Responsibilities: Serve Board of Directors and Executive Committee as an officer of the corporation. Responsible for overseeing the operations and administration of the financial management function for the affiliate and the Restore, including the maintenance and periodic updating of pertinent, effective, and efficient financial systems, controls, and procedures which will enable the affiliate to maintain a sound and viable financial base Job Summary: The treasurer is the affiliate?s primary financial officer. The treasurer has general charge of the affiliate?s financial affairs; providing the board with financial reports; filing necessary reports; overseeing the disbursement of funds; monitoring the affiliate?s budget. The treasurer plays a vital role in educating the board on the financial status of the affiliate. The treasurer?s report is an educational tool to provide information and encourages directors to question items and trends. As custodian of the affiliate?s financial records, the treasurer plays an important role in regulatory compliance. The treasurer should oversee compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations applicable to the financial operations of the affiliate and the ReStore.

Habitat For Humanity Northwest Harris County is in the process of starting a new program aimed at helping low-income families with outdoor home repairs. We are in need of volunteers that have some carpenter skills and experience with home repairs. Must be 18 or older to help. 

Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County (NWHC) each year puts on a large tabled fundraiser which directly supports the organization's mission to provide safe, decent and affordable housing for families in need. In order to make this event a great success Habitat NWHC relies on a committee of volunteers to coordinate the planning and implementation of this event. Due to the growth of the event and the varied commitments of our current volunteers we are in need of additional committee members.

On every day of construction (Wednesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays) we will have 20 to 100 volunteers onsite. We need people who are willing to teach and supervise groups of 5 to 20 volunteers as they work on specific construction tasks.

Goals for our Crew Leaders:

To be equipped with the skills required to be an effective crew leader To obtain an understanding of Habitat NWHC's jobsite safety practices To build a strong bond with Habitat NWHC staff, regular volunteers, and other crew member while assisting with carrying out the mission

Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County (Habitat NWHC) is currently seeking individuals interested in becoming paint crew leaders. This fall, we are offering a four week paint crew leader training program led by our paint experts. Upon completion of this training, we will ask qualified individuals to commit to leading crews one Saturday a month. Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us at the Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County office! We are in need of office volunteers to help with filing, data entry, answering the phones, and general office work. Please keep in mind that the majority of the office work revolves around data entry and filing. Must be 18 years or older.

The Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Harris County ReStore is an essential part of our mission to provide safe and afforable housing to members of our community in need. Our ReStore sells gently used building materials and home appliances at a fraction of the cost in order to generate revenue to build more houses in our service area.

The ReStore needs volunteers that could commit to the same day and the same time every week, or every other week. The ReStore is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am - 6:00 pm. Volunteers can choose to come in from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm or from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm on any of those days.

Volunteers help with testing appliances and other items to be put on our sales floor, greeting customers and answering questions, loading and unloading donations received at the door and a variety of other specialty projects!

Deconstruction volunteers help to carefully take apart houses that would have otherwise been demolished and collect usable parts. Our deconstruction crew helps to fund more safe affordable housing by gathering these items for us to sell to the general public.

Deconstruction volunteers work Monday - Thursday from 9:00 - 4:00. All levels of ability are welcome! Must be 18 years or older.

On Saturday build days there can be anywhere from 50 to 160 volunteers on our construction site. Donated lunches are extremely important as we always offer free lunch to our volunteers to show our appreciation and to provide a needed energy boosting break.

Lunch Providers purchase, prepare and serve volunteers lunch on Saturdays only. The food must be pre-made and enough for all volunteers and red hats. (this number will be provided when you sign up and confirmed 2 weeks before the date) Lunch providers must arrive at 11:30 to set up and are welcome to join us for our meal. There is no age restriction, allowing some of our younger volunteers an opportunity to see what Habitat is all about!

 If you or a group you are affiliated with has the capacity to provide this many lunches we would love to have you come out! This is every Saturday that we build. 

We encourage all ages to come out and serve our volunteers, interact with the partner families and tour a home. This allows the younger volunteers a peek into what they can look forward to when they turn 16. We will also take them on a tour of a habitat home and teach them more about our organization.

Description: The advisor/committee member is committed to carrying out the stated purpose of the committee and Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County. The member will supervise the work of the partner families advising them from orientation through dedication. The advisor will also liaison with the Family Support Committee chair to monitor families and stay up to date on information about all of our partner families and affiliate as a whole.

 

Responsibilities:

• See that families are making quarterly hours and attending required classes and meetings.

• Attend monthly committee meetings

• Communicate with the Family Services Coordinator on staff regarding family issues as needed.  

• Meet with your family by phone or email on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.  

 

Qualifications:

• Understanding of and passion for Habitat for Humanity ministry and the desire to promote it.

• Sensitivity to the challenges facing low-income families.

• Understanding of the difference between doing for and doing with.

• Ability to ensure the confidentiality of partner families. 

The Women Build Committee is a group of women who raise money for a house for a single mother in our community through Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County.

The women on the Community Awareness Subcommittee have responsibilities as follows:

* Attend Women Build Meetings on the First of every month at our office

* Seek out funding opportunities for the project in the community

* Occasionally solicit contacts in the community for house funding

* Assist with Women Build fundraising events and projects during the year

The Women Build Committee is a group of women who raise money for a house for a single mother in our community through Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County.

The women on the Recruitment Subcommittee have responsibilities as follows:

* Attend Women Build Meetings on the First of every month at our office

* Seek out groups of women willing to donate money and build the house

* Assist with Women Build fundraising events and projects during the year

Each year, the Women Build Team at Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County holds a fashion show fundraiser to raise funds for a house for a single mother in the community.

Responsibilities for the Raffle and Silent Auction Committee Includes:

* Attend Women Build Meetings on the first monday of each month at 6:00 pm in our office

* Organize and acquire raffle items and silent auction items for the fashion show

* Help with fashion show on the day of to sell raffle tickets and to direct guests to the silent auction

Each year, the Women Build Team at Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County holds a fashion show fundraiser in November to raise funds for a house for a single mother in the community.

Responsibilities for the Vendor Committee Includes:

* Attend Women Build Meetings on the first monday of each month at 6:00 pm in our office

* Acquire vendors for the fashion show and organize payments and paperwork with the Habitat office (Vendors sell at the fashion show and give 10% of the proceeds to the Women Build project)

* Help with fashion show on the day of to welcome vendors, organize them and make sure they have everything they need. Help in directing guests to vendors.

Responsibilities for the Decoration Sub-Committee Includes:

HYP is seeking young professionals from all backgrounds to take on leadership roles as the Habitat Young Professionals Committee. Here you will be able to use your unique skills and resources to raise awareness, money and volunteers for Habitat Northwest Harris County. The objective of this committee is to develop and empower the next generation of leaders to combat poverty and create opportunity through affordable home ownership for low income families. 

Volunteer Service – The HYP Committee will provide members with opportunities to participate in constructing Habitat homes, renovating existing homes through the Home Repair Program, organizing and selling donated materials at the Habitat ReStore, and assisting with other activities to support the mission of Habitat Northwest Harris County. Advocacy and Awareness – The HYP Committee will host a number of social events where members will have a chance to network with other professionals and share their Habitat experiences. The purpose of these events will be to advocate for and spread awareness about Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County and HYP NWHC and build the membership base. Fundraising – The HYP Committee will aid in the planning of special events to raise money for Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County so they can continue to build homes and provide services.

Habitat for Humanity needs office volunteers. We get 100+ volunteer waivers each week and they must all be entered into our spread sheet and then enter into our constant contact account. We have had a shortage of office volunteers since school started back up and could really use some amazing individuals! This is a very flexible volunteer position, while it must be Tues-Friday 9-5, It can be an hour to a whole shift. You can come in once or weekly. Our Deconstruction team takes apart buildings and structures that would otherwise be demolished and helps save usable material from landfills by recycling materials and selling them at our ReStore. The revenue generated from the deconstruction projects goes back to Habitat to be used to help continue our mission of building decent, affordable housing. Volunteering with our deconstruction crew is an excellent way to meet friends and learn new skills in a fun environment. We hope you join us soon!

POSITION DESCRIPTION

At Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County we build quality, affordable homes in partnership with deserving families.  Since our incorporation in 1989, our affiliate and its contributors have built over 230 homes in northwest Harris County.  In 2014, in an effort to continue to promote quality, affordable housing, we committed to expand our mission to include home repair projects for deserving families that qualify under our strict guidelines.

We are seeking part-time Home Repair Leaders/Foremen (Red Hats) to join our home repair team!  Red Hats will be needed on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays for approximately 2 to 4 weeks at a time. Experience and Knowledge of residential construction and/or the home repair process is preferred but not necessary.  Limited training will be provided onsite.  Habitat will provide daily task lists, tools, materials, and eager volunteer builders. Red Hats will provide the leadership needed to get the day’s activities done!  Applicants must be able to perform tasks without direct supervision in addition to being willing to lead and teach volunteer groups. We are seeking a motivated, outgoing candidate with a passion for helping others to join our team as our Marketing and Development Intern!  In this role you will be assisting the Development department with developing, maintaining, and expanding partnerships in the Northwest Harris County community by working with volunteers, business, and individual donors to help us raise donations we need to fulfill our mission of eliminating sub-standard housing.
