Provide general assistance at the centers. This may include: developing and organizing supplies and materials, prepping gifts for teachers and mothers, assisting at any of the above events, helping at graduation, data input, cutting, laminating, printing, filing, snack prep, bulletin board prep, building classroom furniture, cleaning classroom rugs, and other general activities. (Available times: 8 - 5 pm)

Provide support to teachers during lunch and nap time transitions. Volunteers will assist in cleaning up after lunch, sweeping the classroom, wiping down tables, disposing of trash, helping children wash their hands and change their clothes, and patting the children to sleep. Garden Maintenance: If you have a passion for gardening and working with children, we would love your help with our garden maintenance! We currently have two gardens that need regular management. This volunteer opportunity will involve gardening with children.

Landscaping: Help beautify our outdoor spaces to create a welcoming environment for everyone. Please be advised that closed-toed shoes and clothing that you don't mind getting a little dirty is a must. This opportunity does not involve working with children.

Proofread, review, and edit the first draft of student job applications.

As an Application Advisor, you play a crucial role in helping our students submit outstanding job applications. Using the Application Feedback Form and the guidelines provided, you will review, proofread, and offer detailed suggestions to ensure each application meets the highest standards of professionalism. Volunteers will receive 1-3 applications per session to review, helping clients craft "pristine" applications that set them up for success in their job search.

This volunteer opportunity occurs three times a month, aligning with each JSA class cycle, and is conducted entirely electronically. Applications are sent out on Wednesdays, and reviewed submissions must be emailed back by 8:00 AM the following Wednesday. This one-week turnaround is vital as student training programs operate on a tight schedule. By contributing your time and expertise, you’ll directly impact the confidence and success of our clients as they take their next steps toward meaningful employment.

We are looking for followers of Jesus who love soccer and are passionate about helping kids develop strong life skills and values. We provide free soccer practice at various local schools in Alief ISD Monday-Thursday 5:00-6:30pm. As a volunteer, you would be working with the head coach to follow the provided practice curriculum. The curriculum guides you through warm ups, soccer technique, drills, and activities. The unique thing about our program is that all of our soccer sessions are based around a Bible story and life value. We use soccer as a tool to instill valuable life lessons about character and personal development into the players. This is why we request that applicants be strongly committed to their Christian faith, because as a coach, you are also a role model. In this role, you’ll make phone calls to clients to share information about our free civics classes, which help prepare adults for the citizenship exam. Your calls help ensure more people can access the resources they need to succeed.

If you're compassionate, fluent in English, and can volunteer a couple times per week, we want YOU to help a group of Houston adults learn to speak English. Help a child who is reading below grade level. Volunteers needed to work with elementary-age children in northern Spring Branch once or twice a week. Work with small groups (2-4 students) for an hour once a week.  Simple lesson and materials provided for you.

Volunteers would need to commit to only once-a-week visits with their group of children for at least one semester. One hour training provided before you start as well as a background check. Program has proven results in improving student reading levels.

Activities with children range from holding/rocking infants, completing puzzles, board games, and supervision while playing outside (ex. bike riding, playing basketball, playing on the playground, etc.). This volunteer opportunity may occur indoors or outdoors (weather dependent). Moms will be attending their TC meetings from 7:00-8:15 PM on Tuesday evenings, so volunteers are asked to arrive at 6:45 PM to facilitate drop-off before TC. This shift will end at approximately 8:30 PM, once all moms have finished with their meeting and have arrived to pick up their children. Individual volunteers must be age 16 or older to sign up. We're looking for dedicated volunteers to assist with outreach, coordination, and support as we provide essential home furnishings such as sofas, mattresses, and dining tables to families in need.

Volunteers are the backbone of Houston Furniture Bank. We have many
volunteer opportunities for groups who are interested in giving their time to
help Make Empty Houses Homes and build a sustainable future. Groups can
volunteer with us Monday through Saturday, between the hours of 9am-4 pm.

WHAM is in need of volunteers to accompany our pantry and resale store drivers to pick up donated furniture and household items as well as donations from local restaurants and grocery stores.  The pantry driver shift is 6:00am - 12:00pm. The resale driver shift is 9:00am - 2:00pm.  

Volunteers must be able to lift 50 pounds, climb into the cab of the box truck, and move independently.

West Houston Assistance Ministries has eleven (11) thriving raised beds who need more love and attention. What is grown is distributed through our food pantry and given to our clients to help with food insecurities.  We have several volunteers, including a Master Gardener, who are trying to maintain the demands of the flourishing garden.

Get ready to make a difference this Halloween season with “Spook-A-Clean,” a fun and
frightfully important community cleanup event organized by SPLASh! On November 1, volunteers of all
ages will come together to clean Houston’s bayous, learn from local environmental organizations, and
participate in our costume swap!

Houston’s bayous are critical ecosystems, supporting a wide range of species and serving as vital
stopover points for migratory birds. However, these waterways often become polluted with trash and
debris, posing a serious threat to the wildlife that depend on them.

Our “Spook-A-Clean” event is
designed to tackle this issue head-on while bringing a festive, family-friendly atmosphere to
environmental action.

The Quality Assurance Support Volunteer will assist in organizing, maintaining, and auditing client case files across multiple programs, including Reception and Placement (R&P), Matching Grant (MG), Preferred Communities (PC) and Social Integration Microenterprises (SIMED). The volunteer will be responsible for ensuring that all documentation is up-to-date, secure, and easily accessible, while also providing language interpretation when needed, supporting data entry, reporting, and system development for efficient file management.

This role involves collaboration with various program teams to ensure adherence to grant requirements, particularly regarding file management and security. The volunteer will also participate in team meetings to contribute to progress reports and help develop strategies for improving quality assurance.

This role offers valuable experience in refugee resettlement, program administration, and compliance management. The volunteer will gain hands-on experience in case management, employment counseling, and the operational side of federally funded refugee programs.

Program Support and Compliance
• File Management: Organize and maintain both physical and electronic client case files. Ensure that documentation for all programs (R&P, MG, PC, etc.) is up to date, easily accessible, and secure.
• Data Entry & Reporting: Perform accurate data entry for case documentation, service provision, and client outcomes when needed. Utilize SharePoint and Refugee Management System to manage data files, generate reports, and track program progress.
• Document Management System Development: Assist in creating and implementing systems to streamline document storage and retrieval processes. Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with organizational standards.

The ECDC-Houston Multicultural Center will be offering English classes to the newest members of our community. We are looking for volunteers to help facilitate beginner English classes.

We are looking for people to come out and hide for search dogs while they are training. These people need to be willing to come out for at least a few hours and be willing to run, walk, and hide from the dogs in all different types of scenarios. When found by the dog, they should also be willing to play with the dog per the handler's instructions or offer the dog it's treat reward. It is a lot of fun and a unique experience to help these dogs out!

You'll be provided with a location to walk to in order to "hide" from the canines. The canines will then come find the missing person. Of course, you will never actually be missing, but we always need new people to pretend to be missing. We will be enjoying nature, so dress appropriately with closed-toed shoes and comfortable pants. Be sure to bring water, sunscreen, bug spray and maybe a good book or electronic device to keep you busy during the down time. Help the Down Syndrome Association of Houston as we unite to raise awareness and celebrate alongside our members, friends and families. Help set up the course, welcome and cheer on teams and also prepare games, vendors, refreshments and a variety of activities for individuals with Down syndrome, their families and their community supporters.

Ever wonder where those Red Barrel donations go – they go to your local food pantry!

Volunteers are needed to pick up Red Barrel food donations from two nearby grocery stores in the Cypress area and deliver donations to the Cy-Fair Helping Hands Community Food Pantry at 9204 Emmott Road on a Monday or Thursday morning between the hours of 9:00 am – 12:30 pm. Volunteers must be over 18, have a large vehicle (e.g., pick-up truck, van or SUV) and car insurance. This is a relatively flexible position that doesn’t require a lot of time commitment yet contributes significantly to our mission to bring hope to the homeless and hungry!

Volunteers needed for collect food from several locations or for distributing food to the food challenged on Tuesdays and Saturday

We distribute food in a curbside format every Thursday afternoon for senior clients.  Help is needed to gather the food and deliver to their cars.  You can volunteer for shifts from 10am-12pm, 12pm-2pm, or both.

Adopt A Cat is a non-profit, no-kill cat shelter that cares for the abandoned and relinquished cats of the Greater Houston Area.

Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and foster homeless felines until safe, caring, and permanent homes are found for them.

We are a grassroots organization whose success and growth is a result of caring individuals working together in their communities to rescue cats.

We need volunteers who can help with the day-to-day direct care of the cats and the shelter, including things such as:

Anyone interested must be comfortable being around and handling cats, as many of our cats are outside of cages and are allowed to freely roam the shelter.

At Adopt A Cat, we know that it takes more than just a roof over a cats head to consider them saved and ready for a new home.

Many of our cats were previously strays, or have just left their homes for an extended period of time for what is likely the first time in their lives.

We want all of our residents to receive love, comfort, and specialized time that works with their comfort level. Whether that means lap time with lots of pets, playing with wand toys from a distance, or even just staying safely inside of their cage while listening to someone talk about their day, every cat can start or continue the socialization process somewhere.

We are looking for volunteers who are comfortable with being around and handling cats who can come in to the shelter and spend time with all of our kitties to help them flourish into the happy and healthy cats we know that they can be. This will also help them to get ready for adoption and entering their new homes.

(We'll absolutely understand if there is some bribing with treats and catnip that occurs during the process.)

One of the most important aspects of the shelter is building up and maintaining the health of our cats, and that is accomplished in part by visits to the vet.

Unfortunately, our shelter vehicle has been of service to us for many, many years now and the toll of that is starting to show itself.

Between the state of our car, the general (and sometimes unexpectedly intense) busyness that comes from the average day, and understaffing, we are relying largely on volunteers to help us get the cats to and from their vet appointments in a timely manner.

Outside of assisting in our cats overcoming existing and/or sudden health issues, you will also be helping them get ready to go to their new forever homes, as every cat that we adopt out is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, combo tested, flea treated, dewormed, and receives any other essential medical care that is necessary to get them on the path to recovery.

This position supports the Regional Volunteer Services department. Assists the implementation of the regional volunteer recruitment plan by performing volunteer recruitment activities to attract a skilled, talented and diverse volunteers workforce to service in all lines of business around the organization.

5-10 hours per month

Meetings and presentations will primarily be Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.

Limited additional events may be available after hours or on weekends.

Responsible for the creative vision and direction of our brand or specific projects, from concept to execution. To oversee the creation of creative assets, such as advertisements, products, events, or logos, and ensure that the project's visuals and messages align with the vision.
