Description

Westbury Community Garden is an all volunteer organization that maintains a 7-acre property in southwest Houston. The property contains 62 allotment garden plots that rent for $72/year as well as 2 orchards, an NABA certified butterfly habitat garden, a prairie restoration project, compost and rain catchment systems and an outdoor learning pavilion.

The grounds and common areas are all maintained by volunteers. WCG holds a volunteer community service day once a month on the fourth Saturday. (Except for May, November and December when we reschedule to avoid holiday weekends.)

Volunteers perform many tasks which may include picking up litter, weeding, mulching. pruning trees and shrubs, transplanting plants or sowing seeds, turning compost, mowing, weed-eating and other site maintenance chores.

Volunteers should wear a hat and sunscreen, sturdy, closed toe shoes and dress in layers appropriate for the weather. Please bring your own work gloves and any favorite hand tools. Please be sure personal items are labeled with your name. We no longer provide shared water and snacks due to the COVID-19 situation, but please feel free to bring your own items. There is a port-a-potty on site. Limited on-site parking and street parking are available. Please do not bring valuables or leave anything valuable in your car.

Volunteers under age 18 need a signed release from a parent. Adult volunteers also must sign a release. The form is downloadable here.

We appreciate your commitment to community service. Thank you for your interest in Westbury Community Garden!
