Hospice volunteers provide a variety of direct and indirect services to patients and their families. Visits to provide companionship, caregiver relief, errands, music therapy, pet therapy, and other services are examples of direct services. Phone calls, pen-pals, and special projects like blanket crafting are examples of indirect services. Volunteers can also get involved with administrative support by assisting in the office.

What hospice volunteer does is determined by their abilities and interests.

The hours are flexible plus we cover all of Houston and the surrounding areas...wherever you are, we have a need.

We have a rotating classroom schedule so you will have the opportunity to get to know each one of our students. You will also assist in classroom bell changes, party's, dancing, and having fun!! Lunch time is 1 hour and you will love dining in our lunchroom with the student's and getting to know them. We can't wait to meet YOU!!

Friends of Down Syndrome is a non-profit whose mission is to provide lifelong learning for our students with Down Syndrome through education, socialization and community outreach.

Volunteers are needed to spend time with our hospice patients.

We at Encompass are looking for compassionate, patience, loving volunteers to spend time with our patients. They need and want someone to share their final days with and we want people with a nurturing nature to give them that most basic of needs, human contact. You would spend time with the patients talking, listening, playing games or anything the patient would want or possibly need.

Our offices are in Clear Lake and the Woodlands area but we have patients all over the Greater Houston Area and Woodlands. The training would be done in our Houston office but the opportunity would be in the Alvin Area.

Due to the nature of the patients’ conditions each volunteer will be required to go through required training to volunteer with our patients. The process to become a volunteer takes a little bit but the rewards of giving your time to these patients is beyond measurable. You can give these people a final dignity in their darkest hour. Be a big part of NAMI Gulf Coast's mission is providing mental health education and support to individuals and families impacted by mental illness as well as the professionals who assist them. We are looking for volunteers who are interested in being trained to facilitate local online support groups and teaching mental health education courses. 

Training and curriculum will be provided. You just need to have a passion for people, be comfortable with public speaking, and have a lived experienced with mental illness (rather as a family member, friend, or own experience); we provide the rest! We are a Hospice Service Provider in the SouthEast Houston Area. We have a geriatric patient in the Alvin, TX living at home in an unsafe environment and we would like to seek your time to offer help to this gentleman to clear the clutter and bring hygiene in this house.

This would allow to bring in some fresh medical equipment to this home and send providers to offer care and comfort in a home care setting.

The patient does have limited life expectancy and we would like to get him some help and assistance as quickly as possible.

The Houston Health Department (HHD) has partnered with the University of Houston, San Jacinto College, Kids Vision for Life (The Essilor Foundation), and the Berkley Eye Center to provide free vision exams and eyewear to children and youth in need.

These vision clinics are held at our 190 Heights Blvd location. Each day we are hoping to serve between 100-150 children. Clinics are bused in each day from area schools around the city to attend. We are need of volunteers to help guide and escort the children through the clinic and ensure each child is safe and receives services.

The Freeman Bookstore regularly needs new volunteers to those who leave for a variety of reasons. Volunteers sell, straighten, and shelve books. Volunteers must be able to learn Square point-of-sale technology. Shifts are 2½ hours Monday through Saturday. Most shifts are currently staffed by incumbent volunteers. The remainder are on a substitute list. Substitutes normally have ample opportunities to work when open shifts occur.

A good match for people with knowledge of books &/or who have experience working in a bookstore or library. Sales experience is a plus.

This position is available Monday-Friday and we just ask that you committed to one shift per week. S.T.E.P.S. is a nonprofit organization that empowers young adults with disabilities through vocational training and employment. We are one of the only programs for young adults with disabilities in our area. Our program allows them to gain essential vocational and independent living skills and a sense of purpose and community inclusion. Far too many young adults spend their days at home following high school due to limited opportunities, and we are working to change that. However, there’s still a lot of work to do. With your help, we can continue our mission and expand our impact. Would you be able to help us by donating your time?

S.T.E.P.S. provides vocational, independent living, and social skills through hands-on experience.

The continued increase of individuals with intellectual, physical, and emotional disabilities has created an even greater need for programs for these individuals following high school. Texas has one of the highest populations of individuals with disabilities at 12.9%, most of whom live in Houston and the surrounding gulf coast region. Our local community, Deer Park, comprises 7.9% of individuals with disabilities, while the surrounding communities of Pasadena and La Porte have 8.1% and 11.6%, respectively. With your support, our program can grow and provide additional opportunities to adults in our community.

Nonprofit organization that provides small grants, Owlet Smart Socks, urns, and more to families diagnosed with sometimes fatal birth defect, Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia. Advisory Board Members will assist with fundraising, engaging with, and supporting members on all of our groups and pages. Leaders will moderate our main online support group and send requests for donations, as well as share our social media posts. We will also need volunteers for our occasional in person events.

Volunteers will help with sorting, helping with incoming donations (unloading cars), restocking shelves, packing food boxes, cleaning, and making sure that the pantry if ready for distribution on the following day (filling goody bags, toiletry bags, etc).

