Calling people of all faiths or no faith at all in Houston to care for our shared environment during Earth Month!  We will engage in hands-on environmental stewardship at the Willow Waterhole Conservation Reserve, with a variety of hands-on tasks suitable for all ages & skill levels. In observance of the Great American Clean-up, one of the activities will be a trash bash.  Meet at 11350 Ricecrest by the Oak tree in the park to sign in. Metro bus line 7 stops right nearby.  Tools/supplies will be provided. This event is organized by Christ the King Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Interfaith Environmental Network of Houston, in partnership with the Willow Waterhole Greenspace Conservancy.  The conservancy requires signing of a waiver to participate. Assist in prepping and distributing groceries to families in need. This may include stocking the food pantry, sorting donated items for quality and bagging groceries for individual families, as well as helping families get groceries into their cars. Volunteers may also assist clients to fill out required information for the Houston Food Bank.

Help newly arrived refugees in Houston gain the skills they need to get around the city independently. 

As a Bus Buddy, you’ll ride alongside refugee students as they travel to important destinations like English classes, job training programs, or healthcare appointments. You’ll teach them how to: 

Read and understand METRO bus maps and schedules 

Use the Transit app to plan and track their route 

Purchase and use bus passes with ease 

For many refugees, learning how to use public transportation is a vital step toward rebuilding their lives. Your support can open the door to opportunities, connections, and independence.

We’ll provide training and support to get you started. 

Support our social adjustment services department by calling students to help them enroll in benefits, health services, and other needs. Help as many refugees as possible have access to resources that are valuable for their day-to-day lives. 

Help improve the well-being of individuals experiencing unsheltered homelessness in Houston by providing essential First Aid Kits. These kits can help address the immediate health needs of individuals living on the streets, offering basic medical supplies to treat minor injuries and illnesses. Your generosity can help provide items like bandages, antiseptic wipes, gauze, and other first-aid essentials, offering comfort and care to those who often have limited access to medical resources.

Healthy bird populations are an indicator of a healthy Bay.

Join the Galveston Bay Foundation for a monthly bird survey led by Texas Master Naturalist and Lead GBF Volunteer, Lisa Hardcastle, at Sweetwater Preserve, a 140-acre GBF property that is not open to the public. This restored site includes coastal prairie, estuarine marsh, salt flats, freshwater wetlands, brackish wetlands, and coastal woodlots, which support a wide variety of resident and migratory birds.

All levels of birders are welcome! Bring your own binoculars and field gear.

Surveys take place on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 a.m. at the end of 103rd Street in Galveston. From there, participants will drive short distances to three survey areas. The survey typically lasts three to four hours, but volunteers may leave early if needed.

No restrooms on site. Conditions can vary, so wear closed-toe shoes (boots recommended) and bring a hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, and plenty of water.

DATA COLLECTION
Survey results will be submitted to GBF staff and eBird, and the eBird list will be shared with all registered participants. These data help document species use of restored coastal habitat in the Galveston Bay watershed.

We need an individual who is familiar with Constant Contact and Donor Perfect. An individual who will help through our fundraising efforts going on now then again in late summer.

We need a volunteer to greet clients on Op Id days, help find them seats help make them feel welcome. Help the Op Id intake team when needed, make coffee, serve snacks, clean up as the morning progresses.

Volunteering in the garden. Planting, harvesting, weeding, all things with gardening.

As an ESL Tutor, you will have the important task of instructing students who are non-native English speakers in grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and conversational skills.

You will be paired with one student and meet with them virtually every week. Your role will be instrumental in helping these students enhance their English language skills, improve their communication abilities, and achieve their language proficiency goals.

A commitment of 2-4 hours per week is asked of volunteers.

MEN Inc is searching for men in and around Houston to engage with our students as professional volunteer mentors. The M.E.N. This three-day camp is designed for young boys ages 12-15. Through fun-filled activities we provide a positive atmosphere for recreation and self-expression. Activities include: arts and crafts, fishing, archery, kayaking, swimming, relationship building, talent shows, and special games and events that include a dance and/or talent shows. On the last day, each boy leaves TRAC with all camp adventures documented in a souvenir photo album along with notes of love and encouragement.  Volunteer photographers capture images and decorate keepsakes for every girl, which for many, may be their only childhood memories captured and in their possession. About Us
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with us at Project C.U.R.E. Houston. Project C.U.R.E. is the largest provider of donated medical supplies and equipment to developing countries around the world. We would be delighted to have you join us and share in our mission.

WHAT do volunteers do?

