Get Connected Icon Mentors commit to meeting with their youth at least once a month (1–2 hours) and participating in one monthly group mentoring session (1–2 hours). Occasional workshops or community events are optional.

Description

Join the Refugee Youth Mentoring (RYM) Program at Church World Service – Houston and make a lasting impact in the lives of refugee and immigrant youth!

Through this six-month mentoring program, volunteer mentors are matched with youth (ages 15–24) who are working toward academic, career, and life goals as they adjust to life in Houston.

As a mentor, you’ll meet with your assigned youth once a month (in-person or virtual) and participate in group mentoring sessions and community activities that build confidence, connection, and leadership.

What You’ll Do:

  • Meet with youth 1x/month for six months.

  • Support educational and career goals through mentoring.

  • Participate in monthly group mentoring and community activities.

  • Encourage cross-cultural learning and inclusion.

Ideal Volunteers:

  • Age 21 or older.

  • Passionate about supporting young people.

  • Culturally sensitive and open-minded.

  • Able to complete a background check and orientation (covered by CWS).
