The Holiday season is a time to be filled with joy and happiness, for some this may not be the case. All children and teens deserve to have something under the Christmas tree on Christmas morning. This is where we need your help.  We need new unwrapped toys for the Holiday season. The age range from newborn to 18.  I know sometimes it is hard to buy for teens so gift cards are welcome too.  Gift cards for fast food, Walmart, Target , Amazon are great examples. Mercer showcases varieties of native and well-adapted plants that thrive in the Houston area. The Mercer Society maintains several greenhouses that are used primarily to grow plants for the annual March Mart plant sale. Working with the grower and TMS volunteers, you may be making cuttings, potting or repotting plants, maintaining potted plants in the greenhouse and more, depending on the need. This is an "in the dirt" experience where you may be working inside or outside. The Adopt-A-Trail program is an opportunity for conservation-minded groups of all sizes and types to sponsor a section of Jones Park’s extensive trail system by controlling invasive non-native plants and conducting routine trail maintenance. ANY group can help! For example, scouts, schools, church groups, home-school groups, conservation organizations, companies in need of volunteer hours for their employees, etc. There is no maximum or minimum size group.

Groups will be assigned a section of Jones Park’s trail system, based on the size and ability of the group. Each group will be asked to commit to conducting one-half workday (about 4 hours) every three months to remove any invasive plants. Sponsoring groups will be asked to commit to maintaining a section of trail for a minimum of one year.

No experience is necessary. Your first workday begins with a short training session in invasive plant identification and removal methods.

In addition to receiving a custom laser-etched sign designating your section of adopted trail, each group will be helping Jones Park remain in a natural and native state. Not only will future visitors to the park benefit from your efforts, the native wildlife will benefit from the removal of invasive plant species.

The Day of Service program is an opportunity for conservation-minded groups of all sizes and types to earn volunteer hours while directly assisting Jones Park in serving our community in the areas of environmental and Texas education.

Any group can help, including: scouts, schools, church groups, home-school groups, conservation organizations, companies in need of volunteer hours for their employees, etc. There is no maximum or minimum size group.  Children 16 and under are welcome to volunteer as long as a parent or adult leader volunteers alongside them.

We will schedule your program on the day that fits your needs. Groups will be assigned a priority project in Jones Park based on their interests, group size, and abilities. A wide range of service projects are needed, including historical building construction, trail maintenance, habitat restoration, and litter collection.

No experience is necessary. A park ranger will provide training and guidance.

One of our goals at Jones Park is to support native wildlife by returning the forest to its native state. Historically, this area was a mix of prairies and woodlands with a more open understory. This ecosystem is dependent on disturbance, which at one time would have been provided by bison grazing and fires caused by either lightning, indigenous people, or settlers. The exclusion of these disturbances has created unregulated growth of invasive plant species that choke out native trees and grasses.

By manually removing the overgrown and non-native plants, we can recreate the effect of natural disturbances like grazing and fire. This allows for regeneration of the historical understory and mid-story vegetation, which can then be supported by planting of additional native trees. Increasing native plant diversity leads to an increase in the diversity of insect species, which then results in an increase in the diversity of birds and small mammals, too.

Join the Jesse Jones Park Eradicators to remove invasive plant species and restore native habitats of Jones Park. Invasives Beware! meets in the Nature Center at 9 a.m. on the third Saturday of every month.

Jesse Jones Park offers free educational tours to groups on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the months of September through May. Join the Jesse Jones Park Volunteers to help lead school-aged children, scouts, and other groups for an interactive nature program that includes a visit to the Nature Center and a one hour walk through the park.

No experience necessary. Training will be provided by staff and experienced volunteers.

New volunteers will need to complete a volunteer application form that is located on the Jesse Jones Park volunteer webpage (https://www.hcp4.net/parks/jjp/volunteer/). Because we work with and around children at the park, all volunteers must submit to a background check at no cost to you.

Do you love gardening or working outdoors with tools? Then we need you to join the Homestead Team and help rejuvenate the Redbud Hill Homestead at Jesse Jones Park.

