Hello!
Thank you for wanting to work with the vulnerable youth of Tony's Place! We are up and running, serving homeless youth seven days a week, and serving around 30 youth each day.
We are having a second volunteer training, so that we can increase our daily staffing and offer more services to the youth. If you would like to take advantage of the opportunity to work with kids who really need and appreciate your support, please sign up for our training on Saturday, November 12, from 9am until 5pm. Volunteers who wish to make a commitment to work directly with the youth on an ongoing basis for a minimum of 6 months and one 3-hour shift every two weeks will be asked to complete the full day of training.
Volunteers who wish to do activities with the youth on a less frequent basis will only be asked to take part in the first half of the training, from 9am until 1pm.
The location is pending, but it will be close to the facility, which is located at 3611 Montrose, and you will be informed of location and parking instructions closer to the actual date.
Volunteer training includes Active Listening, Boundaries and De-escalation, Cultural Competence, and special issues that affect this population of young people.
Our training goal is to give you the knowledge and tools you need to interact positively and helpfully with the youth of Tony's Place.
We will provide you with food and refreshments during training, and the day will end with a visit to the center, a tour of the facility and description of specific volunteer responsibilities.
We are so excited and happy to be up and running and serving these great young people. Please join us!
Background checks are required for all training participants. We will give you instructions for completing that check once you have signed up for this event.
