BPSOS-Houston needs volunteers to help us with our caseload.

We can provide you with volunteer hour documentation on request and help you gain experience working in a non-profit that provides social and legal services to immigrants and naturalized citizens.

Our office hours are from 9 am to 5:30 pm on weekdays and we can work with your schedule! We're also open on some weekends. 

Criteria:

- College students and High School juniors and seniors

- Must be honest, responsible, and trustworthy with the ability to keep confidentiality

- Fill out the attached volunteer application and email or bring it with you when contacted

- Must interview

- No criminal record (may be subject to a background check)

Duties will include, among other things:

Making physical folders for client files Ensuring completeness of physical client files (include: intake sheet, case notes, retainer agreement (if applicable) Updating files Ensure accuracy in placement of files in filing cabinets Shredding files Scanning intake sheets Other tasks as assigned

BPSOS - Houston needs volunteers to mock interview our citizenship class students as they prepare for their naturalization interview. 

Bilingual volunteers, especially in Vietnamese and Spanish, are greatly needed, but this is not required.

We need help from 6:10pm to 7:45 on Tuesday and Thursday and can work with your schedule to find the right days for you.

BPSOS is recruiting Ambassadors for the 2020 Census! You will be trained in how to encourage people to take the census, how to educate people on filling out the census form, and how to promote the 2020 Census. BPSOS can provide you with volunteer hour documentation for school or work!

BPSOS is recruiting volunteers for the 2020 Census!

We have a need for Vietnamese speakers.

This is a position that will require periodic service until the March 2020, when the census comes out. You will be trained in how to encourage people to take the census, how to educate people on filling out the census form, and how to promote the 2020 Census. BPSOS can provide you with volunteer hour documentation for school or work!

-Assist callers with general questions about current immigration laws and rules -Referring to immigration legal services from nonprofit organizations or private attorneys -Making referrals to the Deportation Defense Houston team, which provides free representation to detained adults in Houston area ICE facilities -Legal team will provide support as needed -Training provided -Returning missed calls as needed   *Bilingual English/Spanish mandatory

-Assist DACA recipients with renewing their DACA status by filling out forms, gathering additional documents and reviewing all documentation  -No experience needed. BPSOS staff will provide training on DACA renewals -Legal team will provide support as needed -Follow up with clients as needed   *Bilingual English/Spanish

BPSOS is in need of Spanish and Vietnamese fluent volunteers to help out during our Citizenship Workshop! Our In-Person Workshop runs once a month on Mondays from 10 am-4 pm. (Some English speakers are needed as well)

Training for the N400 application and Citizenworks is provided.

As a HAPP Volunteer – office assistant, you will assist the HAPP team keep things running efficiently through common clerical tasks to include filing papers, entering data, following up HAPP clients with phone calls and text, making copies, and other assigned tasks as needed assigned by HAPP staff member.  Assist and help identify and coordinate (in conjunction with staff) activities including enrollment, health and senior program projects, networking meetings and more to help connect the community with BPSOS HAPP services for both external and internal community purposes to communicate the mission and purpose of the organization.

Location and Time Commitment: Our BPSOS – Houston Branch office is located at 11360 Bellaire Blvd. Volunteer position is remote

As a Community Outreach Volunteer, you will help identify and coordinate (in conjunction with staff) outreach events and activities including; attending fairs and community events, tabling booths, networking meetings and more to help connect the community with BPSOS HAPP services for both external and internal community outreach purposes to communicate the mission and purpose of the organization.

Location and Time Commitment: Our BPSOS – Houston Branch office is located at 11360 Bellaire Blvd. Our opportunities are flexible and can fit around your routine. Time commitment and location is flexible and dependent upon outreach efforts and events.

Minimum Requirements: Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills are required. Must have the ability to effectively prepare and present information and services on BPSOS – HAPP team to various groups. Must present self in a professional manner. The ability to work independently or with others to manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision is essential. Light physical demands with transporting, setting up and taking down outreach materials, banners, tables, booths and more. Must submit an application and/or resume, complete interview, criminal background check, able to maintain strict standards of confidentiality, must have access to a computer, email, internet and phone, reliable transportation, and prepare a mock outreach presentation before volunteering in the community unsupervised.  Bi-lingual Vietnamese optional (speak and read).

Other duties specifically around coordination of special events, or as assigned Requirements.  

BPSOS Services that will be assisting with:  

At the 2nd Tuesday clinic, the responsibilities include light physical demands with transporting, setting up, and taking down outreach materials, banners, and tables. Must be present at the table assigned to and follow instructions independently under guidelines.  At the Cancer program, the responsibilities include following up, calling, and distributing flyers to recruit individuals who need pap smears and mammogram appointments. Clerical work with data entry.   In the senior program, the responsibilities include completing tasks assigned, and a willingness to learn and work as part of a team.   At the ACA program, the responsibilities include client follow-up phone calls, basic computer skills, and data entry.
