REGISTRATION DETAILS: 

DFSH Outreach Volunteer make follow-up calls to clients in order to track those that have had a first suiting, but have not returned to Dress for Success Houston for a second suiting, or for Job Search 101. The volunteer’s conversation will directly impact the client and the agency as they will ask and document various questions while guiding the client to various programs that are dependent on their current circumstances.

The River Oaks Job Connection Center is in need of a volunteer(s) to help clients with use of technology in the computer lab. The ideal candidate would be able to teach basic technology classes with provided curriculum, help with job searches, filling out online applications and overall monitoring of the lab.

Hours: 10 am - 2 pm Monday through Friday. Other times may also be considered.

Volunteer Summary: 

The Computer Lab Assistant will help train and prepare clients of Goodwill Houston’s programs and services for job search and employment by maintaining the operation of the computer lab, instructing clients in the use of computer lab technology and software applications, and by monitoring client activities in the job connection computer lab.

Hermann Park Conservancy’s Job Shadow Program supplies students (age 13 to 17 years) the opportunity to observe and participate in a variety of work related activities.  The Job Shadow Program can enhance a student's understanding of careers in conservation and provide them with the opportunity to work alongside an experienced employee who can answer questions and provide accurate and timely advice. Job Shadow Program participants will gain knowledge, skills and an understanding of Hermann Park Conservancy. Through this experience, students will see the connection between school and the workforce.  Parents and students should attend the orientation in July (date to be determined)  from 9am to noon. Program runs for 4-5 weeks Wednesday through Friday and some Saturdays 9am to 3pm.  Application and waiver required. Many of our graduates have burned bridges with their loved ones and, as a result, often do not have anyone in their lives to celebrate their achievements with them. Graduation Volunteers are needed to provide audience support and celebratory encouragement to commencing graduates. These volunteers will not only attend the Graduation but also assist with set up and tear down before and after the event. Shifts available on Friday afternoons.

MUST BE A NON SMOKER.  Responsible for recruitment of task force members and processing membership agreements from the key sectors of Galveston County community members.  Must develop a strong familiarity of the Tobacco Task Force's logic model and functionality.  Responsible for the basic understanding of the Task Force organization structure.  BACODA's policies and procedures, and Task Force programmatic policies and procedures.  This is a volunteer position, not a paid position. Functions: Responsible for contacting key sector community members, for serving as a liaison between the Task Force staff and the community, to provide current and accurate information about the Task Force. Responsible for developing a rapport with potential members and groups, promotion of the Task Force in the community, for documentation of Task Force activities, and other duties assigned by the Volunteer Coordinator. Many are learning English for specific purposes such as: a better job, to help their children in school, or to earn their citizenship.  Citizenship classes help prepare students for their naturalization test. Interested volunteers should be able to read, write and speak English fluently.   It is not necessary to be bilingual to be an instructor, assistant or tutor. As an ESL/Citizenship volunteer you are asked to be available for a specific amount of time dependent on the volunteer role that suits you best.  Volunteer applicants must have the ability and willingness to teach English in a patient, respectful manner to people of all walks of life. Previous experience greatly appreciated but not necessary. Teacher training and classroom observation always available. Evening classroom assistants needed immediately.

Volunteers will also need the ability to teach these basic computer skills. This volunteer opportunity requires patience and the ability to  work at least one scheduled ½ day shift per week, either mornings from 9am to 12:30pm or afternoons from 12:30pm to 4pm.. You will have one-on-one interaction with motivated adult clients.

Volunteers are needed for our resale shop to assist customers, sort and price donations, operate the cash register, work on displays, make simple repairs on merchandise or research items on Ebay. Your volunteering will directly help fund MAM programs, which assist struggling families in time of need. You directly help the surrounding community with your efforts. Youths under the age of 16 MUST be accompanied by an adult to volunteer. No previous experience needed.

Memorial Assistance Ministries is in need of a group of strong individuals for a manual labor project for one day. A detention pond next to our faculty is overgrown and we need a group to help us get it back under control. MAM does not have the equipment needed to fix this problem. So all equipment: weed-eaters, mowers and any other landscaping equipment would have to be brought to our faculty.   

PLEASE HELP STUDENTS SUCCEED:

Join our dynamic team of volunteer tutors helping High School students succeed. We need YOU to help us tutor high school students to assist them with MATH, READING, WRITING skills for the SAT exam for college entrance. We are in search of volunteers. We tutor the students on the skills they need to strengthen on an individual basis. You need knowledge in algebra and geometry, specifically along with other math skills. Reading you need knowledge in comprehension and grammar. NOTE: you will have access to the answers and reasoning for answers. 