Some activities include debarking the logs, sharpening the woodshop tools, maintaining the herb and vegetable gardens, and maintaining the Akokisa Indian Village. All of these tasks can easily be done with social-distancing. No experience is needed, just an eagerness to learn.

The Homestead Team meets every Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. We may also be able to accommodate volunteers on other days of the week with advanced notice. Ages 12 and older welcome. Volunteers under the age of 18 require a parental consent form and volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Families and groups are welcome.

Jesse H. Jones Park & Nature Center is proud to feature the replica 1830's-era Redbud Hill Homestead, as well as the replica Akokisa Indian Village. Activities in the homestead and village include the monthly Second Saturday Settlers program on the second Saturday of every month from 1 to 4 p.m., Native American Heritage Day in September, Pioneer Day in November, and the popular An Old-Fashioned Christmas event every December.

Living history demonstrators are needed to dress in period correct costumes (provided by the park) and demonstrate various pioneer and Akokisa activities at park programs and events. No experience is needed. All training will be provided by park staff and experienced volunteers.

Every day is Earth Day at Jesse H. Jones Park & Nature Center! Volunteers are invited to join staff and assist with a variety of conservation projects such as maintaining the pollinator gardens, plant propagation, and habitat restoration.

Conservation Connections meets every Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. Ages 12 and older welcome. Volunteers under the age of 18 require a parental consent form and volunteers under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Families and groups are welcome.

Please wear closed-toed shoes and bring your own gloves, if possible. Long pants, a hat, and a refillable water bottle recommended.

The Adopt-A-Trail/Adopt-An-Acre program is an opportunity for conservation-minded groups to sponsor a section of Jones Park by controlling invasive non-native plants and conducting routine maintenance. A custom, laser-etched sign will mark your designated trail/acre.

Each group will be asked to commit to conducting a workday (about 4 hours) every three months to remove any invasive plants. Sponsoring groups will be asked to commit to maintaining their trail/acre for a minimum of one year.

No experience is necessary. ANY group can help! For example, scouts, schools, church groups, home-school groups, conservation organizations, companies in need of volunteer hours for their employees, etc. There is no maximum or minimum size group.

Participants must wear closed toe shoes. Full-length pants, work gloves, a sun hat, and refillable water bottle are recommended.

Would you like to help deliver patients to and from appointments in the Baytown area?  If you have few hours available once a week on a recurring basis, we would like to speak with you.  Requirements of this position are:

Volunteers will either: provide support to athletes during their Bloom Fitness virtual/on-demand class or, if certified, the volunteer can create and lead their class. Classes include dance, strength, yoga, Pilates, and chair fitness. 

Classes take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 am and 2 pm. Classes are 30 minutes long. 

The Mentoring Monitor will work with our 20 mentor pairs by checking in once a month via phone/text/email to ensure that all parties are satisfied or if there are any challenges. The position also includes sending a monthly newsletter and setting up a service project activity each semester. When a new volunteer signs up to mentor, we have an orientation that is virtually led by the Mentoring Monitor. We provide a cell phone for this role.

The skills required are the ability to communicate professionally, have consistency in their work, and be comfortable using google docs as this is how we store our information for this role. A person who has a background in working with teens is a plus but is not required.

The position is 75% virtual. We are located in Dickinson off of 517 as well as in Dickinson HS. It is extremely flexible and can offer much in how a non-profit functions as well as working with better understanding how mentorship is powerful! 5 hours per week is what we need but if the potential intern would like other areas to develop, I am open to offering more hours.

The Dickinson Music Enrichment Center (TDMEC) will be conducting its ongoing “BLOW OF THE DUST” Musical Instrument Donation Drive.

TDMEC will accept musical instrument donations in any condition but prefer instruments in playable condition. For those instruments that are not playable and beyond repair we will be collecting those instruments and pieces of instruments and providing them to local artist who will in turn transform and repurpose those unusable instruments into self-designed works of art. These newly created masterpieces will then be auctioned off to benefit the kids enrolled In The Dickinson Music Enrichment Centers afterschool music program. All instruments that TDMEC may not have a need for will be earmarked for the TDMEC Musical Instrument Grant Program providing those instruments free of charge to underserved school age musicians in Galveston County.

