Alpha Search and Recovery will be hosting a search and rescue canine seminar in Huntsville, Texas. We are looking for people to come and hide for the search dogs while they are training. These volunteers will need to be able to commit to a 5-hour shift and be willing to run, walk, and hide from the dogs in all different types of scenarios. When found by the dog, they should be willing to play with the dog per the handler's instructions or offer the dog their treat reward. It is a lot of fun and a unique experience to help these dogs out!
During your volunteer time, you'll be provided with various locations to walk to in order to "hide" from the canines. The canines will then come find you in order to practice real missing person scenarios. Of course, you will never actually be missing, but we always need new people to pretend to be missing. We will be enjoying nature, so dress appropriately with closed-toed shoes and comfortable pants. Be sure to bring water, sunscreen, bug spray and maybe a good book or electronic device to keep you busy during the down time. All high school students or older are welcome to participate; all minors under 16 years old will need to be accompanied by an adult during their volunteer time. Check out
