When corporations seek to engage their employees in days of service, we will match them with a school and a project. We already have a brochure of volunteer projects available at local non-profits, so this is an extension of an existing program.

Volunteers will assist with developing project prototypes, school recruitment, and making the program brochure once we had a list of schools and projects. We aim to start immediately.

If you are interested, please email rafaym@volunteerhouston.org.

Volunteer: Graphic Designer!

At Volunteer Houston, we are in the process of creating an Annual Report. We will recap the year by including how impactful stats via our programs and events. As part of this process, we need to design a few logos, and are seeking a graphic designer to execute the designs (and provide ideas if they would like).

This volunteer opportunity can be done remotely, although volunteers are more than welcome to work in our office and use a Mac desktop we recently purchased. We would love to have a few logos put together in the next few weeks.

They need and want someone to share their final days with and we want people with a nurturing nature to give them that most basic of needs, human contact. * Girl Connect volunteers are required to attend a virtual Direct Service Volunteer Training (trainings for the 2022-23 school year are available in July, August, and September).
* volunteers are assigned to a specific school in Houston and will be required to commit to the same time and day every week for the entirety of the semester.
* Girls Empowerment Network prefers that volunteers make a two-semester minimum commitment. Consistency is key for the girls we serve and we want to ensure that volunteers are able to commit to our programs and the girls they work with.

* we anticipate that Fall 2022 semester programming will begin in late August/early-mid September.

If you are interested/available to volunteer in-person each week with our Girl Connect program, please fill out this form!

Volunteer: Foster

Fostering a needy pet is a richly rewarding experience.  It's also an emotional, often difficult experience that isn't for everyone - but for those that can do it, it's an experience that won't soon be forgotten.  Houston Humane Society is always in desperate need of foster families, especially right now.  First, let's talk about what kinds of pets may need foster care: Sick and injured pets - Because HHS is an open admission shelter, meaning we do not turn away any animal, we often take in animals that are too sick to go up for adoption.  Some of them need a quiet place to recover as well as some additional care. Too young! - HHS often takes in animals that are simply too young, or may even still be nursing.  Sometimes they just need a couple of weeks, while others may need a few months. Behavior - Often an animal that has been neglected or may be too timid needs a couple of weeks with a foster to learn that being with people can be a good thing.  Sometimes pets at the shelter just need a break, and a foster home can give them a quiet place to de-stress.

We provide the medical care, you provide the loving home. We will work with you on what kinds of animals you can care for and your schedule.

Volunteer: Caring Volunteers needed for Hospice Patients in the Meadows Place Area

Volunteers are needed to spend time with our hospice patients.

We at Encompass are looking for compassionate, patience, loving volunteers to spend time with our patients. They need and want someone to share their final days with and we want people with a nurturing nature to give them that most basic of needs, human contact. You would spend time with the patients talking, listening, playing games or anything the patient would want or possibly need.

Our offices are in Clear Lake and the Woodlands area but we have patients all over the Greater Houston Area and Woodlands. The training would be done in our Houston office but the opportunity would be in the Meadows Place Area.

Due to the nature of the patients’ conditions each volunteer will be required to go through required training to volunteer with our patients. The process to become a volunteer takes a little bit but the rewards of giving your time to these patients is beyond measurable. You can give these people a final dignity in their darkest hour. Thank you.

Volunteer: Men Needed To Share Their Opinions Virtually

A Call to Men: Are you looking for a way to engage in the fight against human trafficking? Do you want to explore what defines male masculinity, healthy relationships, and violence prevention?

UAHT has launched a virtual Men’s Accountability Discussion Group to end the demand for sex trafficking and is looking for male participants. The group will use the Stopping Sexual Exploitation: A Program For Men (SSE) curriculum, a non-judgmental program based on principles of social justice and personal transformation. The curriculum -- and discussion group -- explore several topics like the harms of sexual exploitation, power and violence and is open to all men.

UAHT is looking for a total of 12 men to virtually participate in two separate groups -- 6 men per group -- for 10 weeks.

One group will start Tuesday, May 4, and the second group will begin Thursday, June 3.
The time commitment will be evenings from 6 to 9 p.m.

Here's what previous participants had to say about the program:

“Amazing facilitators, impassioned [participants], and worthwhile and thought-provoking knowledge learned/shared!”

“It provides a wealth of knowledge and resources for EVERYONE -- an ally or victim."

If you’re interested in participating in these crucial discussions, please sign up by May 3.

PLEASE NOTE: This program does NOT require that volunteers have considered or purchased sex or engaged in sex trafficking. It is your personal insights and opinions on the subject of exploitation that we seek.

