Westbury Community Garden

Who We Are

Established in 2010, WCG is a seven acre property in southwest Houston that features 62 100 sq ft allotment gardens that are leased by individuals and groups. The garden is an affiliate of Urban Harvest and hosts Urban Harvest classes in its outdoor learning pavilion. The garden has a fruit orchard, a Trees For Houston tree farm, a Pocket Prairie, rainwater collection system, compost bins and public art. WCG partners with Plant It Forward Farms, leasing 2 acres to Congolese refugee farmers who operate a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program and sell organic produce at their weekend Farm Stand on the garden site. The garden is a place for outdoor learning for nearby schools and scout troops. It is a scout project site and a venue for corporate, church and other volunteer groups who enjoy outdoor community service work.

Westbury Community garden has introduced thousands of adults and children to organic raised bed gardening and has inspired hundreds new gardens. Many friendships have been forged and lives changed as they live the motto, "Growing Community Through Gardening."
