Who We Are

The Houston Health Department is a full-service health department that performs many enhanced functions to address health inequities. Our services benefit all Houston residents, but we also take additional steps to support those most in need, such as low-income mothers and children, the elderly, and minority populations.

What We Do

The mission of the Houston Health Department is to work in partnership with the community to promote and protect the health and social well-being of Houstonians and the environment in which they live. This is in part, made possible by the Houston Health Foundation; the non-profit organization that provides a funding stream to support public health projects beyond the normal scope and capacity of City of Houston operations.

The Houston Health Foundation works with donors, partner organizations and volunteers to help bring valuable health services to the children and families of Houston's most under-served communities. Our programming provides oral health care through Project Saving Smiles, vision screening and eyewear through See to Succeed, and access to fresh produce and nutrition education with our Community Gardens program. We also play a key role in ensuring families receive the support services they need to create safe and healthy environments for children to live in through our AIM initiative.
