Houston Furniture Bank helps furnish homes for families rebuilding after homelessness, disaster, crisis, and other difficult circumstances. Right now, additional hands are urgently needed to help keep furniture moving through the warehouse and out to families.

Volunteer Duties

Volunteers may assist with:

Moving and organizing furnitureLoading and unloading donated itemsPreparing furniture for distributionSorting and staging household goodsKeeping warehouse areas organized and safeAssisting warehouse staff with other general support needs

Some assignments may involve lifting and physical activity.

Who Can Participate

Individuals, families, community groups, churches, civic organizations, student groups, and corporate teams are welcome.

Volunteer service hours and eligible community service hours may be completed during this event.

Participants needing verification of service hours should sign in and sign out so their hours can be properly documented.

Why Your Help Matters

Every couch moved, table staged, and bed prepared helps another household receive essential furniture faster.

When the warehouse is understaffed, furniture distribution slows down. A strong volunteer team can immediately increase the Furniture Bank's ability to serve families throughout the Greater Houston area.

Bring a friend, family member, coworker, or group and serve together.

Volunteer: Disaster Relief Kits

Help our community prepare for the unexpected by assembling disaster relief kits for individuals who may need to shelter in place during hurricanes and other natural disasters.

Volunteers will organize and pack essential emergency supplies into ready-to-use kits that help individuals stay safe, connected, and prepared during and immediately after a disaster. Every kit assembled provides practical resources that can make a meaningful difference during an emergency.

No special skills are required—just a willingness to help. This hands-on volunteer opportunity is a meaningful way to strengthen community preparedness and ensure our neighbors have access to critical supplies when they need them most. Whether you're volunteering individually or with a group, your time will help build resilience before disaster strikes.
