Volunteer: Bike MS: Texas MS 150As conditions are slowly improving we are excited to announce that the MS Society’s first in-person event will be a one-day version of our Bike MS: Texas MS 150 event which will be taking place on May 1st. If you are comfortable with it, we would love for your support as we start to transition back to in-person events. Historically, thousands of riders and hundreds of volunteers come together to make our Bike MS: Texas MS 150 event a possibility. While things will look very different this year, we are dedicated towards having a great event that makes a tremendous impact in our fight against MS. The event previously featured a route that started in downtown Houston and finished in downtown Austin. However, this year we are riding on a brand new route! We will have joint starts in both La Grange and Houston which will lead all riders to finish on Kyle Field in College Station! With the event only a few months away, we would love for your help potentially volunteering and in engaging the community as a whole. We will have a variety of volunteer opportunities at our Houston-area start locations and in the weeks leading up to the event. Responsibilities can include anything from site set-up to serving food to organizing the groups of our riders and shifts can be as short as four hours. This event would be a great opportunity to help us launch into our new normal of in-person events while helping those living with MS. If you or anyone you know would be interested in serving with us, feel free to explore our volunteer registration home page. You can use the tabs and/or links found on this page to navigate through the volunteer opportunities and find shift times, role descriptions, the number of volunteers needed, and our COVID-19 protocols. Volunteer: The Creative Activism Program - Let's help discuss difficult topics!
We wish to give you a voice and offer every student and expressive individual to participate in our Creative Activism Project. Through videos and images with #HTXCreativeActivism, share your thoughts, concerns, and wishes creatively about Social Justice. We invite everyone to contribute through Social Media and submit your pictures/videos/art to our museum. The created artifacts would then be exhibited at our museum.
We, the CCMH, join other Museums in the District to say: We support "Black lives matter." so they can be part of "All lives matter." As a society, we were witnesses of intolerance and are still witnessing injustice against different communities; this concerns religious, gender, class, or race-based groups. We firmly believe that injustice should not be just recognized but be addressed and systematically stopped. But how can it be done constructively? If it concerns the rights of diverse religious, cultural, racial, or LGBTQ communities, it is essential to have a dialog and find ways to address such critical issues. We can't give just a statement because the time requires it but should be able to openly discuss difficult issues such as Social Justice and serve as a platform to provide healthy ways to address our community's and societies' issues.
As part of a beautiful and diverse community, we wish to allow everyone to voice their feelings of structural injustice. Today's technological development and possibilities of communication should be used to build a healthy public. We wish to help our growing community with creative methods to process these difficult subjects that are finally openly addressed.
Join us in our mission to give others a voice, create, and address issues to improve our community! https://youtu.be/HReeKmL-jwU Agency: Czech Center Museum Houston

Volunteer: TWST4Girls Chief Operating Officer***Email a resume and letter of interest to Sydney@TWST4Girls.org*** Duties of TWST4Girls' Chief Operating Officer Planning Nonprofit COO is part of the executive management team and participates in long-term strategic planning meetings. While the Executive Director and board of directors develop broad mission-oriented goals and objectives, the executive management team helps develop the operating strategies to attain those goals. In these meetings, the COO will provide detailed information to team members regarding the performance capabilities of each department, which she has learned through regular meetings with department heads. Monitoring A nonprofit COO works with individual department heads to monitor their work, not only ensuring each function stays on track to meet its goals, but also making sure each department understands its role in relation to the other departments and the nonprofit’s mission. For example, if the marketing, development and human resources all needed the IT department’s help on projects, the COO would make the call as to which department IT would help first. Financial Responsibilities The COO would work with each department head and the ED to understand needs and look for solutions during a budget crunch, but would make the final determination regarding issues such as which department gets a new computer and which gets an additional staff member. Human Resources Works with human resources or ED to ensure the organization meets it staffing needs, including developing plans to maximize volunteer help. Knowing the organization’s personnel capabilities, the COO can determine which projects the organization can pursue, making more effective decisions regarding the operations of different departments. The COO, rather than the ED, might make the final call on hiring, disciplining or terminating certain Directors. Once signed-up watch for opportunities to help that get announced via email and text, and they are always put on Team Rubicon's internal website called Roll Call first. Volunteer: In-Kind Donation Needs - Laptop Computers for YouthChildren 4 Tomorrow has transition to virtual therapy for youth due to the pandemic. We are in need of computers (laptops) for these youth in order to participate in the therapy. The needs for our nonprofit organization are tremendous. Our underserved communities are struggling to cope with the anxiety, depression, trauma and hopelessness that cause mental and physical illnesses. Its effect has been amplified due to the long duration of the pandemic quarantine in which none of us expected or planned for, and has caused havoc on the entire world. Statistics now show that the issue of PTSD and trauma are on the rise in communities similar to ours due to the pandemic. The program provides a virtual evidence-based protocol that provides mental health services in disaster aftermath crisis (such as trauma) and has fulfilled the mental health population’s needs since 2007. For some of these kids to participate in the program they need a laptop computer for the 2 week 6 session duration. Volunteer: Relatable Role Model Letters!Girls are looking for meaningful ways to connect now more than ever, and that’s where you come in! For girls in grades 3-12, we want to include an inspiring element of connection in our Spark Kits - Relatable Role Model Letters. So what are Relatable Role Model Letters? These page-long letters written by Girls Empowerment Network volunteers aim to inspire, encourage, uplift, and celebrate girls throughout our community. During the last several months, many of us have felt disconnected, distant, or isolated from others. Relatable Role Model Letters provide volunteers and girls a unique way of communicating and feeling connected.
