Volunteer: Come Hide from Search Dogs - Kitty Hollow ParkWe are looking for people to come out and hide for search dogs while they are training. These people need to be willing to come out for at least a few hours and be willing to run, walk, and hide from the dogs in all different types of scenarios. When found by the dog, they should also be willing to play with the dog per the handler's instructions or offer the dog it's treat reward. It is a lot of fun and a unique experience to help these dogs out! You'll be provided with a location to walk to in order to "hide" from the canines. The canines will then come find the missing person. Of course, you will never actually be missing, but we always need new people to pretend to be missing. We will be enjoying nature, so dress appropriately with closed-toed shoes and comfortable pants. Be sure to bring water, sunscreen, bug spray and maybe a good book or electronic device to keep you busy during the down time. All high school students or older are welcome to participate. Feel free to view our website to see what we are about: www.AlphaSar.org. A confirmation email will be sent after sign-up to confirm your volunteer slot. A waiver will be attached. Any participants under 16 years old will need to be accompanied by an adult during their volunteer time. We will be meeting in the parking lot by the Veteran's Memorial. Volunteer: FosterFostering a needy pet is a richly rewarding experience. It's also an emotional, often difficult experience that isn't for everyone - but for those that can do it, it's an experience that won't soon be forgotten. Houston Humane Society is always in desperate need of foster families, especially right now. First, let's talk about what kinds of pets may need foster care:
Sick and injured pets - Because HHS is an open admission shelter, meaning we do not turn away any animal, we often take in animals that are too sick to go up for adoption. Some of them need a quiet place to recover as well as some additional care.
Too young! - HHS often takes in animals that are simply too young, or may even still be nursing. Sometimes they just need a couple of weeks, while others may need a few months.
Behavior - Often an animal that has been neglected or may be too timid needs a couple of weeks with a foster to learn that being with people can be a good thing. Sometimes pets at the shelter just need a break, and a foster home can give them a quiet place to de-stress.
We provide the medical care, you provide the loving home. We will work with you on what kinds of animals you can care for and your schedule. https://www.houstonhumane.org/volunteer/foster-application Agency: Houston Humane Society Fostering a needy pet is a richly rewarding experience. Our offices are in Clear Lake and the Woodlands area but we have patients all over the Greater Houston Area and Woodlands. The training would be done in our Houston office but the opportunity would be in the Sugarland Area. Due to the nature of the patients’ conditions each volunteer will be required to go through required training to volunteer with our patients. The process to become a volunteer takes a little bit but the rewards of giving your time to these patients is beyond measurable.
