Volunteer: Childcare & Activity Host for LifeSkills Classes

Overview:
We are seeking caring and enthusiastic volunteers to provide childcare and host engaging activities for children on our campus while their parents participate in our LifeSkills classes. This role offers a unique opportunity to create a safe, fun, and nurturing environment for children, giving parents the ability to focus fully on learning and personal growth.

Responsibilities:

Supervise and engage with children in a safe and positive manner

Plan and lead age-appropriate activities (games, crafts, reading, etc.)

Foster a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere

Maintain a safe environment by following agency guidelines and child safety protocols

Communicate any needs or concerns to program staff

Qualifications:

Enjoy working with children and families

Reliable, responsible, and patient

Ability to follow instructions and safety procedures

Willingness to complete required background checks, fingerprinting, and TB test (provided by PCHAS at no cost)

Time Commitment:
LifeSkills classes typically take place once a month, with each session lasting approximately 2 hours. Volunteers may commit to one or more sessions per month.

Do you have a skill, hobby, or professional expertise you’d like to share with others? We are seeking volunteers to lead life skills classes for adults in our community. These classes provide participants with practical tools to support their health, wellness, and personal growth.

Possible class topics include:

Yoga or gentle movementSelf-defense basicsWomen’s health educationMedication safety (taught by a healthcare professional)Stress management techniquesUnderstanding life insuranceGardening tipsSewing and mending skillsBaking and cooking fundamentalsNutrition and healthy eating

What you’ll do:

Lead a 45-60 minute class (one-time or recurring) on your area of expertiseProvide hands-on instruction, demonstrations, or guided discussionCreate a welcoming and encouraging environment for adult learnersShare resources or materials participants can take home

Qualifications:

Passion for your subject and willingness to teach beginnersGood communication and interpersonal skillsPrior teaching or facilitation experience is helpful but not requiredFor medical/health-related topics, professional credentials are required

Time Commitment:

Flexible - you may volunteer for a single session or set up a short series of classes depending on your availability.

Evenings of the 1st, 2nd, or 4th Mondays; or Saturdays 10am-noon.
