Alzheimer's Association Support Group facilitators create a safe, open environment where people share their feelings, thoughts and experiences in a combined effort to better cope with and manage the shared problems of dementia. 

You'll be training to serve as an co-facilitator with an experienced facilitator for a group that meets the second Wednesdays at 1 pm.

Qualifications:

· Ability to be empathetic and separate personal needs from group needs.

· Strong listening and effective communication skills.

· Ability to redirect and facilitate discussion as well as fulfill the duties and responsibilities as described in the Facilitator Agreement.

· Commitment to promote the mission and services of the Association and willingness to act as an extension of the Association.

· Experience with dementia as a family member or health care professional preferred but not mandatory.

The ECDC - Houston Multicultural Center is looking for women to volunteer as volleyball and basketball coaches to support our Refugee Health Promotions program. This opportunity is open to anyone with a foundational understanding of these sports, and a willingness to support women learn and play together.

Mutts & Meows Rescue needs volunteers to help with our inhouse cat care at 2 local Petsmarts in the Katy area. 

Multiple shifts are available 7 days a week. Shifts are 2 hour segments and tasks include feeding the cats, cleaning the liter boxes, cleaning the cages, and socializing with the cats.  Volunteers must be 16 years or older.  For the safety of the volunteers and the cats, all volunteers much be trained first.  Training session can be counted as volunteer hours.

The compassionate and dedicated team at A Serene Healthcare provides exceptional medical, psychosocial, spiritual, and volunteer support to individuals and families facing life-limiting illnesses in Houston and surrounding areas. As a locally owned Hospice and Palliative Care company, we are committed to enhancing the quality of life of our patients. Our volunteer program at A Serene Healthcare has had to adapt due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, we are currently seeking compassionate volunteers available during business hours (9 am to 5 pm) to assist our hospice office staff with tasks such as answering phones, inputting data, creating social media content, and additional clerical work. Volunteers skilled in filing papers and performing clerical tasks are especially needed and valued. This is an excellent opportunity to gain insight into the day-to-day operations of the hospice and palliative care industries.

Our interns require a minimum commitment of 4-6 hours per week. We understand the importance of flexibility and are willing to work with your schedule, particularly if you are employed with another organization.

A Door-to-Door Assessment of the flood affected areas. A questionnaire is utilized to determine the resident’s immediate recovery needs and to start the process on the long-term rebuild. Teams will be given packets for each home that was affected with important contact information and assistance.

Assist with organizing flood files and contacting residents. Provide assistance to individuals that come into the office to utilize the computers or fill out paperwork. Answer phones and provide support to office staff.

Assist with inputting assessments and contact information into the system. Verifying ownership of property through the Fort Bend County Central Appraisal District.

Assist with getting supplies to the work sites, picking up supplies from the POD (Point of Distribution) sites, running to the store for supplies. This individual must have access to a truck and/or trailer.

Volunteers are needed to spend time with our hospice patients.

We at Encompass are looking for compassionate, patience, loving volunteers to spend time with our patients. They need and want someone to share their final days with and we want people with a nurturing nature to give them that most basic of needs, human contact. You would spend time with the patients talking, listening, playing games or anything the patient would want or possibly need.

Our offices are in Clear Lake and the Woodlands area but we have patients all over the Greater Houston Area and Woodlands. The training would be done in our Houston office but the opportunity would be in the Meadows Place Area.

Due to the nature of the patients’ conditions each volunteer will be required to go through required training to volunteer with our patients. The process to become a volunteer takes a little bit but the rewards of giving your time to these patients is beyond measurable. You can give these people a final dignity in their darkest hour. As a PC program volunteer, you will assist in providing intensive case management (ICM) services to vulnerable refugee populations, including those with medical needs, disabilities, or social adjustment issues. You will support case managers in client communication, documentation, and referrals to essential services such as healthcare, employment, and mental health services. Volunteers play an important role in helping vulnerable individuals navigate complex systems and achieve self-sufficiency. This role is ideal for volunteers interested in social work, healthcare navigation, or working with underserved populations.

You will support employment counselors in preparing clients for job applications, interviews, and employment readiness. Additionally, volunteers will help with data entry, tracking employment outcomes, and organizing job-related documentation. This role is perfect for those with an interest in workforce development or helping individuals become self-sufficient through employment.

The Quality Assurance Support Volunteer will assist in organizing, maintaining, and auditing client case files across multiple programs, including Reception and Placement (R&P), Matching Grant (MG), Preferred Communities (PC) and Social Integration Microenterprises (SIMED). The volunteer will be responsible for ensuring that all documentation is up-to-date, secure, and easily accessible, while also providing language interpretation when needed, supporting data entry, reporting, and system development for efficient file management.

This role involves collaboration with various program teams to ensure adherence to grant requirements, particularly regarding file management and security. The volunteer will also participate in team meetings to contribute to progress reports and help develop strategies for improving quality assurance.

This role offers valuable experience in refugee resettlement, program administration, and compliance management. The volunteer will gain hands-on experience in case management, employment counseling, and the operational side of federally funded refugee programs.

Program Support and Compliance
• File Management: Organize and maintain both physical and electronic client case files. Ensure that documentation for all programs (R&P, MG, PC, etc.) is up to date, easily accessible, and secure.
• Data Entry & Reporting: Perform accurate data entry for case documentation, service provision, and client outcomes when needed. Utilize SharePoint and Refugee Management System to manage data files, generate reports, and track program progress.
• Document Management System Development: Assist in creating and implementing systems to streamline document storage and retrieval processes. Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with organizational standards.
• Clerical Support: Provide additional support by preparing reports, memos, and other correspondence. Collaborate with team members to gather necessary data for document audits and other administrative tasks.

