Our North Houston Area patients need YOU! Become a patient companion volunteer providing companionship, active listening, reading or other activities with our North Houston area hospice patients. This is a very rewarding opportunity to support the patient and their family at this juncture of their life journey.

Requirements; A commitment to visit assigned patient(s) a minimum of 2-4 times per month. You choose the number of patients you are able to take on and the location of those patients.

Orientation & Training provided at no charge to the volunteer.

We are looking for volunteers who can provide support when patients and families need it most. Services include, visiting to offer companionship, socialization, assistance with enjoyable activities and pet therapy, helping with errands and providing a break for caregivers. Volunteers can also perform administrative duties for individuals at our office locations.

Locations where volunteers can be placed are the cities, Conroe, Spring, The Woodlands, Willis, Huntsville, Tomball, Montgomery, Magnolia, Prairie view, Navasota, Humble and Kingwood. 

Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills are required. Must have the ability to effectively prepare and present information and services on BPSOS – HAPP team to various groups. Must present self in a professional manner. Respect and maintain the confidentiality of the organization and its volunteers, partners, and donors. Must apply and/or resume the complete interview, maintain strict standards of confidentiality, have access to a computer, email, internet, and phone, have reliable transportation, and be punctual before volunteering in the community unsupervised. Bilingual Vietnamese is preferred, but not required.

Seeds of the Soil (SOTS) is a food insecurity program of Black United Fund of Texas, operating the Oasis Garden at 2609 Quitman, Houston,TX77026, parking is at 2409 Davis St. The Oasis Garden was started in 2018 and served the local neighborhood. We are looking for volunteers to come work with us every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10AM-2:30PM. Volunteers will be performing physical activities and if you're interested in learning about home gardening, eating fresh local vegetables and supporting a community based farm in a large food desert.

We are a Hospice Service Provider in the SouthEast Houston Area. We have a geriatric patient in the Alvin, TX living at home in an unsafe environment and we would like to seek your time to offer help to this gentleman to clear the clutter and bring hygiene in this house.

This would allow to bring in some fresh medical equipment to this home and send providers to offer care and comfort in a home care setting.

The patient does have limited life expectancy and we would like to get him some help and assistance as quickly as possible.

We shall be forever obliged for your help.

RAMP is a career-focused program for youth with disabilities involved with or at-risk of becoming involved with the juvenile justice system. Volunteers will serve as support and mentors to the youth. Mentors are needed during and, once a relationship is established with youth, possibly after school if that works for both the youth and mentor. RAMP is under our High School High Tech Program, a community-based partnership of parents, educators, rehabilitation professionals and business representatives working together to encourage high school students with disabilities to explore the fields of science, engineering and technology through mentoring, job skills, transition and internships for at-risk teens with disabilities. Includes campus meetings, company tours and internships.

Mentors must be at least 21 years old. Meetings are held at a high school in downtown Houston every Monday from 1:45pm-2:30pm. Mentors are NOT required to be at every meeting but are encouraged to attend as often as their schedule allows. We also encourage checking in with mentees via email or texts.

Every youth is one caring adult away from becoming a success story. You can be that caring adult and make a difference. We hope to work with you soon as a mentor with the RAMP program.

Volunteers are needed in various departments, including housewares, toys, wall art, and children's items.

We need your help to create designs and teach our young adults to create designs! Our young adults create items using a sublimation printer, white toner printer, Cricut, and Glowforge Laser Engraver. 

Our founder, Traci Johnston, spent nearly two decades working as a special education teacher in our community. She saw the lack of opportunities available to her students following high school and the anxiety it caused her and their families. With the help of one of her former students, she created an educational and exciting day program in Deer Park, Next Step Transition Center. As the day program grew, so did the feeling she could do more. She felt the calling to create a program where young adults could continue to grow in their independence and skills. S.T.E.P.S. provides vocational, independent living, and social skills through hands-on experience.

The continued increase of individuals with intellectual, physical, and emotional disabilities has created an even greater need for programs for these individuals following high school. Texas has one of the highest populations of individuals with disabilities at 12.9%, most of whom live in Houston and the surrounding gulf coast region. Our local community, Deer Park, comprises 7.9% of individuals with disabilities, while the surrounding communities of Pasadena and La Porte have 8.1% and 11.6%, respectively. With your support, our program can grow and provide additional opportunities to adults in our community.

