Hermann Park’s McGovern Centennial Gardens is seeking volunteers interested in promoting a positive experience among park visitors.  Hermann Park Conservancy invites you to join us in developing a corps of  volunteers to become trained Ambassadors within a beautiful garden setting. The Centennial Gardens span 8 acres with various garden types such as succulents, vegetables, perennials, roses, pine trees, bulbs, as well the three story high mount to walk and sculptures to see!

Volunteers will learn to orient visitors, share garden information and etiquette, greet visiting groups, establish a positive rapport with all visitors and conduct periodic checks of the various gardens. Volunteer shifts for Saturdays and Sundays are 11am to 1pm and 3pm to 5pm (times subject to change). This position is integral to the enjoyment of these beautiful and fragile new gardens.  Please join us in creating a corps of volunteers to help take care of this amazingly beautiful garden.

Do you enjoy teaching others? Do you have a garden topic that you're very passionate about? Come out to the new McGovern Centennial Gardens and lead a workshop to teach others!

Some topic ideas could include: Beekeeping, seed collecting, knowledge about gardening in Houston climate, permaculture, how to build a raised bed, small container gardening, art in the garden, etc.

The Gardens delight visitors with traditional features like a rose garden and new areas to explore such as an interactive family garden, an arid garden, a 30-foot garden mount, and a sculpture promenade featuring public art donated by countries around the world. The new gardens will receive many visitors!

If you're compassionate, fluent in English, and can volunteer a couple times per week, we want YOU to help a small group of Houston adults learn to speak English. Cornerstone Family Resource Center in partnership with The Pointe at Crestmont is sponsoring summer food distribution for children and teens residing in their community.  The Pointe at Crestmont is a low-income, tax credit community that provides reduced rent and social service supports for its residents.   During the summer months children and teens often go without the essential food that they received at school.  We are looking for volunteer groups to conduct food drives of essential items and distribute the food to the residents during the summer months (June, July, August).  The distributions are schedule for the 1st and 3rd Saturday each month however additional days may be added.  Groups may choose one or more days to volunteers.

The ECDC - Houston Multicultural Center is looking for women to volunteer as volleyball and basketball coaches to support our Refugee Health Promotions program. This opportunity is open to anyone with a foundational understanding of these sports, and a willingness to support women learn and play together.

Practice will take place biweekly on Saturdays from 10am - 12pm at the Ashford Pointe apartment complex.

As a Career Conversation Leader, you would lead career conversations on Zoom to help high school and post-secondary students learn about your career. This would be a one-time commitment of maximum 1 hour.

Neighbors are applying to the Agape Affordable Homes Program. The number one barrier we are encountering for neighbors to become homeowners is poor credit scores. If you can motivate and help hold people accountable, this volunteer task is for you! We are in need of a "Credit Coach" to walk alongside one or two neighbors are they seek to make a budget, improve their credit, and increase their savings. You would meet up with them on a biweekly schedule virtually or in-person (your choice)  to check on their progress and offer advice. Neighbors may need help crafting a budget or setting goals.

Agape Development is a community ministry. Our mission is to transform our neighborhood by preparing Christ-following, independent community leaders. We accomplish this through a variety of programs: K-5 after-school program, youth ministry shaved ice business, K-12 summer day camps, discipleship houses for young adults, women’s ministry, small businesses employing second chance residents, and affordable housing development.

We have gone through a rebranding process for our primary entity (Agape Development). Logos/icons are needed for our subbrands and housing initiatives that flow with our branding.

Agape Development serves the OST/South Union neighborhood. And most people ask "Where is that?". We are looking for a volunteer with access to and experience with mapping software so that we can better illustrate the area we focus on. 

We are looking for a volunteer to help us set up digital signage on the tv in our lobby. We would like it to show photos and important announcements using an app to update. Volunteer will provide us with options for apps and help us get it set up.

The Agape Homes Program exists to preserve affordability and create a pathway to homeownership for neighbors in OST/South Union who otherwise could not afford to remain in this gentrifying community. Agape Development will be building duplexes in the neighborhood as a part of the Agape Homes Program. We have the architectural drawings in CAD and need renderings created that will represent the final product.

If it concerns the rights of diverse religious, cultural, racial, or LGBTQ communities, it is essential to have a dialog and find ways to address such critical issues. We can't give just a statement because the time requires it but should be able to openly discuss difficult issues such as Social Justice and serve as a platform to provide healthy ways to address our community's and societies' issues. 

As part of a beautiful and diverse community, we wish to allow everyone to voice their feelings of structural injustice. Today's technological development and possibilities of communication should be used to build a healthy public. We wish to help our growing community with creative methods to process these difficult subjects that are finally openly addressed.