Cross-Program Collaboration
• Collaboration with Other Programs: Work with other teams, such as the Reception and Placement (R&P) Matching Grant (MG), Preferred Communities (PC) and Social Integration (SI) to ensure that programs are following grant requirements with respect to file management and security.
• Departmental Meetings: Participate in team meetings to discuss findings, progress reports, and strategies for improving quality assurance.

Key Qualities and Skills:

The ECDC-Houston Multicultural Center will be offering English classes to the newest members of our community. We are looking for volunteers to help facilitate beginner English classes.

The Resale Shop Boutique Assistant is responsible for sorting donations and displaying boutique items. Someone with an eye for designer brands would be ideal!

The Warehouse Food Processor volunteer position includes the following details:

Volunteers are needed for the Texas Challengers Quiz Tournaments (TCQT) middle school and high school Quiz Bowl tournament at Katy High School on Saturday, January 10. Most volunteers will serve as moderators and read questions to the students. Moderators will need to complete a quick 10-15 minute training before volunteering. Volunteers can also serve as scorekeepers. Training for scorekeepers takes about 5 minutes. Free pizza will be provided for lunch. Partial shifts are welcome.

The Lone Star Symphonic Band is a Non-Profit Community Band based in Katy, Texas. We are organizing a non-auditioned community choir for our patriotic concert, to be held on July 2nd, 2023, and are in search of chorus members.

Rehearsals will be one night a week - on Sundays - beginning on June 4th, 2023, from 6 pm - 8 pm. The performance will be on July 2nd, at 4 pm. Rehearsals and the performance will all be at Holy Covenant United Methodist Church, 22111 Morton Rd., Katy, TX 77449.

Invest yourself in building relationships with children and help spark their imagination through music, learning activities, play, and creative art activities. Activities are planned and directed by the classroom teacher. (Available times: 8 - 11 am and 3 - 5 pm)

Spend one-on-one time with a child who requires individualized help or attention. Invest in the Prayer, Affirmation, and Love of one specific child. Curriculum and activities will be provided. (Available times: 8 - 11 am and 3 - 5 pm)

Spend time visiting with a group of 2 to 3 children, reading and doing interactive education kits. (Available times: 8 - 11 am and 3 - 5 pm)

Provide general assistance at the centers. This may include: developing and organizing supplies and materials, prepping gifts for teachers and mothers, assisting at any of the above events, helping at graduation, data input, cutting, laminating, printing, filing, snack prep, bulletin board prep, building classroom furniture, cleaning classroom rugs, and other general activities. (Available times: 8 - 5 pm)

Provide support to teachers during lunch and nap time transitions. Volunteers will assist in cleaning up after lunch, sweeping the classroom, wiping down tables, disposing of trash, helping children wash their hands and change their clothes, and patting the children to sleep. (Available times: 11 am to 1 pm)

The foot traffic in our building is constant. Our Lobby Greeter will station at the front reception to greet guests. Small project tasks may be asked of this person. This person must be personable and carry an overall positive attitude. Background check required. Bilingual is a plus, but not required.

West Houston Assistance Ministries has eleven (11) thriving raised beds who need more love and attention. What is grown is distributed through our food pantry and given to our clients to help with food insecurities.  We have several volunteers, including a Master Gardener, who are trying to maintain the demands of the flourishing garden.

WHAM is in need of Pantry Shoppers Tuesday - Thursday from 7:30am - 12:00pm and 12:30pm - 3:30pm to assist our clients shop the pantry shelves, refrigerators and freezer.  We have an additional shift on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday and Thursday of the month from 3:00pm - 5:00pm.  Volunteers would advise the clients the number allowed of each item, help load and unload and restock as needed.

WHAM Homeless Walk-Up Distribution volunteers work at our Walk-up tent every Monday from 7:30am - 10:30am

Tasks include:

WHAM is focused on helping those in crisis return to self-sustainability.  Our pantry distributes to nutritious food Tuesday - Friday.  On Fridays from 7:30am - 12:00pm we host a Drive through Food distribution serving 150 families or more.  Volunteers would assist with any of the following: client intake, direct traffic, load fresh produce and dry goods into trunks of cars, bag fresh produce and other items, and light clean up.

PAIR operates Global Learners programs in three middle schools with significant refugee populations. PAIR volunteer mentors engage students by providing supportive relationships, homework assistance, English language practice, and recreational and creative activities.

Sessions take place after school, 4-6PM. Each session begins with outside games, homework help, and sharing time to transition from the school day. Mentors then break off with a small group of students to work on a lesson or activity centered around a particular theme. Global Learners assists participants in developing more positive attitudes towards school, achieving greater academic success, developing more positive relationships with peers and adults, and continuing their education through high school and beyond.

Volunteering with the Learners program requires a semester-long commitment of 10 program sessions.

WHAM is in need of volunteers to accompany our pantry and resale store drivers to pick up donated furniture and household items as well as donations from local restaurants and grocery stores.  The pantry driver shift is 6:00am - 12:00pm. The resale driver shift is 9:00am - 2:00pm.  

Volunteers must be able to lift 50 pounds, climb into the cab of the box truck, and move independently.

Bilingual Spanish speaking volunteers needed for Parkway Fellowship North Community Food Fair.  Held the second Saturday of each month.  This volunteer position will be checking in cars that will be receiving food.  You will need to have cell phone app experience, and enjoy talking with people.

A home visitor is a volunteer who assists a blind adult with grocery shopping, mail reading, letter writing, bill paying and/or running errands. 

Commitment: 1 or 2 times a month.