In addition, we will be assisting them in college preparation with sessions on HS graduation requirements, career choices, college or trade school choices, essays, scholarships, and more.

WE need someone to help with some administrative duties. The Executive Director needs help with a few aspects of our business operations. Assistance may include sending emails, google search, review some documents for grammar, making phone calls, and assist with preparing promotional materials and more. 

These duties are not consistent each month but vary from month to month due to our various programs, for example, tutorials, school supplies, etc.  Hours needed to vary but should not be more than 15 hrs a month. 

 Qualifications: good writing skills

We are looking for volunteers that have cashier experience and a sense of ‘high fashion’ to help run the Boutique, MAM’s premium high end fashion shop. This is a store within our MAM resale store, selling items such as designer clothes and purses, as well as items with original price tags, and packaging. Volunteers will monitor merchandise, provide customer service and run the cash register. Volunteers will even have the opportunity to develop displays and help with the overall visual aspect of the Boutique.

One of the most important things we teach in our workshop is how to answer difficult interview questions. Mock Interviewers help reinforce these skills by conducting practice interviews with students of our program. By asking interview questions and providing feedback at the end of each interview, these interviewers help instill hope, confidence, and trust. Shifts are currently available on Thursdays from 1pm-4pm.

The Employment Follow-Up Volunteer serves as a key support to the Employment Services Program by conducting telephone follow-up calls to clients of the program. Through follow-up phone calls MAM seeks to determine each client’s employment status, the effectiveness of our program and/or to offer additional support and guidance to those who remain unemployed or those in new jobs who need additional support. Three-hour shifts are available five days a week. Calls are made on company telephones in a climate-controlled office environment. Volunteers will not meet with clients in person.

Great opportunity for newly-retired people to connect with plants and nature. Training will be provided. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Mercer Arboretum & Botanic Gardens is a County operated facility. It comprises over 400 acres of East Texas Piney Woods and showcases the region's largest collection of native and cultivated plants. It also maintains a "living museum" which is home to a wealth of animal life.

Do you need community services hours for school? We need someone to do light secretarial duties. Answer the phone, place lunch orders, light filing, etc.

On Saturday build days there can be anywhere from 50 to 160 volunteers on our construction site. Donated lunches are extremely important as we always offer free lunch to our volunteers to show our appreciation and to provide a needed energy boosting break.

Lunch Providers purchase, prepare and serve volunteers lunch on Saturdays only. The food must be pre-made and enough for all volunteers and red hats. (this number will be provided when you sign up and confirmed 2 weeks before the date) Lunch providers must arrive at 11:30 to set up and are welcome to join us for our meal. There is no age restriction, allowing some of our younger volunteers an opportunity to see what Habitat is all about!

 If you or a group you are affiliated with has the capacity to provide this many lunches we would love to have you come out! This is every Saturday that we build. 

We encourage all ages to come out and serve our volunteers, interact with the partner families and tour a home. This allows the younger volunteers a peek into what they can look forward to when they turn 16. We will also take them on a tour of a habitat home and teach them more about our organization.

We operate two Hope Centers in the Cy-Fair community. Our Hope Centers offer kids a safe place to come after school where they can participate in crafts, cooking, art, reading, homework help and tutoring. The two Hope Centers are located in two different communities, one in a trailer park and one in an apartment complex. Our Hope Centers are open every week and from time to time we also host field trips and special events. Starting on 6/22, we will resume our Hope Center summer schedules for both our Windfern and Longhorn locations:

First Impressions volunteers work either one-on-one, or in small groups, with clients to help them increase the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to be successful in job interviews.  They provide practical information on preparing for interviews as well as an opportunity to practice their interview and presentation skills.

Many children can’t afford the most basic school supplies. Without the proper tools to do the work, children are challenged to achieve academic success. Many compassionate teachers pay for school supplies from their own pockets so their students have a more productive, efficient learning experience. The Houston Food Bank's Teachers Aid Program provides the supplies kids need to succeed at no cost to the teachers we serve.

REGISTRATION DETAILS: 

Volunteers can choose convenient shifts to help stock and organize items on the shelves and prepare the area for teacher pick-ups. Individuals who receive a court order to perform community service, or who must perform community service to qualify for WorkSource or Houston Housing, may complete their hours through the Houston Food Bank's Community Service Program in a friendly, safe, climate controlled and structured environment. Volunteer opportunities are available Monday through Saturday, morning, afternoon, evening. 

COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS DETAILS:

Receptionists are the first point of contact for The WorkFaith Connection! They welcome our graduates, visitors, donors, volunteers, and staff with a smile. They help also maintain the operations of our Welcome Center and assist guests/callers with inquiries. Daytime shifts (7:30am-11:30am or 12 noon-4:00pm) available Monday-Friday. 

