Volunteer: FosterFostering a needy pet is a richly rewarding experience. It's also an emotional, often difficult experience that isn't for everyone - but for those that can do it, it's an experience that won't soon be forgotten. Houston Humane Society is always in desperate need of foster families, especially right now. First, let's talk about what kinds of pets may need foster care:
Sick and injured pets - Because HHS is an open admission shelter, meaning we do not turn away any animal, we often take in animals that are too sick to go up for adoption. Some of them need a quiet place to recover as well as some additional care.
Too young! - HHS often takes in animals that are simply too young, or may even still be nursing. Sometimes they just need a couple of weeks, while others may need a few months.
Behavior - Often an animal that has been neglected or may be too timid needs a couple of weeks with a foster to learn that being with people can be a good thing. Sometimes pets at the shelter just need a break, and a foster home can give them a quiet place to de-stress.
We provide the medical care, you provide the loving home. We will work with you on what kinds of animals you can care for and your schedule. https://www.houstonhumane.org/volunteer/foster-application Agency: Houston Humane Society Fostering a needy pet is a richly rewarding experience. Volunteer: Caring Volunteers needed for Hospice Patients in the Channelview Area - IMMEDIATE NEEDVolunteers are needed to spend time with our hospice patients. We at Enhabit (Formally Encompass) are looking for compassionate, patient, kind volunteers to spend time with our patients. They need and want someone to share their final days with and we want people with a nurturing nature to give them that most basic of needs, human contact. You would spend time with the patients talking, listening, playing games or anything the patient would want or possibly need. Our offices are in Clear Lake, Southeast Houston and the Woodlands area but we have patients all over the Greater Houston Area. The training would be done in our Houston office (45 South & Fuqua area) but the opportunity would be in the Channelview Area. Due to the nature of the patients’ conditions each volunteer will be required to go through training to volunteer with our patients. The process to become a volunteer takes a little bit but the reward of giving your time to these patients is beyond measure. You can give these people a final dignity in their final days. Thank you. Volunteer: Social Media Guru for our 2021 Virtual March for Marrow TX 5K Run & WalkAs patients and family members we are so busy taking care of our patients - or ourselves in this period of COVID-19. In order to promote our work on our 2021 Virtual March for Marrow, which will include a Virtual 5K Run and Walk as well as an online raffle, we need a clever and committed Social Media Guru. We have a lot to learn and would love to learn from younger, smarter and more clever young people from the Houston area. In addition, we are trying to go paperless – although we do have a great flier featuring our 2021 Star, Nicholas Smith, who just went through a bone marrow transplant. We are open to advice as to how best to use it. But it seems social media is the best way to go. Our 2021 VIRTUAL March for Marrow 5K Run & Walk will run for 7 days from Saturday, March 27 to Saturday, April 3, 2021. Our schedule for Saturday, 3/27/2021, Sunday, 3/28/2021, and Saturday, 4/3/2021, will run for about 2 hours, 9:00 am to 10:30 or 11:00 am. Monday, 3/29/2021 to Friday, 4/2/2021, will only be 1 hour – perhaps 1 ½ hours. There will be the Kick-Off including sounding the start of the 5k and Patient and Family Walk – complete with selfies. We will have a couple of doctors speak and a couple of patients telling their stories. We hope to attract a couple of high school groups – bands and or a cheerleading squad – all with proper social distancing. On Saturday, April 3, we will hold our Moment of Remembrance and Closing Ceremonies, catch up with our 5K Runners and have them log in their times and announce our Top Fundraisers and our Raffle WINNERS! Agency: Jesse Jones Park Volunteers The Day of Service program is an opportunity for conservation-minded groups of all sizes and types to earn volunteer hours while directly assisting Jones Park in serving our community in the areas of environmental and Texas education. Any group can help, including: scouts, schools, church groups, home-school groups, conservation organizations, companies in need of volunteer hours for their employees, etc. There is no maximum or minimum size group. Children 16 and under are welcome to volunteer as long as a parent or adult leader volunteers alongside them. We will schedule your program on the day that fits your needs. Groups will be assigned a priority project in Jones Park based on their interests, group size, and abilities. A wide range of service projects are needed, including historical building construction, trail maintenance, habitat restoration, and litter collection. No experience is necessary. A park ranger will provide training and guidance. For more information, please contact volunteer coordinator Brent Wilkins at 281-446-8588 or brent.wilkins@pct3.hctx.net.