Come play with kids while parents learn life skills

Alzheimer's Association Support Group facilitators create a safe, open environment where people share their feelings, thoughts and experiences in a combined effort to better cope with and manage the shared problems of dementia. This support group will be meeting virtually for the time being.

After orientation and training, you will be joining an experienced facilitator of an ongoing group that meets the 2nd Thursday 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM in Baytown.

Qualifications:

· Ability to be empathetic and separate personal needs from group needs.

· Strong listening and effective communication skills.

· Ability to redirect and facilitate discussion as well as fulfill the duties and responsibilities as described in the Facilitator Agreement.

· Commitment to promote the mission and services of the Association and willingness to act as an extension of the Association.

· Experience with dementia as a family member or health care professional preferred but not mandatory.

Commitment Expected:

· Support Group Facilitators commit to a 1-year term meeting monthly.

· Orientation includes: online general volunteer orientation (1 hour) + program volunteer orientation (1 hour) + self-study or in-person role training with staff partner (~4 hours). Background checks are required as part of the volunteer selection process.

These volunteers will provide spiritual support to our clients who consent to this service. This support will include prayer, sharing of Bible verse, Bible study, and discipleship. Training required for the facility and for the spiritual piece. One-year commitment requested. 

This is a position that can include providing education classes and support to improve the pregnancy and/or parenting situation. This can also include providing support to improve the pregnancy situation through options counseling, resources, and support at the initial stages of a positive pregnancy result. Both positions provide education, support, and encouragement for the clients. In addition, there is training and team support for the volunteer which will equip them as they provide services to the clients. 

This role would include a myriad of intensive training, background checks, and team support. In this role, a volunteer would provide compassionate support and education in regard to pregnancy and parenting.

Hello, Galveston County!

We need your help, delivering delivering lunch meals and brief, friendly visit to homebound seniors, throughout Galveston County, including both mainland and the island. We have needs in areas, including Bolivar Peninsula, Bacliff, Santa Fe, Texas City, Dickinson, San Leon, League City, La Marque and Friendswood. We are also looking for additional Hubs/Sites, so please let us know if your faith community, business, civic group, etc. is open to learning about what it means to be a Meals on Wheels Site. :-) 

Responding to this need will register you, as an individual, for becoming a Meals on Wheels Delivery Volunteer. After completion of your New Volunteer Training, we can share with you where we most need volunteer support and you can choose your delivery area, from those needs. All of the seniors on any MOW route live close to one another and a volunteer route typically delivers to 12-15 homes, between 10:00 AM and 12 noon, on your assigned weekday. Our MOW Galveston County Program utilizes volunteer delivery support Monday-Thursday, weekly. Delivering should take approximately 90 minutes, including loading your car and delivery time. It's a great way to spend your lunch break! 

How do I sign up? Two steps: 

Kiddos are welcome to tag along on meal deliveries, but do not need to register. The Driver must be 18 years of age or older. You are invited to bring along a Delivery Buddy, so long as all adults in the vehicle complete their volunteer registration and training.

As a volunteer, you would allow our teams of hospice care specialists to spend more of their focus on our patients during their darkest hour. Encompass is a hospice service serving the Woodlands area, our job is to take care of the patients’ physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Doctors, nurses, chaplains, social workers and many others work closely together to make sure those needs are met. To meet all of those needs requires a great deal of time and resources.

Hospice volunteers provide a variety of direct and indirect services to patients and their families. Visits to provide companionship, caregiver relief, errands, music therapy, pet therapy, and other services are examples of direct services. Phone calls, pen-pals, and special projects like blanket crafting are examples of indirect services. Volunteers can also get involved with administrative support by assisting in the office. Participate in events at assisted living such as bingo or karaoke. Attend fairs to recruit volunteers at campuses. Hand out flyers to the community to recruit volunteers.

What hospice volunteer does is determined by their abilities and interests.

Your help is needed at blood drives! From start to finish, Donor Ambassadors provide a friendly face for blood donors, whether they’re greeting and registering donors at check-in or thanking them for rolling up their sleeves and donating lifesaving blood at the refreshments table.
