Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Bayou City Art Festival Memorial Park 2017! Volunteers are essential to the success of our award-winning art festival, and we simply couldn’t do it without you! There are plenty of volunteer roles to fit all interests, and you are welcome to bring a group or volunteer solo! Learn more and sign up on our website for our spring festival in Memorial Park on March 24-26, 2017.

What do you get out of volunteering?

  • A sense of community. Have fun and make new friends!
  • Free admission to the festival.
  • A free volunteer t-shirt, snacks and drinks at Volunteer Headquarters.
  • Love and admiration from our staff, artists and patrons!

Volunteer Opportunities

Artist Relief

Volunteers will be assigned to a specific zone of the festival, where you will provide relief to artists by delivering beverages and snacks. You may also sit in for an artist while they take quick breaks or have lunch. There will be lots of moving around, talking to artists, and answering questions. Larger groups and art lovers are perfect for this position!

Festival Marketplace Booth

Volunteers will be selling festival t-shirts, posters, cups and other merchandise. Some basic training will be given to you at the beginning of your shift. There might be some heavy lifting as you help set up and restock inventory. Customer service and retail experience is a big plus!

Greeters

Volunteers greet visitors and hand out festival maps, direct foot traffic and give directions as patrons enter and the leave the festival, and answer questions. These volunteers are essential for providing a positive experience at the festival, so a “people person” is perfect for this role! This position has direct exposure to sunlight so please remember to bring a hat and sunscreen!

Information Booth

Volunteers will answer questions, hand out maps and programs, and operate the lost-and-found. This is a great role for outgoing folks that love sharing information with others. Familiarity with the festival is important, and even better if you’ve volunteered for the festival in the past!

Patron Art Pick Up

Volunteers will report to the Art Pick Up Location. You will monitor artwork being held after purchase and assist with loading artwork into patrons’ vehicles. This is a great way to see amazing art that happy purchasers are taking home!

Photographer

Volunteers are needed to snap photos of the artists’ booths and festival signage and tents. These photos are used internally within our organization to chronicle participating artists and festival production. Being able to see what we’ve done is incredibly helpful for us as we plan and build on our festivals! Volunteers will be assigned to certain areas of the festival and should plan on using their own smartphone.

Rovers

We will assign Rovers to fill in for missing volunteers, and to relieve other volunteers. This role is important as there are specific volunteer activities that must be fully staffed. You will check in at Volunteer Check-In and we will assign you an activity onsite. This is perfect for a volunteer that can’t make up their mind on an activity, or just likes the excitement of the luck of the draw!

Ticket Taker

Volunteers will take admission tickets from patrons at the entrance gate and pass out festival maps and share festival information. This position has direct exposure to sunlight. There is a tent, but please remember to bring a hat and sunscreen!

Usher

You will lead volunteers from the volunteer tent to the location of their volunteer position. This role is hugely important in ensuring that volunteers are adequately prepared for their shifts and know exactly what their role is. Familiarity with the festival and volunteering is a plus. There is a lot of walking, and this is a great way to see the festival from every direction!

Volunteer Check In/Out

You will sign volunteers in and out for their given activity and shift time at the volunteer tent. You will hand out volunteer t-shirts, badges, snacks & water at the beginning of a volunteer’s shift and collect badges at the end of their shift. This is the first point of contact for our volunteers, so happy, friendly faces are welcome!

Volunteer Relief

Volunteers will be assigned to provide relief to volunteers by delivering beverages, snacks, bug spray and sunscreen. There will be lots of moving around, talking to volunteers and answering questions.