Upcoming SSE Schedule

May Cohort: Starts Tuesday, May 4, and Ends Tuesday, July 6

June Cohort: Starts Thursday, June 3, and Ends Thursday, Aug. 5

Volunteer: Help Caption Anti-Human Trafficking Videos

In 2020, United Against Human Trafficking took its fight against sex and labor trafficking virtual, and now we have an amazing library of anti-trafficking materials that begs for the wider audience that captioning provides.

We're seeking volunteers to caption our Outreach and Education videos in English, and at least one volunteer to handle our videos in Spanish. Most of the heavy work will be done by a captioning app, but volunteers with keen ears and an high-level attention to detail will make sure the captions are as accurate as possible.

If you have experience transcribing audio recordings or video editing -- or if you're someone who just knows they're capable of doing the job well -- this may be perfect for you!

Volunteer: Join Our Volunteer Outreach Team

Become part of our completely volunteer-based outreach in high human-trafficking areas! This outreach is crucial to reaching trafficking victims and sharing the Human Trafficking National Hotline in places away from their captors or employers.

Key Responsibilities include:

-- Speaking to businesses on behalf of UAHT and victims on Saturdays as your schedule permits.

-- Displaying the National Human Trafficking Hotline number in restrooms, back offices, kitchens, and storefronts -- places away from victims' captors and/or employers.

-- Entering data after each outreach activity is completed.

All volunteers who want to become part of the Volunteer Outreach Team must complete the orientation and training. (This is separate from the Volunteer Orientation that every volunteer must attend.)

Volunteer Outreach Orientation will cover the key duties, processes, script, impact, and time commitment needed to confidently speak to businesses on behalf of UAHT and trafficking victims.

If weather permits, orientation and training will take place outdoors in a park setting, and when weather doesn't permit, we'll meet in an accommodating coffee shop.

After the Orientation and Training presentation, we will drive to nearby businesses, and each participant will get to train with an experienced volunteer who will share their knowledge of the process.

Volunteer: Host Red Sand Project to Raise Trafficking Awareness

Human trafficking occurs every day in our own communities. This crime continues to grow in the shadows of our society, and is one of the largest criminal industries in the world.

Victims of trafficking are subjected to force, fraud, or coercion for the purposes of sexual exploitation and/or forced labor.

Participants in Red Sand Projects fill cracks in sidewalks with red sand, a symbolic gesture that represents those individuals who fall through the cracks -- whether the cracks of our social, economic, and political systems or those of our personal consciousness.

We at UAHT want to highlight and remember the human trafficking victims who fall through those cracks in the greater Houston area, the very ones we make an effort each day to reach and help.

Our Red Sand Projects are meant to be volunteer-led and community-wide events, so if you'd like to host a project of your own -- whether it's in your neighborhood, your favorite park, your church, or an other public setting you'd like -- we strongly encourage you to do so!

Host a project with your friends and family or a school, community or social group!

Will you join us and host your own project?

We'll provide the red sand and flyers to hand out to passerby! (And if you want additional volunteer help with your project, we'll make every effort to provide it!)

The upcoming 53rd Annual WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival (April 17 - 26, 2020) has just TWO remaining opening for full-time staff volunteer Interns to assist in the planning, preparation and presentation of the upcoming 52nd Annual Film Festival.

Our offices are located in SW Houston near The SW Freeway and Bissonnet. This is an International Film Festival, but realistically the jobs are "Office Jobs" - and do require some office and computer experience. We are a Mon-Fri - 10am to 6pm office hours...

We discovered Spielberg, George Lucas, Ang Lee, Ridley Scott, The Coen Brothers and John Lee Hancock, among others... be part of an event that discovers genius and helps lives and careers, WorldFest! See movies every day at lunch!

The Intern opening is from now to May 15 2020, when the festival is wrapped up. We accept both Full-Time staff volunteer Interns (a 5-day week, 10am to 6pm), and Adopt A Day Interns, where you may select one or more days a week to volunteer. Festival Treat Staff Luncheon treat every Friday, and you can view film entries throughout the week. Great team working conditions, private offices, free and safe parking. We have a Keurig with free coffee & tea, snacks, fridge, microwave, bottled water for staff.

All Volunteer Interns earn two VIP Gold All Festival Passes ($1,000 value), plus Premiere Passes for your friends. In addition, a one year membership in the Houston Film Society, which give you free new movies all year long, with reserved seating! All Festival screenings are held at the Cinemark Theatres, Memorial City, during the ten-day Film Festival. Most of the films are introduced by their directors. We have more than 7 VP's in Hollywood, and they all got their job contacts while Interning at WorldFest. (Six of them are Women!).