TERJA hosts monthly workshops in the Houston community focused on Menstrual Health for girls and young women. These workshops address crucial topics, including menstrual health equity, period poverty, sustainable solutions, and breaking the silence, shame, and stigma associated with menstruation. Participants watch videos and listen to stories from girls and young women in Kenya who are combating period poverty by creating reusable sanitary pads using local materials. The workshops include discussions on TERJA’s reusable sanitary pads, which are made from organic, biodegradable materials, and explore how sustainable, eco-friendly solutions can help alleviate period poverty. A local tailor will demonstrate how to create reusable pads and underwear using both sewing machines and traditional hand sewing techniques. Following the demonstration, attendees participate in hands-on activities, where they create their own reusable pads, underwear, and bags, with ongoing support provided. We are seeking volunteers to serve as facilitators during these workshops.

Volunteers will be required to attend an orientation and training session before the first workshop. Your involvement will be instrumental in empowering girls and young women through education and practical skills.   

Agape Development has an elderly neighbor who is interested in being a part of the housing program. She has yet to file taxes from 2018 and 2019 as well as has other financial barriers to homeownership in place. She needs your help to clear these barriers and become a homeowner!

The goal of the afterschool program is to provide K-5th grade children with appropriate, nurturing, and consistent adult attention in a structured and engaging environment.

This is weekly commitment. We are looking for volunteers to be reading assistants on either Tuesday or Thursday from 4:00-5:30. We will provide training so that you are prepared. Some of that time will be helping the children complete their homework in small groups, some of the time will be working either one-on-one or in small groups (2-4 children) on literacy activities. This could be a game, writing a poem or story, reading, or some other activity.

Agape Homes CDC creates quality affordable housing for diverse communities without concentrating poverty. The Agape Homes CDC goal is to give the families in the Agape Development community an affordable option to own a home. Sponsoring the landscaping and providing the necessary labor to install the landscape items helps keep the cost of the homes at an affordable level while also creating a welcoming space for our new homeowners.

This sponsorship opportunity covers the expenses of all landscape items: trees, sod, bushes, dirt, and mulch. All supplies will be ordered and onsite for your group to complete installation! This project of landscaping one home is best for 5-7 people but can accommodate up to 10. It is estimated to take approximately 3 hours, depending on the speed of your team.

The cost of this sponsorship is $5,000 per home with no limitation on how many homes you can sponsor as they become available and ready for sponsorship.

Our Women's Ministry meets on Monday evenings for a time of fellowship and fun activities. 

Join the group on a second Monday of the month to lead them in a fun fitness activity from 7:00-8:00pm.

Open Gate has remained open during this pandemic, but we’ve had to change how we are serving our homeless youth.  We are unable to serve sit down meals as we used to, but we continue to serve nutritious meals on Sundays from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM on a carry out/to-go basis. 

During the height of the lockdown when many of our youth were locked into shelters, we continued to serve about 25 meals each Sunday to the truly homeless.  We are now averaging about 45 to-go meals served each of the last three or four Sundays.  We are observing social distancing by limiting the number of youth allowed inside at a time, scanning them for fever with a non-contact thermometer prior to entry, and providing fresh socks and underwear in addition to the meal.  No one is allowed to remain inside.  While the clothing closet is not officially open, we do provide shirts and trousers where desperately needed.  We also offer masks, hand sanitizer in small bottles, hygiene packs, and plenty of cold water bottles to help beat the heat. 

We are offering these services to the youth with a minimum number of volunteers (4 to 5 max) to maximize social distancing protection for the volunteers and the participants.  While we realize that many volunteers are being socially responsible and staying home, if you’d like to volunteer, we’d love to see you on a Sunday.  We also occasionally have opportunities to volunteer on a Saturday or during the week when only volunteers would be present. 

We are looking for volunteers from 2:00PM to 5:30PM a couple/few Sundays a month. Come visit Open Gate Homeless Ministry for 18 to 30 years of age.

We work with homeless young adults between the ages of 18-30. We provide clothing, a home cooked meal, resources to the community and their needs at the time.

We are looking for volunteers to help out in the kitchen preparing the meal, cleaning dishes, greeting our youths, helping our youths in the clothing room, visiting with them at the table, No Experience is needed to volunteer with our wonderful team and our youths.

We are looking for volunteers to help out in the kitchen preparing the meal, cleaning dishes, greeting our youths, helping our youths in the clothing room, visiting with them at the table, No Experience is needed to volunteer with our wonderful team and our youths.

Too Hype Teen Night is a discipleship program for young teens in our neighborhood to gain a better understanding of the Bible and how it applies to their lives.  One night a week, we have a time for these teens to gather in a youth group environment where they spend time eating, fellowshipping, worshiping, discussing hot topics, and digging into the Word together.  THTN also provides monthly field trips and other events for the teens to bond together and have fun.