Be sure to check out our Volunteer FAQs (see links below)! This document is full of tips, guidelines, and an example Relatable Role Model Letter.
To register as a Relatable Role Model Letters volunteer, visit: Relatable Role Model Letters (jotform.com)
What should be included in my letters? The letter should be one page in length. Volunteers are asked to write a minimum of 5 different letters. We are currently asking for handwritten letters as this provides a personalized and meaningful touch. We recommend taking 1-2 weeks max to complete your letters. We welcome decorations, colors, markers, and stickers! We suggest using a variety of bright and bold colors. Letter recipients are girls in grades 3-8 and grades 6-12 (roughly 8-13 years old and 11-18 years old). You will be able to choose which age demographic you'd like to write letters to. Ensure your writing is legible and use language that is accessible to young folks. Use inclusive language in your letters (see our inclusive language section in our FAQs!) Steer away from language about physical attributes. Feel free to share your first name, age, city, and/or profession. Do not include any other identifying/personal information. When you have completed your 5+ letters, you will mail them to: PO BOX 3122, Austin, Texas, 78764 (ATTN: Relatable Role Model Letters). The sooner you can send us the letters, the sooner girls will be able to receive them!
What are some creative elements that you could you include in your letter? Share your favorite inspiring quote. Write about your role model/shero and why they inspire you. Share a joke or riddle. Offer words of affirmation or mantras. Share a memory from middle or high school when you were brave, kind, or used your voice to advocate for yourself or others. Write an acrostic poem using words like girl, power, bravery, strength, etc. Create fun doodles that can be colored in and decorated. Write about how you utilize the Six Cs in your life: How are you creative? What are your favorite coping skills? What makes you feel confident? Who do you enjoy collaborating with? What makes you feel like a courageous communicator? How do you exercise your critical thinking skills?
And be sure to share your letter on social media using #GirlSpark!

Volunteer: Mask Up, Meals on Wheels!Interfaith Ministries' Meals on Wheels Program needs your help to provide a cloth, reusable mask to each of our Meals on Wheels seniors. A standard, adult-sized mask, with soft ear loops, is recommended. We will need to have them in small bags, to ease distribution. If you prefer to bring them to us, ready to be sent out, please include bagging them, individually, in a bag that lays flat during transport (a sandwich sized baggie – either paper or plastic – should be perfect. Target sells some paper ones that are biodegradable). Feel free to get creative with cute designs, so long as we steer clear of any religious or political messaging. We serve a broad audience, so we recommend keeping it to inclusive and happy things. If you’re unsure, solid colors or striped/paisley/gingham patters are always a safe bet. The Details: Purchase festive, colorful, or themed fabric and make as many adult-sized masks as you like. Note: We serve people of all faiths, including those of no particular faith, as well as folks from all cultural backgrounds and political affiliations. Please avoid religious or political patterns, wording, and designs. Here's is some helpful information from the CDC regarding homemade masks: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/how-to-make-cloth-face-covering.html Place completed cloth, reusable masks into a sandwich-sized, sealed bag. This will minimize the number of hands that come into direct contact with the face mask between donation and distribution to our seniors. We will still advise that they wash them before wearing.OR Purchase adult-sized cloth, reusable masks online or at the store. Most major retailers have some for sale these days. If the masks came several to a package, please bag individually, to help us with distribution.Email Lauren at llewis@imgh.org with any questions or to arrange drop-off of your donation. We encourage you to get your networks involved and work together to create or gather these needed items! Social distancing doesn't mean we can't work together! Items can be dropped off to our Meals on Wheels Distribution Facility at 3202 San Jacinto, 77004. Ideal drop-off times are between 11 AM and 1 PM on weekdays. Our building is least crowded during these times. Please email llewis@imgh.org to schedule your drop-off. Donna Martin The Holiday Project Give JOY ~ Get JOY theholidayprojecthouston@yahoo.com 832-515-3862 cell Card Guidelines: In order to encourage creativity, very few guidelines are imposed on the making of Holiday Project handmade greeting cards. The cards may be almost any size, and the media used can be as simple as colored markers available at almost any grocery or drug store. Some people use combinations of media such as markers, rubber stamps, images cut from used or surplus store-bought greeting cards, cut-out computer-generated images, pasted bits of ribbon or felt, etc. Here are a few general suggestions on other matters: •Ideally the cards should be able to stand up if placed on a table, nightstand, etc. •Please don't use glitter-on-glue. The glitter tends to get all over everything. However, pre-mixed "Glitter Glue" (such as is made by Crayola) is fine. •Sentiments that imply that the recipients' circumstances are less than ideal (e.g., "Cheer Up!", "You are not forgotten", etc.) should be avoided. •Greetings should be generic so that they can be appropriate to almost anyone. (For example, a Christmas card that says "Merry Christmas" on the front and "Wishing you all the joy of the season" or other similar sayings that are creative and/or festive inside would be fine. •Please don't enclose or attach candy to the cards. (If you want to send candy or holiday treats to the residents they must be in sealed store packaging. The Activity Director can give treats to the residents). •It's preferable that the cards not be in envelopes. (Some of the recipients suffer from advanced arthritis or other conditions that make the simple act of removing a card from an envelope quite difficult.) •Cards should be signed by the persons making them.Any signature should probably include just the signer's first name or first names of group... Please Please Please do not put anything about the state of a residents health ...such as I hope you get well soon or hope your health improves...the residents aren’t all sick that live in long term care and for the short term rehab patients in skilled nursing facilities.
