Who We Are
Freewheels Houston volunteers repair donated bikes to provide reliable transportation for refugees, veterans, and young people from low-income families. Volunteers assist at various skill levels, from cleaning bikes to performing complex repairs, and help distribute bikes and safety equipment directly to recipients.
Our bikes give people a way to get to work and school and stay healthy and connected.
What We Do
The well-equipped Freewheels bike repair shop is open every Friday and Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to noon at 6020 Jessamine in the Gulfton area.
We will fit your assignment to your skill level and interests.
- Bike shop mechanics know how to repair brakes, derailleurs and other bike systems. If that's you, we will put you to work repairing a bike right away.
- Shop volunteers are beginners who want to learn about maintaining a bike. You will start cleaning bikes and undertaking minor repairs. Each time you attend, you will learn more about bikes.
Donate bikes you aren't riding
Freewheels also needs a consistent supply of donated used bikes that our volunteers will clean and repair for distribution. If you have a bike that you aren't riding, please consider donating it to Freewheels. If you are part of an organization seeking service opportunities, we can help you plan a bike donation drive.