Too Hype Teen Night Volunteer - Minimum twice a month thru May 2016 - Thursdays - 6:00-8:00pm - Teens - Come for food, fellowship, worship, spiritual lesson, and fun at our youth night. Fellowship (and eat if you want!) with teens during dinner, engage in activities, help “keep the peace” during worship and the talk time, and build relationships with our amazing teenagers.

Agape Development has purchased several lots within our neighborhood to be used for future development. Help us keep these lots clear by mowing twice a month. Must provide mowing equipment. 

Agape Development needs someone who knows the tricks of excel. Our first project is to create worksheets that when updated will automatically update on another worksheet.

Several young adult in the neighborhood are working toward getting their driver's license. Commit to working with an adult to complete their mandatory driving hours. 

Help young people aging out of foster care successfully step into adulthood. As a Transition Coach, you’ll mentor and guide youth (ages 14+) as they create transition plans, explore education and career options, and build the skills they need for independence.

A caring adult can make all the difference for a youth who may not have consistent support. By meeting once a week, you can help them set goals, stay motivated, and navigate life’s next steps.

Minds Matter Houston is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that helps top-performing high school students from low-income backgrounds reach their dreams of getting into college. Average student GPA is at least 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale). 90% of students are 1st generation college students.

Our Volunteer Docent Program is a volunteer level that can be reached by individuals that are interested in having a more autonomous experience representing the Arboretum and our missions. All Docent activities require onboarding, additional trainings, training time as a 'Shadow' to learn from current Docents and Arboretum Staff, and a commitment of at least 20 Docent specific volunteer hours a year. Examples of Docent opportunities include working as Guide for our Field Trip Experiences, leading guided nature hikes, leading night hikes, outreach, and more.

This is an ongoing opportunity that would require you onboarding as an Arboretum Volunteer and signing up for opportunities through our own volunteer portal.

The Sponsorship Subcommittee is responsible for identifying opportunities to engage the business community in the mission of the Alzheimer’s Association by sponsoring the Walk to End Alzheimer’s.

·         Solicit new walk sponsors

·         Strengthen relationship with existing sponsors

·         Ensure all sponsorship benefits have been fulfilled throughout the year

·         Provide an exceptional experience for our sponsors on Walk Day

The Team Recruitment Subcommittee will be responsible for recruitment of new Walk teams through the Corporate Team Kickoff event. This committee will recruit new teams from all sectors of the community with a focus on Corporate Teams and provide fundraising guidance to new Team Captains.

·         Plan and execute a successful Corporate Team Kickoff two months prior to Walk Day

·         Recruit table hosts for the Corporate Team Kickoff from all sectors of the community

·         Coach table hosts to fill a table of 8-10 people at the Kickoff with prospective team captains within their network

The Team Retention Subcommittee will be responsible for retaining prior Walk teams. This committee will work year-round on team retention strategies including planning and executing the Past Team Registration Event and Walk Celebration Party.

The Marketing and Outreach Subcommittee is responsible for creating awareness of the disease through the promotion of Walk to End Alzheimer’s.

·         Seek and seize creative, grassroots marketing opportunities

The AIM-Advocacy Subcommittee is responsible for recruiting new AIM members and advocates from all sectors of the community.

·         Recruit 50% of the Walk Planning Committee to join AIM

·         Participate in AIM’s “Power or 10” Challenge

·         Recruit advocates and AIM members on Walk Day

The Logistics Subcommittee is responsible for ensuring all event day components are well-planned and that participants have an excellent event experience at Walk to End Alzheimer’s, from the parking lot to the finish line. 

·         Designing and planning event festivities area, start/finish line area and Walk route

·         Coordinating the stage program and event entertainment

·         Recruiting, training and managing event day volunteers

Personal Attributes: great attention to detail, excellent project and time management skills, the ability to creatively solve problems and can remain calm and collected under pressure.

Upcoming Animeals on Wheels Training:

The Animeals on Wheels program was founded so that homebound clients on Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston’s Meals on Wheels for Greater Houston program would not feel compelled to share their limited food and resources with their four-legged friends. Thanks to partnerships with other non-profit organizations, we can assist our Meals on Wheels clients with receiving much needed veterinary services (such as vaccinations and spay/neutering).

Volunteers are needed to make monthly deliveries of pet food, adopt a senior and their pet(s), host pet food drives, assist with inventorying donations and organizing the Animeals pets, food room, repackage pet food donations, pick up donations of pet food throughout the community and represent Animeals at special events

TWST4GIRLS is interviewing potential mentors for youth girls ages 11-17. You will work with youth from diverse backgrounds, including underserved communities or working-class families.
