strong internet connection, and the ability to commit to one hour a week for a minimum of 12 weeks. No prior tutoring experience or knowledge of Ukrainian language is needed to volunteer with ENGin. We offer ample training resources, session materials, and total flexibility to customize your sessions to fit your/your partner’s goals and preferences. Our friendly team is available to support you throughout your time with us. Since our launch in 2020, ENGin has matched over 32,000 volunteers with Ukrainians for authentic English-language connection across borders, and we continue to grow every day. 99% of our learners report feeling they were able to break the language barrier as a participant in our program, and 79% of our participants form lasting friendships. We're incredibly proud of these results, and we can't wait to welcome you into this global community of volunteers making them possible. Here's what three ENGin volunteers say about their experience. "I made a friend in Ukraine and we are teaching each other about our culture, our language, and our humor. We're even trading dad jokes! Both of us look forward to our chats and have a hard time wrapping it up." “Fantastic organization doing great work. So happy to be a small part of it. My partner and I have worked together for two years and have become good friends! Her English has become better, and I have become more knowledgeable about Ukraine!” "This program has been, I think, life-changing for both of us. I really consider her more like my daughter right now. That's how close we have become!" Ready to Get Started? Volunteer: 2026 Plastic Free July: Kuhlman Gully Cleanups
What we throw away doesn’t go away
Even the smallest pieces of trash can have a ripple effect on marine life, communities, and future generations. As the second most productive estuary ↗ in the United States, Galveston Bay supports both wildlife and the people who depend on it. To help stop trash before it gets into the Bay, Galveston Bay Foundation is installing trash traps at three inland bayou sites. International soccer games being hosted in Houston this summer may impact the trash that enter our bayous. That is why we are hosting two cleanups and accompanying surveys on July 16th & 30th as a part of the regional Trash Free Gulf initiative ↗ during Plastic Free July ↗. We hope you will join us in cleaning up and monitoring trash levels to measure the impact. As a community cleanup volunteer, you and your team will: Use gloves, trash grabbers, buckets, and bags to collect and remove litter from the shoreline Participate in a litter audit Work in tandem at a site where we are conducting a Marine Debris Survey, helping remove debris after the survey has been completed in random transects If you encounter them, help remove small plastic pellets called nurdles, which are especially common near the check-in areaNo experience is necessary. We will show you what to do. Restrooms are available nearby at the park. Be prepared to stand and walk for over an hour. Come prepared with a reusable water bottle and appropriate outdoor clothing. NOTE: All minors must be accompanied by a registered parent/guardian or approved chaperone over the age of 18. Parents or guardians must register and complete a waiver for participants under age 18. By removing marine debris from the shoreline, you help protect wildlife, improve water quality, and keep Galveston Bay healthier for people and nature. Site Map & Where to Meet Why This Work MattersDebris poses a serious threat to this ecosystem. Trash that enters the Bay can: Entangle or be ingested by wildlife Damage fragile coastal habitats Block oxygen from reaching the water Release harmful chemicals that impact animals and peopleVisit onelessstraw.org ↗ to make your pledge to use less plastic this July. Agency: Water Protection

Volunteer: Come Hide from Search Dogs - Terry Hershey ParkWe are looking for people to come out and hide for search dogs while they are training.
