Volunteer: The Empty Shelter Project ~ Splendora Event

More information and sign-up at: https://tinyurl.com/TESP-JuneVol

On Saturday, June 6, The Empty Shelter Project will provide FREE high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter surgeries, vaccinations, and microchips to more than 550 pets whose owners live in selected Zip Codes near our event area in Splendora at the Splendora High School. Not only does this improve pets' health, but it also helps us tackle our community's significant pet overpopulation issue, preventing births and keeping unwanted pets out of shelters and off the streets.

Volunteers are needed to help set up on the afternoon of Friday, June 5 and to work a variety of positions on Saturday, June 6. Animal handling roles take place on Saturday throughout the day and require volunteers who are 18 and older, including positions such as: Animal Runners (escorting pets to surgery rooms), Dog Recovery (post-op support), Dog Kennel (cleaning kennels and monitoring pets), Dog Transport (carrying dogs to and from surgery), and Cat Scribe (taking cats through the surgical journey), all require volunteers to be at least 18 years old, no exceptions.

Volunteers who prefer not to handle animals have many roles to choose from, such as greeting, pack washing, hospitality, merchandise sales, volunteer check-in, and more. We always need volunteers to help set up on Friday afternoon and breakdown/clean on Saturday afternoon, and these roles can be filled by anyone 16 and older!

All volunteers must provide an email address to register and must sign a waiver. Those under 18 must also have a parent or guardian sign.

Get more information and sign up at https://tinyrul.com/TESP-JuneVol

NOTE: PET APPOINTMENTS ARE BASED ON ZIP CODE, AND VOLUNTEERS CAN ONLY BRING PETS IF THEY LIVE WITHIN THE SELECTED ZIP CODE. VOLUNTEERS CANNOT DROP OFF PETS EARLY OR LATE, HOVER NEAR PETS, OR PICK PETS UP EARLY.

Volunteer: Love Cats? Volunteer for the Kitty Condo Krewe!

If you are a cat lover, volunteer to help our beloved furry friends.  In LCPA's Kitty Condo Krewe program, cats and kittens ready for adoption are shown and adopted seven days a week in “condos” at 6 area pet supply stores in League City, Clear Lake and Kemah.  As a volunteer of the Kitty Condo Krewe, you sign up to love and play with the kitties, feed them, and clean the condo units.  It only takes about an hour, and it means the world to the cats and kittens who are waiting to be adopted into wonderful homes.

All that’s required is a one-hour hands-on training, after which you can sign up when you have a bit of time.  You can sign up for a morning shift or a late afternoon/evening shift (arrival times are flexible).  Volunteer qualifications:  Must love cats and kittens, be at least 16, dependable, have reliable transportation, and want to help cats and kittens stay healthy and get adopted into loving, forever homes.  Men, women, couples, retired seniors, teenagers, child (age 9+)/parent teams are all welcome to volunteer.

We ask that you volunteer a minimum of two times a month. That’s just 2 hours (2 shifts) a month! And commit to volunteering for at least 3 months.

For more information, go to www.LeagueCityPetsAlive.org/Volunteer.  Please note that if you live more than 10 miles from the closest store in League City, Clear Lake or Kemah, consider volunteering for a rescue closer to you. Stop by the kitty condos at your nearest pet supply store, and they will likely have an ad posted for volunteers. Together, we all can help homeless cats and kittens find their purrfect adopters!

When you volunteer for the KCK: You get to love on cats, give back, and SAVE LIVES!

For the quickest response, apply at www.leaguecity.com/kittycondo

Volunteer: Dog Behavior & Enrichment Volunteers

At Friends For Life, every animal matters. Founded in 2002, Friends For Life introduced the first no-kill shelter model to Houston – saving animals regardless of their breed, age or condition.

Houston-grown, we’re here to help our neighbors care for the pets they love.

We’re not finished until every animal has a safe home. Until then, we’ll be innovating, improving and tracking results to find the most effective ways to save lives.

As a dog behavior volunteer, you will work hand-in-hand with our behavior staff and learn how to work with the dogs in our program.  The dogs that live at the shelter are dogs that we have not been able to get out into a foster home due to reactivity that needs to be managed. This could include an array of behaviors. Maybe they're afraid of other dogs, or scared of loud trucks outside. We will fully train you on dog body language, enrichment, and reactivity so you are able to safely work with these dogs to help rehabilitate them and in turn find their forever homes! This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity that other shelters don't offer. If you truly love dogs and want to learn more about how to care for them, this opportunity is for you!

As a dog behavior volunteer, you will help provide various enrichment needs to our dogs (think kongs and nose work!). Enrichment volunteers are essential to help improve the daily lives of our dogs at the shelter.* Our Behavior volunteer program is a five-step program, and you'll start out as a BV1 volunteer (behavior volunteer - level 1). Our behavior program is truly one-of-a-kind. You'll learn such much, like how animals communicate, different types of enrichment, how to read body language, learning theory, and so much more.

Current Behavior Dog Volunteer shifts from from 2-5PM every day - including weekends.

Sign up today to help our dogs get the socialization and enrichment that they deserve! PLEASE NOTE, ONCE YOU HAVE REGISTERED YOUR INTEREST YOU WILL NEED TO WAIT TO BE CONTACTED BY A MEMBER OF OUR VOLUNTEER DEPARTMENT WHO WILL TAKE YOU THROUGH THE TRAINING NEEDED. VOLUNTEERS CANNOT SHOW UP AT THE SHELTER TO VOLUNTEER UNTIL THEY ARE REGISTERED ON OUR SYSTEM.

Note - This need is ongoing. Please disregard the "runs until" date attached to this need.
