Needs From: Volunteer Houston

Assist in prepping and distributing groceries to families in need. This may include stocking the food pantry, sorting donated items for quality and bagging groceries for individual families, as well as helping families get groceries into their cars. Volunteers may also assist clients to fill out required information for the Houston Food Bank.

The food pantry hosts clients on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

To assist with Tuesday drive-thru distributions, please go to Houston Food Fair Helpers (Tuesdays). To assist with Saturday drive-thru distributions, please go to Houston Food Fair Helpers (Saturdays).

Accounts will be created for new volunteers at www.catholiccharities.org/volunteer. Qualifications must be completed before beginning first shift.

Volunteers aged 14 and older must sign up for shifts themselves. Parents please do not sign up on behalf of your teenagers. Youth waivers must be signed by parent/guardian prior to beginning first shift.

NOTE: We cannot accept court mandated community service hours for any of our volunteer opportunities.

WHAM is focused on helping those in crisis return to self-sustainability.  Our pantry distributes nutritious food Tuesday - Friday.  On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, our clients have appointments to shop inside the pantry to choose the food they want from the stocked shelves, refrigerators and freezers.  We need volunteers to advise clients of the allotted number of items, help load/unload carts and keep the shelves stocked, as well as sort and package fresh produce and food items. We have 120+ clients scheduled a day.

WHAM is focused on helping those in crisis return to self-sustainability.  Our pantry distributes nutritious food Tuesday - Friday.  On Fridays from 7:30am - 12:00pm we host a Drive through Food distribution serving 150 families or more.  Volunteers would assist with any of the following: client intake, direct traffic, load fresh produce and dry goods into trunks of cars, bag fresh produce and other items, and light clean up.

Help Mesa Outreach retrieve donations from local grocery stores.  We need help on Mondays and Thursdays, 9am until complete, usually around 11 am.  You can volunteer as many days as you prefer, even a once-a-month commitment will help.  Volunteers need to be able to lift 50 pounds (most boxes are less) and have a truck or large SUV.  This food helps us feed our client families each month and is a vital part in making our mission work for our community.  

Keegan Kitchen volunteers assist with meal prep and packaging of hot meals for daily distribution to community locations where children gather after school.

The Protein Pack Room is one of only 10 in food banks across the United States. This unique and highly essential volunteer opportunity greatly impacts our ability to distribute nutritious foods to our partners, ensuring our neighbors receive the protein they need.

We distribute food every Tuesday morning and Thursday morning/afternoon for senior clients.  Help is needed to gather the food and deliver to their cars.  You can volunteer for shifts from 10am-12pm on Tuesdays or 10am-12pm and 12pm-2pm on Thursdays.  We are in particular need for volunteers on Tuesdays.  We ask for a commitment to volunteer 2-4 times per month.  There is typically no heavy lifting, just putting items into a grocery cart and taking it to the clients' cars.  Please join us!

Bilingual help is needed in our pantry to assist the manager with providing items for our volunteers who take the food to the families' cars.  Every Thursday from 3-7pm.

Ever wonder where those Red Barrel donations go – they go to your local food pantry!

Volunteers are needed to pick up Red Barrel food donations from two nearby grocery stores in the Cypress area and deliver donations to the Cy-Fair Helping Hands Community Food Pantry at 9204 Emmott Road on a Monday or Thursday morning between the hours of 9:00 am – 12:30 pm. Volunteers must be over 18, have a large vehicle (e.g., pick-up truck, van or SUV) and car insurance. This is a relatively flexible position that doesn’t require a lot of time commitment yet contributes significantly to our mission to bring hope to the homeless and hungry!

Enjoy working with people, have good computer/data skills and bilingual in English and Spanish? We need you!  

Volunteers are needed to register new and returning clients, validate eligibility, inform clients of upcoming events and run reports. As a member of the broader Community Food Pantry Team, Registration Assistants may be asked to help from time-to-time in other areas of the food pantry.  Volunteers must be fluent in both English and Spanish (written and verbal) and will be working with confidential information.  

Volunteers should be able to commit to a Monday, Thursday morning on a weekly basis and/or a 1st or 3rd Saturday morning on a monthly basis.  Shift hours are 9:00 am - 1:00 pm.  Long term considerations only, please.

A Board Member experienced in management of charitable organization.  Ability in public speaking and promoting activities.  Fund raising experience a plus.

Target Hunger had to close many of its brick-and-mortar pantries due to COVID-19. We began delivering prepackaged boxes of food to our client's homes, in partnership with Door Dash. This partnership with Door Dash is coming to an end so we are trying to switch our clients over to our mobile pantries. Staff has expressed the need of volunteers specifically on Tuesdays usually from 9am to 11am. Volunteers in the pantry will help pantry staff guide client's shopping, the restocking of the mobile pantry, and assist clients to their cars. Bilingual preferred. Prefer a reoccurring volunteer.

Come and volunteer at the Target Hunger Food Pantry on Senior Pantry Day!

Volunteers will assist with checking in clients, clients while they shop, keep the shelves stocked, and properly weigh client's groceries. Our pantry staff needs assistance on the first and third Tuesday from 8 am - 12 pm at the Denver Harbor Multi-Service Center Target Hunger food pantry. A reoccurring volunteer is preferred. Bilingual in Spanish is also preferred, but not necessary.

Help is needed each week process applications for new clients each Wednesday.  Shifts are available from 10am-12pm and 12pm-2pm.  Work is indoors, seated.  Registration involves entering application data into computer program and speaking with the clients about their needs.  Come help us each week as we assist families needing food assistance in the NW Houston area.  Volunteer once a month or more.

Cypress Assistance Ministries (CAM) is partnering with some area grocery stores to help provide food for our food pantry. We just need some helpful individuals to pick up the donations from these retailers and help deliver them to CAM's facility.

Programs like this are wonderful resources for CAM, as they help us source items that would be otherwise difficult to source (such as bakery items and produce), and they help reduce food waste in our community.

Volunteers must have access to a vehicle suitable for transporting food items (an SUV or minivan would work perfectly, a sedan with sufficient trunk space would work as well). We will provide insulated bags.

We need weekly drivers for Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. You may choose to volunteer for one, two, or all three of these pick-ups.

A Point of Distribution (POD) Volunteer helps give out important supplies like food and water during emergencies. They work at special locations and have important jobs like keeping the line organized, handing out supplies the right way, checking how much is left, and keeping records. They also answer questions from people and help set up and take down the site during emergencies.

Greet homeless guests, gather essential details, check eligibility for services, and answer phones. Shift: 8:45 am to 12:00 pm

Join us at Paul Revere Middle School to help grow, maintain, and harvest fresh vegetables from our thriving community garden. Located right on campus, this garden provides nutritious produce to supplement food distributed to families through a bi-monthly food distribution program. No gardening experience is required—just a willing heart and a pair of helping hands! This opportunity is flexible, with both weekday and weekend times available. All are welcome to be part of this life-giving project that strengthens our community.