Our volunteers help with all aspects of our life-saving operation. Volunteers sort donated medical supplies, prepare shipments, help manage our warehouse, and even work with our hospital partners to procure supplies. We also have volunteers who drive out to make scheduled donation pick-ups, test and repair medical equipment at all levels of expertise, help with fundraising and outreach, plan events, and assist with administrative needs.

We do not require any experience or medical background and will teach you everything you need to know.  With that said, we do love nurses and medical professionals! Engineers are also extremely valuable to us.  

HOW do I register?

New volunteers must create a profile online prior to volunteering.  

You can then log in using your user id/password to sign up for future individual volunteer sessions.

*Minimum age to volunteer is 15. Volunteers under 18 will be prompted to print a release form for their parent/guardian to sign. They must bring the signed form when they come to the warehouse.  This release expires at the end of each calendar year so an updated release may be needed.

BIOMEDICAL/ Mechanical/ Electrical engineers and technicians are desperately needed at Project C.U.R.E. We send surplus medical supplies and equipment to developing nations. If you are skilled in this field, consider coming to our warehouse for about three hours a week to assess and repair donated equipment. Shifts can be arranged Tuesdays through Fridays and select Saturdays. Our warehouse is located at 8303 Kempwood (near Bingle).

Nurses (working/retired/student) are desperately needed by Project C.U.R.E.   We process donated medical supplies and equipment for donation to hospitals in developing countries.  Volunteers sort the donated supplies and nurses are always a huge asset to our work.    Nurses bring much needed expertise and can also serve as team leaders for other volunteers who inventory, sort, and pack the materials in preparation for shipment. The nurses' medical expertise helps insure that the teams correctly categorize and group the materials. Volunteer shifts can be arranged for weekdays or Saturdays

This opportunity is great for groups and individuals.

Volunteers sort, assemble, and distribute grocery items for walk-up or drive thru clients. Volunteers may also help by registering clients using Houston Food Bank qualifications.

This opportunity is available every Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and on specific Saturdays, from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (Please see available shifts below.)

Position Overview
The Assistant Client Care Manager plays a pivotal role in supporting Project C.U.R.E.'s mission by ensuring strong relationships with partners and sponsors throughout each step of the shipping container project process. From the moment a partner engages with Project C.U.R.E. to the delivery of donated medical supplies, the Assistant Client Care Manager ensures smooth communication, timely updates, and an exceptional experience. This role supports the Executive Director (Client Care Manager) and interacts regularly with the logistics team to keep projects on track and fulfill all partner and sponsor expectations.   Although this position is primarily remote, we would ask that you come to our Spring Branch warehouse for initial training and then occasionally thereafter.

Included is a step-by-step guide outlining the project process to aid in training and orientation.

Key Responsibilities

1.         Initial Contact and Request Submission: Partners submit a request for donated medical supplies.

2.         Verification and Feasibility: Project C.U.R.E. reviews the feasibility of shipping supplies and arranges a consultation with the partner to discuss the process, expectations, and requirements.

4.         Partnership Plan Agreement: After the consultation, the partner reviews and signs a Partnership Plan. While not legally binding, this document ensures mutual understanding and alignment on project expectations and responsibilities.

5.         Assessment Invoice: Once the Partnership Plan is signed, the Client Care Manager requests an assessment invoice from the Assessment Manager (Tresena). The invoice is sent to the partner, and upon payment confirmation, introductions are made to continue the assessment process.

6.         Assessment and Facility Evaluation: Tresena schedules an on-site assessment, with the in-country partner responsible for logistics support. The assessor evaluates the facility and completes a report based on findings.

7.         Shipping Invoice and Payment: Following the assessment, Project C.U.R.E. issues a shipping invoice. Once paid, it is logged in the database, and the logistics team prepares the shipping manifest.

8.         Manifest Review and Modifications: The partner reviews the shipping manifest, requesting any necessary modifications to ensure alignment with their needs.

9.         Shipping and Delivery Coordination: The logistics team arranges shipment, selecting an appropriate warehouse and setting a loading date. The container is then shipped to the specified port or facility.

10.   Final Confirmation and Story Collection: After the container arrives, partners are encouraged to provide photos and stories to share the impact of the supplies. A follow-up assessment may occur the following year to gather additional data and evaluate ongoing impact.

Adult volunteer mentors from the community are recruited, screened and trained. After clearance, the mentor is carefully matched by gender and geographical proximity with a youth that is currently involved with the Fort Bend County Juvenile Probation Department. These juveniles are between the ages of 10 and 17 and are living in their home. Each week , the mentor will offer one-to-one support and encouragement by participating in activities such as: talking at the park, playing sports, going to the movies, having dinner, going to the library, etc. This program provides the juvenile an opportunity to spend quality time with a positive adult role model.

