I need help from a live person!

Reach out to info@volunteerhouston.org for assistance!

What is the difference between a "need" and an "event"?

Events are non-volunteering events that are free and open to the public. Agencies post events to promote attendance and participation at the event. Needs are volunteer opportunities.

Are "hours" and "time tracking" the same thing?

Yes!

Why didn't I get a confirmation email?

Three things could have happened. Each requires action on your part.

  1. Safe list our email address "donotreply@volunteerhouston.org". Here's how.
  2. Check your spam/junk folder.
  3. Make sure your "Data and Communication Setting" is turned ON in your VH Portal profile.

How do I sign up?

It's important to know that VH does not host the volunteer opportunities listed in the VH Portal. We are a connector for volunteers and the thousands of local nonprofits that are constantly recruiting volunteers. When you sign up in the VH Portal you will be able to "respond" to a volunteer need which notifies the agency hosting the volunteer need that you will show up. If you have any questions about that volunteer need, you should direct them to the agency where you plan to volunteer.

Why haven't my hours been approved?

There are 2 types of volunteer hours that are submitted by volunteers for approval:

  1. Individual - these are reviewed by VH staff which may take up to 2 weeks as we wait on the organization contact you listed to respond to our review request.

  2. Agency - these are reviewed by agency managers at the organization where you volunteered. We recommend reaching out directly to the agency to inquire about the status of your hours review.
