Beauty’s Community Garden presents our 8th Annual MLK PEACE through PIE Community Event & Fundraiser, as we celebrate the work and vision of Dr. King’s message toward a harmonious place for all mankind at the table.
This community event is for the entire family. The community can enjoy entertainment, free food, pie stories, pie sampling and chances to vote on the best pies. Also included are chances to win prizes, receive giveaways, and attend two sessions of Garden and Healthy Cooking Workshops–Spanish translators are available for some workshops.

We need a volunteer that has the ability to organize, coordinate & delegate tasks to other volunteers ( SPECIFICALLY FOR THE PIE PORTION OF THE EVENT ) during our 8th annual MLK PEACE through PIE Event. This volunteer position will handle all aspects of our community pie contest. From coordination of delivery, set-up, tasting, judging and clean-up after the event.
What will the volunteer pie coordinator do?
- Oversee coordination of pies upon delivery
- Oversee counting of votes for both the community choice and the judges choice
- Oversee clean-up efforts after the event
Volunteer pie coordinator will need to delegate tasks to volunteers:
- Labeling of pies
- Placement of tables
- Setting up tables with coverings
- Placement of signage
- Placement of utensils and or products for pie tasting
- Cutting portions of the pies to be placed in serving cups
- Serving the pie samples to the community
- Setting up area for judges
- Placing samples in judges room for tasting and or serving judges
- Ensure needs of judges are met and any communication to judges is clear
- Delegating clean up details
This list is not exhaustive and more details may need to be included and implemented, but this gives a general idea of what a pie coordinator will need to be responsible for.
This volunteer must have:
- Exceptional Organizational Skills
- Possess the ability to negotiate with others in order to ensure they work together effectively.
- Ability to work in Google Spreadsheets
- AVAILABILITY for weekly / bi-weekly text and or email updates up until January 13th, 2023
- Ability to attend meetings for the event as needed ( usually Tuesday 6pm bi-weekly or weekly closer to date of event )