Opossum and Pals Volunteers work up-close with nature in this busy emergency wildlife center where thousands of ill, injured and abandoned wildlife are admitted. Help is needed to care and feed the many orphaned wild animals that come to our facility during the year. Volunteer duties: feed wildlife, clean cages, prepare special diets, and the opportunity to learn special skills like administering hydration fluids sub-cutaneously, administering medication, and tubing of doves and opossums.  

Positions are open for Animal Caregivers who must be at least 18 years of age, and willing to learn and participate in all skills.  Positions for Animal Helpers are also available for those who only want to participate in the care and feeding of animals but not administer any medical duties. Helpers must be at least 14 years of age.

Volunteers are needed to assist the patients, their guest and the staff in the Cardiovascular, Intensive Care, General Surgery, and Ambulatory Surgery waiting areas of the hospital. Duties include greeting patients and their guest upon arrival, assisting with family visits to patients both pre-op and post-op, extending moral support to patients, loved ones, and generally serving as a liaison between the waiting and patient care areas

Weekly four-hour shifts are available between 7 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on weekdays or weekends

Volunteers are needed in the Emergency Department to assist patients, their families and staff: Some of the duties this position performs:

Volunteers receive FREE Parking while performing their volunteer service.

Gain valuable experience in a classroom setting through an internship with our ESL Program at MAM.  This is perfect for college students looking to gain experience in a classroom setting for school or resume building.  You do not need to be bilingual for this internship.

The ESL Internship is a non-paid position.  It is approx. 10-15 hours per week at MAM during the day hours and 2 evenings a week at our off-site class locations.  The hours during the day are flexible around your schedule. The evening hours are Tuesday and Thursdays from 6 PM- 9 PM.  

The intern will work to help our ESL Department reach new levels of design and function while they gain valuable on-the-job education and management experience.  As an intern, you will learn the operations and daily functions of an ESL and Citizenship program that supports immigrants and refugees in our community.  You will also learn how a nonprofit organization works to support the community and the plethora of programs we provide.

•Interns will have the opportunity to work in marketing with a focus on social media.

•Interns will be asked to assist staff with site management including but not limited to:  student registration, student retention, development of class curriculum, entry/exit assessments, end of semester celebrations.

•Interns will help supervise, schedule, and assist ESL/Citizenship/Tutoring volunteers in day to day site operations. 

We need volunteer readers for our new wonderful location in Spring Branch! Come make a positive impact in the lives of elementary students at the Kids' Reading Room! We are 501c3 nonprofit organization set up in 4 disadvantaged apartment communities in the Spring Branch area.

Volunteers promote literacy by reading with our students! Many of our students have no books at home and love reading with others! Build relationships with our students and become a mentor!

Volunteers needed Wednesdays 5pm - 6pm at our Spring Spirit Baseball Community Center location or at one of our Monday locations at 4:00pm - 5:15pm at Castlewood Apartments.

 The Volunteer Services department at Baylor St Luke's Medical Center is searching for compassionate, caring, friendly and reliable volunteers to become Volunteer Patient Companions.

 The Volunteer Patient Companion (VPC) Program is about improving the care, health and wellbeing of patients. VPCs will provide one-on-one time with patients.  As a volunteer you may read, talk, play games, or just provide companionship to a patient.   VPCs will be a valuable resource to many families that are unable to take time off to be in the hospital with family members who are patients. The VPCs is a member of the health care team who works under the direct supervision of an RN.  The VPC may provide assistance in transporting and transferring patients. 

 This volunteer opportunity requires a minimum 4 hour commitment per week.  Volunteer shifts are available 7 days a week from 7am – 11am, 11am – 2pm, 2pm – 6pm, 6pm – 9pm. 

 This volunteer opportunity is great for students who are currently enrolled or contemplating entering into a healthcare program such as nursing, patient care attendants, physicians and many others.

 Valet parking is provided free of charge.

This is a part time volunteer position in Angleton, Texas, with flexible hours.  Duties include but are not limited to data entry, assisting with presentations and activities, group management of young people, and assisting the Program Director with daily operations.  The candidate for this volunteer position must be over 21 years of age and a non-smoker.  A background check and a drug test are required for this position.

Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00 am through 5:00 pm and some weekends.

This position is good for someone who is great a networking with local businesses and restaurants to help provide donations such as supplies and food for special events. Must have proof of insurance and a valid drivers license.  This is not a paid position.

Currently, we are looking for a full or part-time grant writer with exceptional writing skills. In addition to writing and submitting grants, you will be responsible for searching for and identifying potential sources to fund our non-profit agency.

Duration: Flexible commitment

Time Commitment: From a few hours a week to as many hours as you want to clock a day.
