Every year, thousands of volunteers gather along Texas waterways to do their part in cleaning up the environment by participating in the largest, single-day waterway cleanup in the state of Texas, the River, Lakes, Bays 'N Bayous Trash Bash®. This is the biggest volunteer event of the year for Bayou Preservation Association. Last year, we coordinated 450 community volunteers who cleaned 50 cubic yards of trash at Collins Park on Cypress Creek. This year, we are primed to do it again with your help.
Volunteers will clean 6.5 miles of waterways. The focus will be on cleaning Cypress Creek, Dry Gulley, Pillot Gully, Spring Gully, and adjacent areas. This will include: Kickerillo-Mischer Nature Preserve, Cypress Creek Greenway, Meyer Park, Cypress Creek YMCA, and Collins Park.
Community volunteers should show up at 8 a.m. for registration.
To help run the event for the community volunteers, staff volunteers are crucial to help make the event a success. Staff volunteers are needed to assist in the following areas:
- Event set-up
- Registration
- Supply distribution (T-shirts, trash bags, gloves, etc)
- Bus stewards that ride with the volunteers and give them safety/education information during the bus ride
- Hot dog cookers
- Lunch servers
- Event pick-up
