The World Affairs Council of Greater Houston is widely respected as a place where citizens, world leaders, policy makers, and scholars come to meet, where ideas are exchanged and actions inspired. Over 7,000 members are currently enrolled, making us one of the largest and most successful public forums in the nation. The Council comprises a diverse network of students, citizens, and community leaders, from all walks of life, all sharing an interest in international affairs and a commitment to education. In addition to our other membership categories, the Council's participants include a Young Professionals (YP) Group, which is made up of motivated individuals, aged 21-40, who are interested in learning about their world. Our YP members meet and discuss issues with international policy-makers, foreign correspondents, local business leaders and open-minded young people. What We Do

The World Affairs Council of Greater Houston's mission is to promote better understanding of the world - the people, politics, economies and cultures - enabling our citizenry to participate more effectively in the global community. We do this by providing more than 200 programs annually to the Greater Houston community, including speakers, educational opportunities for students, and professional development and international travel for teachers. The Council also offers international travel that is enjoyable, affordable, and highly educational. We specialize in small group travel of 15-20 people. The Council is a nonpartisan organization that is committed to free and fair discussion. The ideas and views presented by its featured speakers are their own and are not necessarily held by the Council, its staff, or its affiliates. The Council presents speakers that it has found contribute insightful perspectives on global affairs. The Council encourages its members to conduct additional and varied research to further their understanding of these topics and arrive at their own conclusions.
