Volunteers are needed to assist the patients, their guest and the staff in the Cardiovascular, Intensive Care, General Surgery, and Ambulatory Surgery waiting areas of the hospital. Duties include greeting patients and their guest upon arrival, assisting with family visits to patients both pre-op and post-op, extending moral support to patients, loved ones, and generally serving as a liaison between the waiting and patient care areas

Weekly four-hour shifts are available between 7 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on weekdays or weekends

Volunteers are needed in the Emergency Department to assist patients, their families and staff: Some of the duties this position performs:

Gain valuable experience in a classroom setting through an internship with our ESL Program at MAM.  This is perfect for college students looking to gain experience in a classroom setting for school or resume building.  You do not need to be bilingual for this internship.

The ESL Internship is a non-paid position.  It is approx. 10-15 hours per week at MAM during the day hours and 2 evenings a week at our off-site class locations.  The hours during the day are flexible around your schedule. The evening hours are Tuesday and Thursdays from 6 PM- 9 PM.  

The intern will work to help our ESL Department reach new levels of design and function while they gain valuable on-the-job education and management experience.  As an intern, you will learn the operations and daily functions of an ESL and Citizenship program that supports immigrants and refugees in our community.  You will also learn how a nonprofit organization works to support the community and the plethora of programs we provide.

•Interns will have the opportunity to work in marketing with a focus on social media.

•Interns will be asked to assist staff with site management including but not limited to:  student registration, student retention, development of class curriculum, entry/exit assessments, end of semester celebrations.

•Interns will help supervise, schedule, and assist ESL/Citizenship/Tutoring volunteers in day to day site operations.

 The Volunteer Services department at Baylor St Luke's Medical Center is searching for compassionate, caring, friendly and reliable volunteers to become Volunteer Patient Companions.

 The Volunteer Patient Companion (VPC) Program is about improving the care, health and wellbeing of patients. VPCs will provide one-on-one time with patients.  As a volunteer you may read, talk, play games, or just provide companionship to a patient.   VPCs will be a valuable resource to many families that are unable to take time off to be in the hospital with family members who are patients. The VPCs is a member of the health care team who works under the direct supervision of an RN.  The VPC may provide assistance in transporting and transferring patients.

Hermann Park’s McGovern Centennial Gardens is seeking volunteers interested in promoting a positive experience among park visitors.  Hermann Park Conservancy invites you to join us in developing a corps of  volunteers to become trained Ambassadors within a beautiful garden setting. The Centennial Gardens span 8 acres with various garden types such as succulents, vegetables, perennials, roses, pine trees, bulbs, as well the three story high mount to walk and sculptures to see!

Volunteers will learn to orient visitors, share garden information and etiquette, greet visiting groups, establish a positive rapport with all visitors and conduct periodic checks of the various gardens. Volunteer shifts for Saturdays and Sundays are 11am to 1pm and 3pm to 5pm (times subject to change). This position is integral to the enjoyment of these beautiful and fragile new gardens.  Please join us in creating a corps of volunteers to help take care of this amazingly beautiful garden.

Too Hype Teen Night is a discipleship program for young teens in our neighborhood to gain a better understanding of the Bible and how it applies to their lives.  One night a week, we have a time for these teens to gather in a youth group environment where they spend time eating, fellowshipping, worshiping, discussing hot topics, and digging into the Word together.  THTN also provides monthly field trips and other events for the teens to bond together and have fun.

Too Hype Teen Night Volunteer - Minimum twice a month thru May 2016 - Thursdays - 6:00-8:00pm - Teens - Come for food, fellowship, worship, spiritual lesson, and fun at our youth night. Fellowship (and eat if you want!) with teens during dinner, engage in activities, help “keep the peace” during worship and the talk time, and build relationships with our amazing teenagers.

Help make our House a Home!  Ronald McDonald House - Holcombe House is a 70 bedroom, free-standing House available for stay to families with seriously ill children being treated in the Texas Medical Center. 