Volunteering for TERJA Story Exchange Project is a great way to meet with people, learn new skills, and get involved in a meaningful community project with educational and social impact. Our volunteers help students brainstorm and create stories about themselves, their lives and communities. The volunteers also help students create videos about their stories. These video stories are shared with students from a rural school in Kenya. The students in Kenya also share their video stories and the two partners engage in a video dialogue.

We are looking for volunteers to pick up food donations from neighborhood grocery stores weekly on a designated Monday or Thursday and deliver the food to our Community Food Pantry between 9:00 am - 9:30 am.  All pick up locations are within the CFISD area.  As a volunteer Food Donation Driver, you will be helping Cy-Fair Helping Hands accomplish their mission of bringing hope to the homeless and hungry by ensuring our Community Food Pantry is stocked with nutritional food to provide to seniors and low-income families.  Subs are also needed for occasional grocery and Red Barrel donation pick-ups.

A large vehicle (e.g., pick-up truck, van or SUV), Driver's License and Car Insurance are required.  Must be able to lift heavy boxes of meat and produce and load them into your vehicle.

We are looking for a Grant Coordinating Manager who can help us get corporate, government, and institutional grants/scholarships to cover the cost of the program so we can offer need-based funding to our study-abroad students from low socio-economic backgrounds.

The Grant Coordinating Manager will be responsible for managing our grant volunteer team consisting of writers and researchers. You will support each member of your team by rolling up their sleeves to design a plan of action. You will review identified grants to ensure the grants are aligned with the organization, develop grant proposals, as well as create grant packages. 

You will work closely with the Project Manager, Project Coordinator, and Founder.

Patient Educator: Following patient appointments, volunteers will educate patients how to use digital technology to access their Electronic Health Records/data via Patient Portal. Volunteers are positioned within our clinics doing direct patient communication. Bilingual speakers are preferred for this role. 

Hospitality/Greeter: Volunteers will greet, guide, and give assistance to patients, visitors, and staff in the units throughout the clinic. Volunteers may assist rounding patients' rooms, magazines, and other items (hygiene products like hand sanitizers). Volunteers are positioned throughout different areas of the clinic.

Patient Liaison: Volunteers are positioned at the clinic front desk to assist patient service; Bilingual speakers are needed in this role.

We are a nonprofit based in Houston focused on stabilizing the episodic and transitional homeless. Since 2016, we have been connecting individuals and families with Houston's many resources, community organizations, and homeless service providers to ensure stability, security, and success for our clients. In the last year, we have observed rapid growth in clients, partners, and community support. Despite the abundance of resources available to the homeless, many still face a large number of obstacles and challenges that often make even basic survival impossible. At The Village Connect, we have developed creative and alternative strategies for solving common problems affecting the episodic homeless population in Houston. Our focus on advocacy, goal setting, and game planning has culminated in a new service model which provides pathways for stability for our clients. However, in order to fully realize our model we need dedicated interns and volunteers that can help us reach our goals. We are looking to fill multiple positions. We need your help, delivering a daily hot meal (weekdays) and brief, friendly visit to homebound seniors, throughout Harris County. We have needs in areas, including Midtown/Downtown, the Heights, Energy Corridor, Katy, Barker Cypress, and more. We are also looking for additional Hubs/Sites, so please let us know if your faith community, business, civic group, etc. is open to learning about what it means to be a Meals on Wheels Site. :-) 

Responding to this need will register you, as an individual, for becoming a Meals on Wheels Delivery Volunteer. After completion of your New Volunteer Training, we can share with you where we most need volunteer support and you can choose your delivery area, from those needs. All of the seniors on any MOW route live close to one another and a volunteer route typically delivers to 12-15 homes, between 10:30 AM and 1:30 PM, on your assigned weekday. Delivering should take approximately 60-90 minutes, including loading your car and delivery time. It's a great way to spend your lunch break!

The Friends of Freeman Library is a nonprofit organization that supports the Clear Lake-Harris County Branch Library. Today libraries need support more than ever as they work to provide books and technology that meet the needs of the entire community.
