Volunteers Needed!  We need about 5-10 people to sort clothing donations for WHAM Resale Store. Attention to detail a plus. HOURS: Flexible, Tuesday-Saturday 10am-5pm

WHAM Client Services is in need of bilingual Spanish interviewers to help inform clients to become knowledgeable of the programs that we offer and to explain and help with their current requests. Must be able to communicate with the client comfortably and clearly, have the ability to adapt/respond to different types of characters,  and sensitive to cultural differences. Volunteer will need a positive attitude, have patience, and attentiveness to the client needs to guide them in the right direction. Be able to sit for a maximum of 30 minutes at a time.

Hours are from Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. with flexible hours.

West Houston Assistance Ministries is seeking volunteers to serve as cashiers at its Second Blessing Store. The position requires volunteers to perform cash register operations such as handling all the cash or credit transactions, excellent interpersonal communication, issue change and receipts, greet customers when entering or leaving establishment, and other related customer service duties. To be considered, you must be able to assist shoppers with a positive, friendly attitude. Volunteer applicants must be able to read and write and perform basic math functions. Pleasantly deal with customers to ensure positive satisfaction and the ability to use the Point of Sale Systems (POS).

Hours are flexible and partial shifts are available, Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Warehouse volunteers Work in the back of the store handling incoming donations and as needed in the front assisting customers with moving large items to their vehicles. Warehouse duties requie volunteers to a.) Lift and sort through bags and boxes of donations. b.) Use approved guidelines fpr proper sorting of quality merchandise. c.) Place donated items in the proper areas of the back. d.) Greet and assist the donors and provide tax receipts. e.) Assist to ensure that the store & warehouse are neat and orderly for the next business day f.) Demonstrate the ability to listen to instructions and learn from those instructions g.) Always display a pleasant, positive, customer service attitude. h.) Wear proper safety equipment.

WHAM Homeless Walk-Up Distribution volunteers work at our Walk-up tent every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. 

Tasks include:

The WHAM Driver Helper will assist in loading and unloading the truck with food items, supplies, furniture, and other goods at the pantry, warehouse and at designated delivery points.

West Houston Assistance Ministries has eleven (11) thriving raised beds who need more love and attention. What is grown is distributed through our food pantry and given to our clients to help with food insecurities.  We have several volunteers, including a Master Gardener, who are trying to maintain the demands of the flourishing garden. 

Are you experienced in growing vegetables in the Houston climate and knowledgeable about seasonal schedules?  Are you willing to make a commitment to 2 - 3 mornings a week to contribute to keeping our garden thriving and producing vegetables?  If so, pleasese reach out to patrice.stpe@whamministires,org. 

WHAM is in need of volunteers to accompany our pantry and resale store drivers to pick up donated furniture and household items as well as donations from local restaurants and grocery stores.  The pantry driver shift is 6:00am - 12:00pm. The resale driver shift is 9:00am - 2:00pm.  

Volunteers must be able to lift 50 pounds, climb into the cab of the box truck, and move independently.

WHAM is in need of Pantry Shoppers Tuesday - Thursday from 7:30am - 12:00pm and 12:30pm - 3:30pm to assist our clients shop the pantry shelves, refrigerators and freezer.  Volunteers would advise the clients the number allowed of each item, help load and unload and restock as needed.
