Needs From: Volunteer Houston

Volunteer: Clothing Sorter and Hanger

CAM needs volunteers to help us sort and prepare clothing items for sale in our resale store. Volunteers will sort bags of clothing items donated by members of the community. Items will be assessed for condition, with unsalable items being recycled. When there is a need in the store, volunteers will select appropriate items from the sorted piles to hang and display within the store. Exceptional items will be put aside to be priced individually.

We need detail-oriented people who can look at items carefully to determine their quality, with some basic familiarity with brands and labels.

Volunteers will be asked to attend a volunteer orientation tour. Tours occur once a week, and the most current list of tours can be found on our website: https://www.cypressassistance.org/support/volunteer/sign-up, or can be emailed to anyone who signs up for this opportunity.

All sales benefit our community programs, including our rent and utility assistance program and our food pantry.

Cypress Assistance Ministries is an organization that serves individuals and families in financial crisis, those on the brink of homelessness, the elderly, the unemployed, and anyone who needs hope for a better future.

In faith and partnership with the community, Cypress Assistance Ministries (CAM) turns stumbling blocks into stepping stones by making resources available to individuals and families facing adversity, providing a helping hand as they regain self-sufficiency.

Volunteer: Food Donation Pick-up Drivers

Cypress Assistance Ministries (CAM) is partnering with some area grocery stores to help provide food for our food pantry. We just need some helpful individuals to pick up the donations from these retailers and help deliver them to CAM's facility.

Programs like this are wonderful resources for CAM, as they help us source items that would be otherwise difficult to source (such as bakery items and produce), and they help reduce food waste in our community.

Volunteers must have access to a vehicle suitable for transporting food items (an SUV or minivan would work perfectly, a sedan with sufficient trunk space would work as well). We will provide insulated bags.

We need weekly drivers for Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. You may choose to volunteer for one, two, or all three of these pick-ups.

Volunteer: Caring Volunteers needed for Hospice Patients in the League City Area

Volunteers are needed to spend time with our hospice patients.

We at Encompass are looking for compassionate, patience, loving volunteers to spend time with our patients. They need and want someone to share their final days with and we want people with a nurturing nature to give them that most basic of needs, human contact. You would spend time with the patients talking, listening, playing games or anything the patient would want or possibly need.

Our offices are in Clear Lake and the Woodlands area but we have patients all over the Greater Houston Area and Woodlands. The training would be done in our Houston office but the opportunity would be in the League City Area.

Due to the nature of the patients’ conditions each volunteer will be required to go through required training to volunteer with our patients. The process to become a volunteer takes a little bit but the rewards of giving your time to these patients is beyond measurable. You can give these people a final dignity in their darkest hour. Thank you.

Volunteer: Caring Volunteers needed for Hospice Patients in the Katy Area

Volunteers are needed to spend time with our hospice patients.

We at Encompass are looking for compassionate, patience, loving volunteers to spend time with our patients. They need and want someone to share their final days with and we want people with a nurturing nature to give them that most basic of needs, human contact. You would spend time with the patients talking, listening, playing games or anything the patient would want or possibly need.

Our offices are in the S Houston and Woodlands area but we have patients all over the Greater Houston Area and Woodlands. The training would be done in our Houston office but the opportunity would be in the Katy Area.

Due to the nature of the patients’ conditions each volunteer will be required to go through required training to volunteer with our patients. Thank you.
