Who We Are

The Men’s Textile Collective Foundation (MTCF) was born in August 2024 from a simple idea: that making things matters, and that men deserve a dedicated, stigma-free space to explore the creative and therapeutic power of the fiber arts. What began as a small local initiative quickly grew in popularity, leading to our official registration as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in January 2026. Our mission is to build a community of fiber enthusiasts by breaking the traditional stigmas surrounding men in textile work, allowing us to introduce creative mental health and wellness tools to those who might otherwise overlook them, including veterans and first responders. While our name highlights our focus on reaching men, we believe that community is built by everyone; we enthusiastically welcome volunteers of all genders and backgrounds to help us facilitate our programs at Hamilton Elementary, Tomball High School, and Montrose Grace Place. We envision a future where creative spaces are inclusive and accessible to all, and where the act of making, whether knitting, crocheting, or sewing, serves as a foundation for personal stability and connection. We aren't just teaching a craft; we are facilitating a cultural shift that prioritizes human connection and mental wellness over perfection.

What We Do

The Men’s Textile Collective Foundation (MTCF) builds community and supports mental wellness by introducing the creative power of the textile arts to those who need it most. We accomplish our mission by facilitating hands-on fiber arts sessions, such as knitting, crochet, and sewing, at local schools like Hamilton Elementary and Tomball High School to provide students with tangible skills and a positive, creative outlet. Our work also extends to supporting LGBTQ youth at Montrose Grace Place, where we use crafting as a bridge to connection and personal stability. By focusing on breaking the stigma that creative making is not for men, we are able to introduce these crafts as effective tools for stress reduction to veterans, first responders, and individuals who might otherwise overlook them. While our primary mission is to reach men, our programs and volunteer teams are open to everyone; we believe that building a stronger community requires a diverse and inclusive group of makers. Through partnerships with local yarn and quilt shops, we ensure that every beginner feels seen, capable, and supported, building a foundation of resilience and connection one stitch at a time.
