Some topic ideas could include: Beekeeping, seed collecting, knowledge about gardening in Houston climate, permaculture, how to build a raised bed, small container gardening, art in the garden, etc.

The Gardens delight visitors with traditional features like a rose garden and new areas to explore such as an interactive family garden, an arid garden, a 30-foot garden mount, and a sculpture promenade featuring public art donated by countries around the world. Currently, we are looking for a full or part-time volunteer grant writer with experience and exceptional writing skills. In addition to writing and submitting grants, this includes searching and identifying potential sources for grants that match our organizations mission.

Currently, we are looking for a full or part-time web design/development individual with experience in word press and exceptionally creative in web design and development. In addition to designing to match our organizations mission. 

We need help transporting puppies and dogs to and from adoption events on some weekends and also to & from vet appointments and shelter pick up during the week.

Larger vehicles - Full to mid-size SUVs or trucks are needed for weekend adoption events. Smaller vehicles are ok for vet drop off and pick up and shelter pick up.

Weekend adoption events:                                                                                                                                                   Pets need to be picked up at one location in the Missouri City area and transported to the Katy PetSmarts.  They also need to be picked up at the end of the day and transported back to the Missouri City location. Pets will be in transport crates for weekend adoptions and vet drop off and pick up. Volunteers need to be 18 or older.

MAM is inviting volunteers to become an ESL Teacher Assistant! We have opportunities for individuals who are outgoing, friendly and want to make a difference in the life of others.  Our spring 2015 ESL Program starts on Jan. 19th and ends on April 16th. Class times and locations vary with several opportunities to choose from. Volunteer Assistants will work with a teacher to provide the most help for our students.  We have morning, afternoon and evening classes available. Classes are held at MAM and other locations around the Spring Branch area.  All of the training, materials and support are provided to our volunteers from trained ESL Staff.  You do NOT have to be bilingual to teach ESL!

WHO: Veteran/Military members and/or Veteran/Military Families are needed to become Volunteer Leaders in their communities.  For those who want to be Volunteer Leaders for this project (need 8 veterans/military families) will have the opportunity to engage young servant leaders and promote service as a path to leadership. This will also be the time to recognize military children for their sacrifices. These Volunteer Leaders will work together to address a community need how to develop a project, how to get people to help you, and how to keep that help amongst other things for 8 weeks (1 hour a week of your time).  By the time you complete your project at the end of the program, you will be trained service leaders.

However, the CEC has not executed a coordinated, year-end solicitation from individual donors for several years. Volunteers work directly with news veteran Emily Akin.  Ms. Akin has been helping Houstonians solve their consumer issues for 20 years.

Music Therapy Volunteer: Provide music therapy to patients and families.

Pet Therapy Volunteer: Provide friendly visits to patients/families with your pet therapy dog (or other pet).

Entertainment Volunteer: Provide musical and/or vocal entertainment to patients and families.

Hospitality Volunteer: Plan events to ensure maximum hospitality for patients, families and visitors via afternoon tea, restaurant nights, art therapy, music therapy, and speaking engagements.

Landscape Volunteer: Oversee ongoing maintenance of exterior gardens and landscaping.

Life Celebration Volunteer: Celebrate the life of patients through remembrance activities, like recording stories and presenting families with a CD.

Art Therapy Volunteer: Patients and families explore their creative side and express their feelings through the visual arts.

Home Visitors are volunteers who provide assistance doing sight dependent tasks such as grocery shopping and mail reading to clients who are blind or visually impaired. Volunteers in all Lighthouse of Houston opportunities provide companionship while maximizing independence.

Home visitors are volunteers who assist clients who are blind and visually impaired complete sight dependent tasks such as grocery shopping and mail reading. Time commitment is 2 to 3 times a month.

PAIR’s Global Leaders is a weekly program for high school aged refugee students. Mentors help students explore a variety of topics, including careers, post-high school education and vocational options, academic planning, SAT preparation, college essay writing, community service, job interview skills, and resume writing. Students develop personal goals and educational plans, participate in community-building projects, and develop leadership skills. Global Leaders works to increase students’ understanding of career options and the value of higher education. Volunteer mentors will engage students in a lesson or activity, help students work homework, or provide assistance as students apply to colleges.

Volunteering with the Leaders program requires a semester-long commitment of 10 program sessions.

PAIR operates Global Learners programs in three middle schools with significant refugee populations. PAIR volunteer mentors engage students by providing supportive relationships, homework assistance, English language practice, and recreational and creative activities.

Sessions take place after school, 4-6PM. Each session begins with outside games, homework help, and sharing time to transition from the school day. Mentors then break off with a small group of students to work on a lesson or activity centered around a particular theme. Global Learners assists participants in developing more positive attitudes towards school, achieving greater academic success, developing more positive relationships with peers and adults, and continuing their education through high school and beyond.

Volunteering with the Learners program requires a semester-long commitment of 10 program sessions.

Hermann Park Conservancy's new McGovern Centennial Gardens is now open! The Gardens delight visitors with traditional features like a rose garden, and new areas to explore such as an interactive family garden, an arid garden, a 30-foot garden mount, and a sculpture promenade featuring public art donated by countries around the world. The new gardens will receive many visitors! Assist park staff in making sure their visit is enjoyable for all as well helping to maintain Hermann Park to a high standard.

Rose Volunteers: volunteers that wish to work in the rose garden will receive training on how to deadhead and prune roses. Deadheading roses is an "evergreen" task- one that always needs attention. Once you receive training, you will be able to come in during garden hours from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

*It's okay if you need to leave early, and you don't need to attend every week.

We would like to create a “brochure” of volunteer projects available at local schools that would be provided to corporations. When corporations seek to engage their employees in days of service, we will match them with a school and a project. We already have a brochure of volunteer projects available at local non-profits, so this is an extension of an existing program.

Volunteers will assist with developing project prototypes, school recruitment, and making the program brochure once we had a list of schools and projects. We aim to start immediately.