Two Volunteer Positions Available:

1. House Warmer – Create a warm, homelike culture throughout the House by serving and engaging with our residents. Volunteers serving in this position will primarily be up and moving throughout the House during the shift completing tasks such as:
- Provide a listening ear and visit informally with family members in common areas
- Assist family members and group volunteers with loading/unloading belongings
- Sharing our mission by providing tours to visitors and group volunteers
- Restocking snacks, making coffee, and helping our community kitchen stay organized and clean for our families

2. House Concierge – Give family members and visitors an awesome first impression of the House by providing a warm welcome! Volunteers in this position will be primarily stationed at the front desk, assisting the manager-on-duty, welcoming and sharing information with our families and visitors. Volunteers will provide information and resources to guests and visitors by completing tasks such as:
- answering the phone and giving needed information about RMH, transferring calls as necessary
- welcoming and signing-in group volunteers
- assisting House Manager with clerical work
- assisting with occasional administrative projects from other departments
- selling merchandise
- paging to make House announcements
- welcoming visitors for meetings with staff, communicating with staff members about their arrival
- assisting with shuttle sign-up
- giving directions and sharing information on nearby resources

Holcombe House Volunteers make a 3 month commitment in our "Fast Track" or a 6 month commitment to serve in our "Traditional" track. Volunteer opportunities are available from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. seven days a week. Shifts are scheduled in 3 hour time blocks.

MAM is inviting volunteers to become an ESL Teacher Assistant! We have opportunities for individuals who are outgoing, friendly and want to make a difference in the life of others.  Our spring 2015 ESL Program starts on Jan. 19th and ends on April 16th. Class times and locations vary with several opportunities to choose from. Volunteer Assistants will work with a teacher to provide the most help for our students.  We have morning, afternoon and evening classes available. WHO: Veteran/Military members and/or Veteran/Military Families are needed to become Volunteer Leaders in their communities.  For those who want to be Volunteer Leaders for this project (need 8 veterans/military families) will have the opportunity to engage young servant leaders and promote service as a path to leadership. This will also be the time to recognize military children for their sacrifices. These Volunteer Leaders will work together to address a community need how to develop a project, how to get people to help you, and how to keep that help amongst other things for 8 weeks (1 hour a week of your time).  By the time you complete your project at the end of the program, you will be trained service leaders. 

Also need volunteers to assist with this service project. 

WHAT: Month of the Military Child, Operation "Blankie" will make/sew blankets with their service member/s photos sewn on them for the military children. The CEC would like to expand or improve its existing programs to better meet the needs of the environmental community. However, the CEC has not executed a coordinated, year-end solicitation from individual donors for several years. Annual strategic planning by the board has identified an annual fund drive as a critical task for CEC in 2015, and the intern will be essential to the implementation of this effort.

With well over 100 organizations represented in the current guide, and a growing audience for the information, the CEC would like to create a version of the resource guide specifically for the educational setting. The audience will be school teachers, informal environmental educators, and afterschool programs.

Unfortunately, it is often difficult for nonprofits—especially small nonprofits—to keep tabs on all relevant activity. The Government Relations Intern’s job will be to track the environmental activities of one or more governing or administrative agencies and provide reports of both actions and opportunities to provide input.

The CEC would like to produce two series of articles about the environmental issues being addressed by its member communities. One series is intended for publication in the weekly newsletter. The other series will form the basis for an online library of articles for use in homeowner association newsletters and similar publications.

If you have photography skills and want to help the CEC document some of our fantastic events, we need your help! We will contact you with upcoming event dates which could use your skills and you can sign up to photograph as many as you want.

Volunteer Houston is seeking volunteers to help us deal with daily inquiries from volunteers and the agencies that we work with. We receive several phone calls every day from volunteers and non-profits in the Houston area, and we need some assistance dealing with those calls. This is an opportunity to work in an office environment and interact with non-profits and individuals across the Houston area. 

We are seeking help during typical business hours (sometime between 9am - 4pm) Monday-Friday. If you can help at all, even for a few hours a week, please let us know!

Red Cross is following up with our neighbors that have been affected by the recent disasters and we are in need of a handful of Spanish Translators to sit with a current caseworker and help with the communication between parties.

We need 5 gardeners needed to help maintain our community garden at our Acres Homes Multi Service center every Wed, from 9am -11am.  

Volunteers are free to take home the harvest.

Volunteer Houston has recently launched a Google AdWords search marketing campaign using funds provided by a grant from Google. The grant provides us with $10,000 per month to spend on AdWords advertising. 

We are seeking a volunteer with knowledge of PPC advertising to help us optimize this campaign by providing one-time guidance or actively contributing to the management of the campaign. Commitment level is entirely up to the volunteer. 

The CEC recently created and began implementing a volunteer program that would benefit from the help of a volunteer who can continue to strengthen and improve the program. The volunteer coordinator would be responsible for the following:
