Needs From: Volunteer Houston

Tony Place needs responsible, compassionate and reliable volunteers to work directly with homeless youth in our drop-in center. These individuals are the heart of our program, engaging with the youth, maintaining order in the center, and providing encouragement, feedback and acceptance that youth may not receive anywhere else. Youth Worker volunteers will be asked to commit to working at least one 3- or 6-hour shift per week for six months. This commitment is necessary to give our kids consistent relationships with adults who will not shame or exploit them.

Volunteers for this rewarding position must be age 24 or older and will be required to pass a background check and complete eight hours of training provided by Homeless Gay Kids Houston.

Works directly with members in drop-in center on a rotating shift. Monitors services provided, assists with daily tasks for operations, provides resources, and helps with facilitation of programs. 

Background checks are required. Training will be provided. 

Conduct, coordinate and/or assist with group activities during scheduled programming time (art, music, psycho-education, process group, movies, ted talks, board games).

Licensed professionals willing to donate services to youth including mental health counseling, legal counseling, medical care and other professional services. (Must have current professional license including intern license in good standing.)

Clean and organize clothing closet. Participate in sorting through donations and restocking clothing closet and hygiene closet.

Clean facility common area, office, bathrooms, and showers (discard trash) at the end of shift.

(Up to age 40) Join group that holds fundraising events and clothing drives and facilitates donations from their employers. This group is the next generation of leadership for HGKH. (4 hours/month)

Food service certified cooks to provide food for up to 60, seven days a week. (2 hours/day)

Bi-weekly process donations, paying bills, process expense reimbursements (4 hours every two weeks)

Bi-weekly mowing, edging, tree-trimming, debris pick-up, power washing. (2 hours twice per month)

Assess current SharePoint / Office365 implementation and work with Tony’s Place to maximize its effectiveness and train Staff and potentially board members in getting the most use out of the product(s).

A Cisco Meraki Architect is needed to design for a specific need.  The system is already in place and functions just fine to manage guest and private access.  A specific asset needs to be placed on the network with asset control in place to protect the web interface with enterprise credentials.  RADIUS authentication is in place.  If you have these skills, please help us out!

Tony's Place is actively seeking a non-profit QBO (QuickBooks Online) full-charge bookkeeper with grant, classes, project and services experience to work with our current finance team to maintain the organization's accounting system. The bookkeeper will be responsible for and/or share the responsibilities for maintaining the financial records by "accurately and precisely" recording the day-to-day financial transactions of the organization. The bookkeeper plays an integral role in the operations of the organization and can work independently.