Adult volunteer mentors from the community are recruited, screened and trained to provide visitation to juveniles in the Fort Bend County Juvenile Probation Detention Center. The juveniles chosen to receive a mentor are usually those that do not have anyone coming to visit them, are going to be there longer than average, and just need one-to-one visits. This program is designed for mentors to provide support, listen and encourage the juvenile while they are being detained in the detention center.

Confidentiality Requirement

Due to the sensitive nature of our work, selected Fellows must sign a confidentiality agreement and complete privacy training

Our Marine Debris Survey Program is a partnership with National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration to help measure the amount and types of marine debris that wash up on our shoreline.

You will assist staff in conducting this survey by collecting and documenting your findings. Once the survey is complete we will clean up any remaining trash in the area.

Volunteer Role Description:
Volunteers will assist with hands-on warehouse operations that directly support families recovering from disasters, displacement, and housing instability. Tasks may include:

This work helps families transition from crisis back into stable housing.

At Memorial Hermann Cypress Hospital, our unique volunteer program offers you the opportunity to explore new directions, develop skills, make friends, and have fun! Students, professionals, retirees - everyone finds satisfaction in helping others.  We are currently seeking service minded adults to transport our patients, staff, and visitors to and from the hospital parking lots.  This position is very social and supportive.  Drivers often put passengers at ease as they attend an appointment or visit a patient.  We ask that volunteers commit to one shift per week, Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 11:45 am or 11:45 am to 4 pm. Freewheels accepts bike donations on Friday and Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to noon  at our shop at 6020 Jessamine #103, Houston, TX 77081. If you have a question, please email us at info@freewheelshouston.org.

The bike you are not riding holds the key to freedom for a refugee, veteran or young person who needs a way to work or school. Donate your bike to Freewheels and our volunteers will clean and repair it and provide a way for people to get to work or school.

Our greatest need is for adult mountain bikes and hybrids with 26-inch and 700c wheels. We also need youth bikes with 24-inch wheels and 20-inch wheels.

Our refugee and veteran customers rarely ask for road bikes or beach cruisers. We do not accept used helmets, small children’s bikes, scooters or tag-alongs. If it’s not economic for Freewheels to repair a donated used bike, we often reclaim parts and components that can be used on other bikes. We have partnerships with people who will take bikes we don’t plan to repair and deliver them to organizations in Mexico. When we receive a road bike, we may try to sell it and and use the proceeds to pay for parts, supplies, safety equipment and rent.

General Day Center volunteers enjoy socializing with our members with dementia and help us lead activities. They may also help with special events or other specific projects happening in the center. Training on communication and activities will be provided.

We need outgoing volunteers to work at the Day Center Front Desk one or two days a week. Their primary job is to greet families as they pick up their loved ones and walk Day Center members in and out of the Day Center. Training will be provided.

Be the first smiling face as homeless clients come into our Day Center!  We are seeking compassionate and dedicated volunteers to support our homeless clients by coordinating and managing shower schedules, assisting with laundry services, assisting with client check-in, helping to schedule or connect clients with needed services, and/or supporting meal service set-up and clean-up (no food preparation required). This is an ideal opportunity for someone who wants to regularly give back to their community but may have limited time to volunteer, with a total commitment of approximately 1½ hours per week.

We are a foster based Houston area shelter rescue and in dire need of foster homes. We have many puppies and dogs, kittens and cats on a waiting list to get out of the shelter. We do not have a shelter and depend on individuals to provide a foster home to help us save them from the shelter. Once we have a committed foster home, we can save a puppy/dog or kitten/cat from the shelter. To foster you will need to care for the pet in your home and bring to adoptions on some weekends at one of our adoption locations until adopted.

As an Application Advisor, you play a crucial role in helping our students submit outstanding job applications. Using the Application Feedback Form and the guidelines provided, you will review, proofread, and offer detailed suggestions to ensure each application meets the highest standards of professionalism. Volunteers will receive 1-3 applications per session to review, helping clients craft "pristine" applications that set them up for success in their job search.

This volunteer opportunity occurs three times a month, aligning with each JSA class cycle, and is conducted entirely electronically. Applications are sent out on Wednesdays, and reviewed submissions must be emailed back by 8:00 AM the following Wednesday. This one-week turnaround is vital as student training programs operate on a tight schedule.