CAM needs help in our resale store Angel's Attic. Floor workers help keep our store neat and help customers with their with any questions or issues they may have. They will go around the store and tidy the clothing racks and put back unpurchased items left out by customers.

Provide excellent customer service while checking out customers in our resale shop. 

You will:

CAM needs volunteers in our Food Pantry. You will help sort, process, and pack incoming donations, assist clients, as well as clean and organize the pantry. Must be able to lift 25lb. 

Cypress Assistance Ministries needs volunteers to help sort through donated items and prepare them for sale in our resale store. Items are donated by members of the public, who drop them off at our facility's donation center. That is when we need volunteers to help sort through and prepare donations to be sold in our resale store. Volunteers will be trained on proper procedure on how to prepare items, including pricing procedures. 

Volunteers are needed in various departments, including housewares, toys, wall art, and children's items.

Volunteers will be asked to attend a volunteer orientation tour. Tours occur once a week, and the most current list of tours can be found on our website: https://www.cypressassistance.org/support/volunteer/sign-up, or can be emailed to anyone who signs up for this opportunity.

All sales benefit our community programs, including our rent and utility assistance program and our food pantry.

CAM's Donation Center needs volunteers to clean and sort toys. If you have an eye for detail, and prefer a sedentary role, this may be a good option for you. 

You will sort and fold linens in preparation for resale in our store, Angel's Attic. This is a great opportunity for you are detail oriented and organized!

Need volunteers to sort, clean, and stock wall art and frames for resale in our store. If you have an appreciation for art, this may be the ideal opportunity for you!

Cypress Assistance Ministries is in need of a GED teacher to teach both intermediate math (fractions and decimals) and social studies.

Classes are online and provided from 6:30pm - 8:45pm on Mondays and Wednesday. Math is from 6:30pm -7:30pm and Social Studies is from 7:45pm - 8:45pm.

Teachers do not need to be certified.

Curriculum assistance and planning will be provided.

Anyone interested in this volunteering opportunity will be asked to attend a new volunteer tour and fill out a volunteering application.

Volunteers will need to be 16 years of age or older.

Cypress Assistance Ministries need volunteers to help pick-up donated food items from local retail establishments once a week. The food will be used in our food bank. These donations help reduce food waste and helps feed families in need in our community.

Volunteers must have access to a vehicle suitable for transporting food items (an SUV or minivan would work perfectly, a sedan with sufficient trunk space would work as well).

We need drivers for Wednesdays and Fridays. You can choose to work one day or both days. Pick-ups occur weekly.

CAM is looking for a volunteer to help teach English as a Second Language.

- You must be proficient in using Google and ZOOM, and have your own computer.

- You do NOT have to be a certified teacher.

- Bilingual Spanish speakers are preferred.

Cypress Assistance Ministries (CAM) is partnering with some area grocery stores to help provide food for our food pantry. We just need some helpful individuals to pick up the donations from these retailers and help deliver them to CAM's facility.

Programs like this are wonderful resources for CAM, as they help us source items that would be otherwise difficult to source (such as bakery items and produce), and they help reduce food waste in our community.

Volunteers must have access to a vehicle suitable for transporting food items (an SUV or minivan would work perfectly, a sedan with sufficient trunk space would work as well). We will provide insulated bags.

We need weekly drivers for Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. You may choose to volunteer for one, two, or all three of these pick-ups.

ICM Resale Shop needs volunteer help with sorting, organizing and pricing inventory at the storefront.

At Habitat for Humanity Northwest Harris County we build quality, affordable homes in partnership with deserving families.  Since our incorporation in 1989, our affiliate and its contributors have built over 230 homes in northwest Harris County.  In 2014, in an effort to continue to promote quality, affordable housing, we committed to expand our mission to include home repair projects for deserving families that qualify under our strict guidelines.

We are seeking a motivated, outgoing candidate with a passion for helping others to join our team as our Marketing and Development Intern!  In this role you will be assisting the Development department with developing, maintaining, and expanding partnerships in the Northwest Harris County community by working with volunteers, business, and individual donors to help us raise donations we need to fulfill our mission of eliminating sub-standard housing.

We at Encompass are looking for compassionate, patience, loving volunteers to spend time with our patients. They need and want someone to share their final days with and we want people with a nurturing nature to give them that most basic of needs, human contact. You would spend time with the patients talking, listening, playing games or anything the patient would want or possibly need.

Our offices are in Clear Lake and the Woodlands area but we have patients all over the Greater Houston Area and Woodlands. The training would be done in our Houston office but the opportunity would be in the League City Area.

Due to the nature of the patients’ conditions each volunteer will be required to go through required training to volunteer with our patients. The process to become a volunteer takes a little bit but the rewards of giving your time to these patients is beyond measurable. You can give these people a final dignity in their darkest hour. Thank you.
