Needs From: Volunteer Houston

CCSC partners with local schools to offer vision screening for students on their campuses. Volunteers who enjoy direct involvement with children and are available on weekday mornings, typically during the fall semester, are needed for this program.

Emergency Services provides food and clothing as well as financial assistance to those in crisis. Volunteers are needed to help greet clients, answer phone inquiries, interview clients, help in the food or clothing pantry, or provide administrative assistance. We especially need bilingual (Spanish / English) volunteers.

JobNet is a place that helps people conduct a more effective and efficient job search. Some clients are looking to improve their skills to get a promotion or a better job. Some are trying to get back in the workforce after being away for some time. Others are trying to learn new skills to change careers. All are trying to improve their lives and themselves.

Volunteers are needed to assist with ESL classes (we have a curriculum and guidance), review resumes, conduct mock interviews, teach computer skills classes in our computer lab, teach soft skills seminars in our classroom, and greet clients at the reception desk.

Emergency Services locations provide food, clothing, hygiene items, and financial assistance to families in need. We need bilingual volunteers to work one day every week, on a weekday, to help answer the phones and schedule financial appointments, interview clients to determine their needs, and provide translation to reception, interviewers, and phone volunteers.

We also need volunteers in our JobNet program. JobNet helps people prepare for and conduct a more efficient and effective job search. We need help greeting clients, answering phones, ensuring clients sign in, scheduling clients for classes or workshops, and sharing information about JobNet.

Our entrepreneurial programs, Martha's Way (residential housekeeping) and Non-medical Home Caregiver, need volunteers to help our clients practice their English skills. We could also use some administrative help with preparing materials and following up with clients.
