Volunteer: Summer ESL Tutor - Pasadena

The BakerRipley Adult Education ESL tutor plays a key role in helping adult learners improve their English language skills, including reading, writing, listening, and speaking. ESL tutors conduct one-on-one or group tutoring sessions to improve students' English proficiency. Tutors focus on key areas such as grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and conversational English. They also provide support in specific ESL topics like reading comprehension, writing practice, and listening exercises. Tutors assist with language skills necessary for job readiness, civic engagement, and further education.     

What will I do? 

- Help students feel more confident using English 

- Help with speaking and pronunciation 

- Help with listening practices  Assist students with take home curriculum 

- Teach new words 

What’s required of me to be successful in this role? 

- High School Diploma or equivalent degree required. 

-Strong command of English Language, both written and spoken   

-Patience, cultural sensitivity and passion for assisting other with growing their proficiency of the English language 

-Great communication and organizational skills

Schedule:

In-Person tutoring shifts are available at 1:30PM and 4:30 PM, for 1 hour, on Mon/Wed from June 1st - July 31st, 2026.

We need organized, dependable, and friendly volunteers to welcome in our students. Additionally, volunteers help our office connect students and neighbors to the resources they need in the community, easing the stress of getting help. Volunteers gain experience in essential office skills and are provided letters of recommendation upon request.

This is a long-term position, we are looking for people to commit to at least one shift weekly. Shifts are in the morning (8:30AM - 12:30 PM) or afternoon (1:30AM - 5:30 PM) on Mon, Tue, Wed, and Thur.

Responsibilities include greeting guests, answering phone calls, directing inquiries, and providing general administrative support.

Key Responsibilities:

Greet visitors in a friendly and professional manner.Answer and direct phone calls to appropriate programs.Provide basic information about the campus and its services.Ensure visitors go through sign-in station.Perform light admin tasks.Ensure the front desk area is tidy and presentable.Assist staff with special projects when needed.Qualifications and Skills:
Great communication and interpersonal skills.Friendly and welcoming demeanor.Basic computer skills.Prior customer service experience is a plus but not required.Must be at least 14 years of age.Benefits of Volunteering:
