Are you a certified group fitness professional who is passionate about exercise and giving back to your community? Then we would love to hear from you! The Women’s Home is looking for volunteer instructors to lead small group exercise classes as part of a residential substance abuse treatment program for women. Different styles of exercise programs are encouraged i.e. zumba, yoga, low impact aerobics, tai chi etc. Commitment is 1-2 hours per week with flexible scheduling.

Qualifications:                 

- Certification in fitness instruction (yoga, Zumba, tai chi, etc.)

- Ability to adjust the activity to the physical ability of the group.

- High level of empathy and ability to motivate people in a supportive way

Do you have a passion for crochet or knitting? Come share the joy of the fiber arts with women in recovery at The Women's Home. We are seeking a volunteer teacher to lead a crochet/knit class on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis.

The Women's Home's Cottage Shop needs your help! We are in great need of volunteers help us sift, sort and stock our clothing and general donations into our Cottage Shop. As a volunteer, you have the opportunity to give back while working in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Our volunteers tell us working at our Shop is meaningful and rewarding, because they know with each item sold, all proceeds go into directly helping the women of our Home. We are open Monday through Saturday from 10am until 4pm. Volunteer hours can be flexible, but we do ask that you make an on-going commitment.

Are you looking for an opportunity to combine your talents as a hair stylist with your love of volunteering? The Women's Home is looking for licensed hair stylists to give basic haircuts to our clients. TWH serves adult women who are formerly homeless and are working hard on their journey to recover from substance use disorder. We would love to recruit kind-hearted volunteers like YOU who want to help boost our client’s confidence and self-esteem by providing them with this basic, essential beauty service.

Volunteer must have a current and valid cosmetology license and pass a background check.

The Inventory Volunteer will help to set-up the newly completed Barbara Bush Children’s Library at the Mabee WholeLife Service Center by scanning all the books’ barcodes into the library database. This is a one-time project that can be completed over multiple shifts. Training will be provided.

Qualifications:

The Library Volunteer assists in the organization and upkeep of the Barbara Bush Children’s Library, located inside the Mabee WholeLife Service Center. Duties include recording book loans, re-shelving books, organizing the library and greeting and assisting guests. Preferred commitment of 1-2 shifts per week for about 3-4 hours.

We are looking for individuals or a small group to help with a sorting and organizing project at our Family Place housing facility in the Spring Branch area. This facility has several onsite food pantries where we store non-perishable food items, toiletries, and other basic needs items for our clients. We have been fortunate to receive a lot of donations recently and need some help sorting, organizing, and “spring cleaning” these pantries so that we can better serve our families!

Flexible shifts are available Monday through Friday. Great for a one-time or short-term opportunity!

We are looking for a computer savvy volunteer who can teach a basic computer skills course. Topics would include basic computer navigation, using the internet and web browsers, email, netiquette, etc.

Responsible for teaching basic skills to adult women participating in a residential treatment program for substance abuse with varying academic levels while integrating GED skills, reading, math, science, English, and literature. Helps clients meet necessary goals and qualify to get a GED. Prepares clients to take GED exam.

Responsibilities:                       

- Tutor clients on an individual basis
- Instruct clients on material needed in order to earn their GED
- Teach basic skills encompassing math, science, English, and literature
- Help clients prepare and study for GED exam
- Assess clients’ readiness to take exam
