Who We Are

The Center promotes the pursuit of choice, growth, and personal independence for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

We provide all around care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, everything from a job to a bed to sleep in. We have residential, vocational and day services for our clients.

We want to maximize the ability for our clients to live independently.

What We Do

Volunteering at The Center is more than an opportunity for service; it’s an invitation to join a community where you find inspiration in unexpected places. You will receive more than you give and learn a little something along the way.

Whether you’re looking for a one-time experience or an ongoing commitment, there is a place for you at The Center. Volunteers are needed every day of the week and special care is taken to match your unique skillset to where it’s needed most. We also welcome schools, churches and businesses looking to make a difference at The Center.

We have a need for volunteers in the following areas:

  • Volunteer Administrative Support – Providing front desk support, filing, data entry, phones, etc in various campus departments.
  • Volunteer Receptionist Relief – Answer phones and greet clients and visitors at The Cullen Residence Hall.
  • Volunteer Craft Aide – Help oversee our clients making beautiful pieces of artwork at the crafting center, which are then placed for sale in our retail environments.
  • Gingersnaps, Etc.– Support packing, labeling and sealing the amazing Gingersnaps, Chocosnaps, Cheesenaps and Fruit Cake for Gingersnaps, Etc! All proceeds from Gingersnaps benefit The Center! This area is staffed completely with volunteers!

Please complete the volunteer application here and email it to volunteers@thecenterhouston.org. Or call us at 713 525 8484.

Volunteer Orientation is every Wednesday from 11 am - 2 pm.
